Abstract:By slight modification of the data of the Sierpinski gasket, keeping the open set condition fulfilled, we obtain self-similar sets with very dense parts, similar to fractals in nature and in random models. This is caused by a complicated structure of the open set and is revealed only under magnification. Thus the family of self-similar sets with separation condition is much richer and has higher modelling potential than usually expected. An interactive computer search for such examples and new properties for their classification are discussed.

Abstract:The authors show that the self-similar set for a finite family of contractive similitudes (similaxities, i.e., \f(i)(x) - f(i)(y)\ = a(i)\x - y\, x,y is an element of R-N, where 0 < ai < 1) is uniformly perfect except the case that it is a singleton. As a corollary, it is proved that this self-similar set has positive Hausdorff dimension provided that it is not a singleton. And a lower bound of the upper box dimension of the uniformly perfect sets is given: Meanwhile the uniformly perfect set with Hausdorff measure zero in its Hausdorff dimension is given.

Abstract:We construct covering maps from infinite blowups of the n-dimensional Sierpinski gasket SG(n) to certain compact fractafolds based on SG(n). These maps are fractal analogs of the usual covering maps from the line to the circle. The construction extends work of the second author in the case n = 2, but a different method of proof is needed, which amounts to solving a Sudoku-type puzzle. We can use the covering maps to define the notion of periodic function on the blowups. We give a characterization of these periodic functions and describe the analog of Fourier series expansions. We study covering maps onto quotient fractalfolds. Finally, we show that such covering maps fail to exist for many other highly symmetric fractals.

Abstract:In this paper, we firstly define a decreasing sequence {Pn(S)} by the the generation of the Sierpinski gasket where each Pn(S) can be obtained in finite steps. Then we prove that the Hausdorff measure Hs(S) of the Sierpinski gasket S can be approximated by {Pn(S)} with Pn(S)/1+1/2n−3)8≤Hs(S)≤Pn(S). An algorithm is presented to get Pn(S) for n≤5. As an application, we obtain the best lower bound of Hs(S) till now: Hs(S)≥0.5631.

Abstract:The Sierpinski gasket K has three line segments constituting a regular triangle as its border. This paper studies what will happen if one of them, which is called the bottom line and is denoted by I , is removed from K . At a glance, "the Sierpinski gasket minus the bottom line" has a structure of a tree of Sierpinski gaskets. This observation leads us to the results showing that the boundary of is not the line segment I but a Cantor set from viewpoints of geometry and analysis. As a by-product, we have an explicit expression of the jump kernel of the trace of the Brownian motion of K on the bottom line I .

In this paper, using spectral decimation, we prove that the conjecture holds on the Sierpinski gasket, i.e., every eigenfunction of the second-smallest eigenvalue of the Neumann Laplacian (introduced by J. Abstract:In a previous work joint with Dai and Luo, we show that a connected generalized Sierpiński carpet (or shortly a GSC) has cut points if and only if the associated \(n\)-th Hata graph has a long tail for all \(n\ge 2\). In this paper, we extend the above result by showing that it suffices to check a finite number of those graphs to reach a conclusion. This criterion provides a truly "algorithmic" solution to the cut point problem of connected GSCs. We also construct for each \(m\ge 1\) a connected GSC with exactly \(m\) cut points and demonstrate that when \(m\ge 2\), such a GSC must be of the so-called non-fragile type.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets in R-d. One of the fundamental results by Falconer and Marsh [On the Lipschitz equivalence of Cantor sets, Mathematika, 39 (1992), 223-233] establishes conditions for Lipschitz equivalence based on the algebraic properties of the contraction ratios of the self-similar sets. In this paper we extend the study by examining deeper such connections.A key ingredient of our study is the introduction of a new equivalent relation between two dust-like self-similar sets called a matchable condition. Thanks to a certain measure-preserving property of bi-Lipschitz maps between dust-like self-similar sets, we show that the matchable condition is a necessary condition for Lipschitz equivalence.Using the matchable condition we prove several conditions on the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets based on the algebraic properties of the contraction ratios, which include a complete characterization of Lipschitz equivalence when the multiplication groups generated by the contraction ratios have full rank. We also completely characterize the Lipschitz equivalence of dust-like self-similar sets with two branches (i.e., they are generated by IFS with two contractive similarities). Some other results are also presented, including a complete characterization of Lipschitz equivalence when one of the self-similar sets has uniform contraction ratio.

Abstract:We realize that a Sierpiński arrowhead curve (SAC) fills a Sierpiński gasket (SG) in the same manner as a Peano curve fills a square. Namely, in the limit of an infinite number of iterations, the fractal SAC remains self-avoiding, such that SAC⊂SG. Therefore, SAC differs from SG in the same sense as the self-avoiding Peano curve PC⊂0,12 differs from the square. In particular, the SG has three-line segments constituting a regular triangle as its border, whereas the border of SAC has the structure of a totally disconnected fat Cantor set. Thus, in contrast to the SG, which has loops at all scales, the SAC is loopless. Consequently, although both patterns have the same similarity dimension D=ln⁡3/ln⁡2, their connectivity dimensions are different. Specifically, the connectivity dimension of the self-avoiding SAC is equal to its topological dimension dlSAC=d=1, whereas the connectivity dimension of the SG is equal to its similarity dimension, that is, dlSG=D. Therefore, the dynamic properties of SG and SAC are also different. Some other noteworthy features of the Sierpiński triangle are also highlighted.
