Abstract:Continuous copper fibers were fabricated in horizontal lathe by a multi-tooth tool. And the effect of heating temperature on the surface morphology, metallographic microstructure and mechanical properties of continuous copper fiber were studied by using the surface profiler, scanning electron microscope, metalloscope and electrical tensile testing machine. The results show that the continuous copper fiber fabricated by the multi-tooth tool had the coarse surface with microstructure, which disappeared gradually along with the increasing temperature. Meanwhile, the surface with micropore structure was formed at the temperature between 500 degrees C and 700 degrees C. Microstructure changed greatly when the temperature increased, the equiaxed grain with twin structure has been obtained at the temperature ranging from 500 degrees C to 700 degrees C as recrystallization occurred. Tensile strength decreased slowly first, and then greatly when the heating temperature is higher than the recrystallization temperature. In addition, elongation increased steadily with the increasing temperature.
