Abstract:Hierarchical LiFePO4 crystals self-assembled with subunits were successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal method. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) curve indicates the highly crystalline nature of the prepared samples. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images reveal that with increased KOH concentrations, the LiFePO4 products evoluted from microspheres self-assembled with microwires to spindle-like structures self-assembled with micro-needles and eventually to flower-like hierarchical nanostructures self-assembled with nanorods. The crystal growth mechanism could be explained by the synergetic effect of pH value and the surface-adsorbed K+ ions. The OH– anions represent pH value dominate the hierarchical morphology under both low and high KOH concentration, while K+ ions play the major role in synthesizing monodispersed LiFePO4 nanorods under medium KOH concentration. Moreover, charge–discharge curves and CV measurements demonstrated good reversible capacities and stable cycle performances of the LFP/C samples.

Abstract:High-pure and well-crystalline nano-LiFePO_4 was prepared by hydrothermal method using analytically pure FeSO_4,H_3PO_4 and LiOH as the precursors.The results through XRD and SEM analyses show that,with the increase of the reaction temperature from 120℃ to 150℃ and time from 5h to 15h,the synthesized LiFePO_4 particles grow from the irregular congeries of nano-crystals to the rectangular slAbs with thickness of about 200nm and side-length of(about) 800nm.The intermediate product Li_3PO_4 is first synthesized during the reaction,then it reacts with Fe~(2+) to form the high-pure LiFePO_4.A reversible capacity of 163mA·h·g~(-1) at 0.05C or 144mA·h·g~(-1) at(0.5C) has been obtained after the carbon coated with LiFePO_4 is prepared by decomposing polypropylene with the LiFePO_4 powders at 550℃.

Abstract:Various LiFePO4 microstructures were synthesized via hydrothermal or solvothermal routes using different additives. In an aqueous solution, LiFePO4 spindles whose length was about 2 microm were obtained with the assistance of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP). As PVP and P2O7(4-) added in water, ellipsoidal LiFePO4 particles which composed of nanoparticles around 100 nm in diameter were obtained. If the additive was cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), sheet-like LiFePO4 crystals with the width of 100 nm were prepared. In the mixed solvents of water together with ethanol or acetylacetone, when adding CTAB or polyethylene glycol (20000), LiFePO4 plates or nanoparticles were obtained. The ellipsoidal LiFePO4 had the best electrochemical properties among all these products. It is found that the annealed samples were significantly better than the corresponding unannealed ones. Take the ellipsoidal LiFePO4 for example, the initial discharge capacity of annealed (161 mAh/g) was much higher than the unannealed ones (85 mAh/g) at 0.1 C and the former cell still could deliver a capacity of 143 mAh/g after 30 cycles.

Abstract:A solvothermal process was used to synthesize LiFePO4 nanomaterials for lithium ion batteries. Reaction parameters such as reaction temperature and residence time were explored to obtain the optimal LiFePO4 sample. A three-stage reaction mechanism is proposed to better understand the solvothermal synthesis process. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform IR spectroscopy were used to investigate the prepared samples under different conditions. The LiFePO4 formation reaction occurred at a temperature as low as 89 degrees C. Defect analysis results showed that after 4 h of solvothermal treatment the concentration of lithium vacancy and Li-Fe antisite defects was too low to be detected. The charge discharge data of the obtained LiFePO4 showed that the carbon-coated LiFePO4 samples prepared at 180 degrees C after 4 h of solvothermal treatment had a discharge capacity of 160.6 mA h g(-1) at a discharge rate of 0.1C and 129.6 mA h g(-1) at 10C.

Abstract:Using high resolution transmission electron microscopy with image simulation and Fourier analysis, the Li1-xFePO4 (x<0.01), Li1-x FePO4 (x approximate to 0.5), and FePO4 particles, prepared by charging or discharging the 053048 electrochemical cells (thickness: 5 mm, width: 30 mm, height: 48 mm) and dismantled inside an Ar-filled dry box, were investigated. The high resolution images reveal: (1) the solid solution of Li1-xFePO4 (x<0.01) contains some missing Li ions leading PO4 group distorted around M1 tunnel of the unit cell; (2) the texture of the particles of Li1-xFePO4 (x approximate to 0.5) has homogeneously distributed compositional domains of LiFePO4 and FePO4 resulting from spinodal decomposition which promote Li ion easily getting into the particle due to uphill diffusion, (3) the particles of FePO4 formed in charging have heavily distorted lattice and contain some isolated LiFePO4, (4) interface between LiFePO4 and FePO4 and between amorphous and crystal region provides the lattice distortion of small polarons. Abstract:LiFePO4 nanoflakes with a lateral size of ca. 100 nm have been prepared by calcining the samples synthesized via a conventional hydrothermal method assisted with triblocks copolymer P123. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were employed to investigate the crystal structure and morphology of the obtained samples. The results show that the hydrothermally synthesized LiFePO4 samples in the presence of P123 are composed of self-assembled flakes with a larger lateral size over 400 nm by the primary nanoflakes. After calcinations at high temperature in flowing N-2, the self-assembled LiFePO4 flakes decompose to nanoflakes with well dispersion. Moreover, due to the nanoscale in size and carbon film encapsulation, the as-prepared LiFePO4 nanoflakes exhibit excellent performance as cathode applied in Li-ions battery.

Abstract:Despite the great achievement in understanding the materials properties of LiFePO4, the surface phase composition of nanosized LiFePO4 has been almost ignored. The present study reports the synthesis of nanosized core-shell LiFePO4 with size of about 50 nm by one step solvothermal route using Polyethylene glycol 600 as solvent. The structural characterization of the surface of nanosized core-shell LiFePO4 particles has been investigated using soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The nanosized LiFePO4 is well-covered by an amorphous LiFeP2O7 layer containing trace carbon. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation is used to illustrate the origin of amorphous LiFeP2O7 layer. The nanosized core-shell LiFePO4 exhibits excellent charge transfer kinetics and charge/discharge performance. These new investigations shed new insight into the surface phase composition of nano-particles. The synthesis of the nanosized core-shell LiFePO4 paves an effective way to develop cathode materials with high rate capabilities for use in Li-ion batteries.

Abstract:The single-crystal LiFePO4was synthesized by Guilin hydrothermal method, and the single crystal of lithium iron phosphate was prepared.The single crystal has a six-prism structure or a crystal with a round shape, isometric appearance.XRD patterns of the single-crystal LiFePO4was obtained by the experiment.In 10°to 40°strong within the scope of the main peak,compared with nm level lithium iron phosphate,mm leve crystal has one more(020)surface.It is indicate that in the later period of crystal growth, mainly controlled by(020)surface, the main six prismatic properties are ending at (010),(200),(101)surfaces of three,these advantages face this is expected to be in the exchange of electrochemistry and surface properties play an important role.Based on the analysis of LiFePO4crystal structure,the geometrical environment of lithium ion diffusion in lithium iron phosphate was analyzed. The lithium ion is diffused in the direction of(010),so it is possible to propose the design synthesis to reduce the axis of the b axis.To expand the 2-dimensional flaky structure of the ac direction of LiFePO 4. It is expected to increase the diffusion rate of lithium ions, thus improving the conductivity, multiplier performance and low temperature performance of LiFePO 4materials.Selected by the single crystal of LiFePO4in ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum wavelength range, known LiFePO4large absorption in the uv area.There is a wide band in the visible area,with a smaller absorption value,and the majority of the light passes through,which is why the color of LiFePO 4single crystal is not deep.The hydrothermal growth of LiFePO4crystals has a good permeability.The color center caused by the point defect of the synthesized LiFePO4crystal is absorbed by the light of the near infrared short-wave part 980-1700 nm wavelength, and the near-infrared long wave 1750-3000 nm light is all filtered through.The high symmetry absorption and transmission of LiFePO 4crystals 1000-3000 nm wavelength will make a breakthrough in the application of near-infrared band window devices.

Abstract:Abstract LiFePO4 is a cathode material for lithium-ion batteries of excellent structural stability and low price. Nanoscale LiFePO4 usually possess satisfactory electrochemical performance. In this study, LiFePO4 powder with an average particle size of 68-85 nm was prepared by the supercritical solvothermal synthesis at 340-400 °C. There were a few impurities in the sample obtained at 340 °C. The growth of nanocrystal dominated the particle size of the LiFePO4 sample, so the growth mechanism was investigated. The crystallization kinetic fitting results indicated that the growth of LiFePO4 nanocrystal was controlled by the surface reaction, which was different from that of hydrothermal synthesis. Furthermore, the experiment data fitted well with the second-order multi-nucleus-controlled growth kinetics. The initial discharge capacity of the sample obtained at 400 °C was 142.73 mAh·g–1 at 0.1 C, and the capacity retention rate was 68.27% at 5 C. The impurities Li3Fe2(PO4)3 and Fe3(PO4)2 caused the polarization of the electrode, which in turn led to severe capacity degradation of the sample obtained at 340 °C at a high charge/discharge rate. This study attempted to clarify the growth mechanism of LiFePO4 nanocrystal in supercritical ethanol, which provided theoretical guidance for the optimization of nano LiFePO4 preparation parameters.

Abstract:Anion species are proved to have a significant influence on orientation, agglomeration and defect control of crystal growth for LiMn0.9Fe0.1PO4 nano-particles prepared by solvothermal synthesis. SO42− is helpful for high dispersity, while Cl− benefits accurate molar ratio control of transition metals in LiMn0.9Fe0.1PO4. Various LiMn0.9Fe0.1PO4 particles, being agglomerative spindles or mono-dispersed uniform nano-flakes, can be obtained by just tuning [Cl−]:[SO42−] ratio, and present dramatically different electrochemical performances. Though the as-prepared samples possess similar reversible capacities around 130 mAh g−1 at low C-rate, they show very different rate performances depending on morphology of the particles.

Abstract:Morphology-controlled Fe3O4/carbon nanocomposites were synthesized by a solvothermal reaction followed by calcination under a nitrogen atmosphere. Flower-like structures, dispersed nanoflakes and hollow,microspheres could be readily obtained by adjusting the concentrations of the reactants. Based on the time-dependent structure evolution, a possible mechanism for the formation of the different morphologies under various conditions was discussed. The lithium storage properties of the different Fe3O4/carbon composites were compared. The flower-like sample shows the best electrochemical performance with the highest specific capacity of 227 mAh/g at a current rate of 5 C while hollow microspheres and dispersed nanoflakes have specific capacities of only 45 and 10 mAh/g, respectively.

Abstract:Spherical-like LiFePO4 was synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis method using Phenanthroline as a complexing-agent to avoid the Fe(II) ions from oxidation and control the growth of the crystal. Structural, electron valence state, morphology and particle size were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), Mössbauer spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and laser particle sizer. Charge–discharge cycling performances were used to characterize its electrochemical properties. The sample possesses uniformly distributed spherical-like particles with an average size of 0.5–1μm. Test shows that the reversible capacity of spherical-like LiFePO4 is about 140mAhg−1 at 0.1C. The capacity fading is neglectable.

Abstract:The effects of citric acid (CA) and ammonium (NH4+) ions on the structural and morphological transformations of olivine LiFePO4 upon hydrothermal treatment are systematically investigated, as a function of reaction time, by using a combination of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), magic-angle-spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), and Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy (FTIR). In the presence of both CA and NH4+ ions, the structures evolve from amorphous precursors to crystalline (NH4)FePO4 center dot H2O and finally LiFePO4. The initial olivine particles adopt an egglike shape and appear to form from the fusing of (NH4)FePO4 center dot H2O plates. This metastable morphology evolves to form a mixture of cubic and rhombic particles. These particles are then etched, resulting in hollow structures and then ultimately barrel-like particles, after over 120 h of hydrothermal reaction at 180 degrees C. The final morphology is close to the equilibrium structure proposed by Islam et al. [Fisher, C. A. J.; Islam, M. S. J. Mater. Chem. 2008, 18, 1209]. The presence of NH4+ ions (as detected by FTIR) adsorbed on the surfaces of these particles, seems to slow growth along certain directions, resulting in cubic/rhombic-shaped particles. The formation of hollow particles is ascribed to the opposing effects of etching (from CA) and surface protection (from NH4+). The electrochemical performances vary significantly with particle shape. The hollow and roughened spindle-like particles (formed in the absence of NH4+ ions) exhibit superior electrochemical properties, compared to the other particles, because of their higher specific surface areas and shorter Li+ ion diffusion lengths. The facile synthesis of olivine LiFePO4 particles with very different morphologies provides an interesting platform for further fundamental investigation into the shape-dependent electrochemical performance and electrochemical lithium intercalation and deintercalation mechanisms of olivine LiFePO4.

Abstract:LiFePO4 is a promising candidate for the use as cathode material in lithium-ion batteries, especially the batteries for hybrid electric vehicles or pure electric vehicles. In this paper, a facile hydrothermal process to obtain the pure and well-crystallized LiFePO4 nanorods is presented. The phase purity of the powder and valence state of Fe ions were confirmed by high-resolution X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer measurements respectively. Transmission electron microscopy observation revealed uniform rod like shape and a preferred growth along b axis direction for the prepared powder. Electrochemical test showed a good capacity and a stable cycling performance of the nanorods, suggesting a potential for further investigation.

Abstract:Lithium iron phosphate(LiFePO4) nanorods were synthesized by a two-step method of hydrothermal combined with solid-state reaction.The crystal structure,morphology and performance were characterized by XRD,SEM,TEM and galvanostatic charge-discharge analyses.Fe3(PO4)2·H2O precursor was synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method,then olivine phase pure LiFePO4 nanorods were obtained by a solid-state method.The product had fine high-rate performance,when charged-discharged in 2.5～4.2 V,its specific discharge capacity was 125 mAh/g and 104 mAh/g at 1.0 C and 5.0 C,respectively.

The cathode performance was evaluated using cylindrical battery. Cycle at C/10, samples sintered at 850degreesC with specific surface area of 188.5M(2) /g deliver capacity of 157.5mAh/g and cycle dozens of times without obvious capacity fade.

Abstract:In this work, LiFePO4 microspheres with an enhanced tap density were assembled from nanoplates via solvothermal treatment with TiN nanoparticles as a conductive connector. By altering the amount of introduced TiN nanoparticles, the morphology of the as-prepared LiFePO4 can be tailored. It is demonstrated that TiN nanoparticles favor crystal growth along the b axis by breaking the surfactant blocking barrier, which has a significant effect upon the assembly of LiFePO4 nanoplates. Enhanced electronic and ionic conductivity of a LiFePO4 electrode is confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and linear voltage scanning methods, which are beneficial to the battery performance.

Abstract:Microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis was used to grow LiMnPO$_4$ micro- and nanocrystals from acetate precursors. By appropriate adjustment of the precursor concentration and the pH-value of the reactant, the product composition and purity along with the crystal size can be manipulated, resulting in particle-dimensions from around 10 mm down to a few 100 nm. Prisms and plates with hexagonal basal face as well as cuboid and rod-like particles were produced. The effects on the crystal morphology as well as on the materials texture and agglomeration tendency are discussed and a comprehensive agglomeration phase diagram is constructed.

Abstract:Through soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy, hard X-ray Raman scattering, and theoretical simulations, we provide the most in-depth and systematic study of the phase transformation and (de)lithiation effect on electronic structure in Li(x)FePO(4) nanoparticles and single crystals. Soft X-ray reveals directly the valence states of Fe 3d electrons in the vicinity of Fermi level, which is sensitive to the local lattice distortion, but more importantly offers detailed information on the evolution of electronic states at different electrochemical stages. The soft X-ray spectra of Li(x)FePO(4) nanoparticles evolve vividly with the (de)lithiation level. The spectra fingerprint the (de)lithiation process with rich information on Li distribution, valency, spin states, and crystal field. The high-resolution spectra reveal a subtle but critical deviation from two-phase transformation in our electrochemically prepared samples. In addition, we performed both first-principles calculations and multiplet simulations of the spectra and quantitatively determined the 3d valence states that are completely redistributed through (de)lithiation. This electronic reconfiguration was further verified by the polarization-dependent spectra collected on LiFePO(4) single crystals, especially along the lithium diffusion direction. The evolution of the 3d states is overall consistent with the local lattice distortion and provides a fundamental picture of the (de)lithiation effects on electronic structure in the Li(x)FePO(4) system.
