Abstract:A suggested approximate expression for lacunarity is proposed. Some numerical investigations show that the old expression fails in describing the homogeneity of elimination for some Sierpinski carpets.

Abstract:In a previous work joint with Dai and Luo, we show that a connected generalized Sierpiński carpet (or shortly a GSC) has cut points if and only if the associated $n$-th Hata graph has a long tail for all $n\ge 2$. In this paper, we extend the above result by showing that it suffices to check a finite number of those graphs to reach a conclusion. This criterion provides a truly "algorithmic" solution to the cut point problem of connected GSCs. We also construct for each $m\ge 1$ a connected GSC with exactly $m$ cut points and demonstrate that when $m\ge 2$, such a GSC must be of the so-called non-fragile type.

Abstract:In this paper, the main focus is on the Sierpinski carpet Julia sets of the rational maps with non-recurrent critical points. We study the uniform quasicircle property of the peripheral circles, the relatively separated property of the peripheral circles and the locally porous property of these carpets. We also establish some quasisymmetric rigidities of these carpets, which generalizes the main results of Bonk-Lyubich-Merenkov to the postcritically infinite case. In the end we give a strategy to construct a class of postcritically infinite rational maps whose Julia sets are quasisymetrically equivalent to some round carpets.

Abstract:We construct certain metrics on the Sierpinski carpet via a class of self-similar weight functions. Using these metrics and by applying known results, we obtain the two-sided sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimates of time change of the standard diffusion on the Sierpinski carpet with respect to self-similar measures. This proves a conjecture by Kigami.

Abstract:In this paper, we firstly define a decreasing sequence {Pn(S)} by the the generation of the Sierpinski gasket where each Pn(S) can be obtained in finite steps. Then we prove that the Hausdorff measure Hs(S) of the Sierpinski gasket S can be approximated by {Pn(S)} with Pn(S)/1+1/2n−3)8≤Hs(S)≤Pn(S). An algorithm is presented to get Pn(S) for n≤5. As an application, we obtain the best lower bound of Hs(S) till now: Hs(S)≥0.5631.

Abstract:Pseudo-splines of type I were introduced in [I. Daubechies, B. Han, A. Ron, Z. Shen, Framelets: MRA-based constructions of wavelet frames, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 14 (2003) 1–46] and [Selenick, Smooth wavelet tight frames with zero moments, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 10 (2000) 163–181] and type II were introduced in [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104]. Both types of pseudo-splines provide a rich family of refinable functions with B-splines, interpolatory refinable functions and refinable functions with orthonormal shifts as special examples. In [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104], Dong and Shen gave a regularity analysis of pseudo-splines of both types. The key to regularity analysis is Proposition 3.2 in [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104], which also appeared in [A. Cohen, J.P. Conze, Régularité des bases d'ondelettes et mesures ergodiques, Rev. Mat. Iberoamericana 8 (1992) 351–365] and [I. Daubechies, Ten Lectures on Wavelets, CBMS-NSF Series in Applied Mathematics, SIAM, Philadelphia, 1992] for the case l=N−1. In this note, we will give a new insight into this proposition.

Abstract:We construct symmetric self-similar Dirichlet forms on unconstrained Sierpinski carpets, which are natural extension of planar Sierpinski carpets by allowing the small cells to live off the 1/ k grids. The intersection of two cells can be a line segment of irrational length, and the non-diagonal assumption is dropped in this recurrent setting.

Abstract:In 2005, Liu et al. calculated the dimensionality of the intersection of Sierpinski carpet and a straight line with rational slope in the sense of Lebesgue measure.Sierpinski carpet is a self-similar set in two-dimensional planes obtained by an iterative function system, so each layer has the same structure. While the Sierpinski carpet set with Moran structure is the limit set obtained by the action of two iterative function systems in the two-dimensional plane, which we denote as ~$F_{\sigma}$~. And the structure of each layer may be different, controlled by 0,1 sequence ~$\sigma$~ and controlled by the set. In this paper, the upper and lower box dimensions of the set ~$F_{\sigma}$~ and the straight line ~$L_{a}$~ with rational slope are calculated, where ~$a$~ is the intercept of the straight line. In addition, we consider some related problem. The main difficulty in the research is that the structure of each layer of the set ~$F_{\sigma}$~ may be different, so the structure of each layer needs to be considered with the help of the sequence ~$\sigma$~ in the calculation process.

Abstract:Generalised Sierpinski carpets are planar sets that generalise the well-known Sierpinski carpet and are defined by means of sequences of patterns. We study the structure of the sets at the kth iteration in the construction of the generalised carpet, for k greater than or equal to 1. Subsequently, we show that certain families of patterns provide total disconnectedness of the resulting generalised carpets. Moreover, analogous results hold even in a more general setting. Finally, we apply the obtained results in order to give an example of a totally disconnected generalised carpet with box-counting dimension 2.

Abstract:The conductivity exponents in two dimensions for some Sierpinski carpets made of conductive paper are measured. The results show that the conductivity scaling behavior is highly dependent on symmetry for continuous fractal models. Compared with Sheng and Tao's theoretical calculation for elastic scaling behavior of a continuous Sierpinski carpet, the conductivity exponent is significantly less than the elasticity exponent. It might also show that the conductivity and elasticity belong to two different universality classes.

Abstract:We prove the existence of a strongly local, regular, self-similar Dirichlet form with a sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimate on an unconstrained Sierpinski carpet in $\mathbb{R}^3$. In the setting under consideration, the walk dimension $d_W$ and the Hausdorff dimension $d_H$ always satisfy the inequality that $d_H>d_W$.

Abstract:We construct and investigate $(1, p)$-Sobolev space, $p$-energy, and the corresponding $p$-energy measures on the planar Sierpiński carpet for all $p \in (1, \infty)$. Our method is based on the idea of Kusuoka and Zhou [Probab. Theory Related Fields $\textbf{93}$ (1992), no. 2, 169--196], where Brownian motion (the case $p = 2$) on self-similar sets including the planar Sierpiński carpet were constructed. Similar to this earlier work, we use a sequence of discrete graph approximations and the corresponding discrete $p$-energies to define the Sobolev space and $p$-energies. However, we need a new approach to ensure that our $(1, p)$-Sobolev space has a dense set of continuous functions when $p$ is less than the Ahlfors regular conformal dimension. The new ingredients are the use of Loewner type estimates on combinatorial modulus to obtain Poincaré inequality and elliptic Harnack inequality on a sequence of approximating graphs. An important feature of our Sobolev space is the self-similarity of our $p$-energy, which allows us to define corresponding $p$-energy measures on the planar Sierpiński carpet. We show that our Sobolev space can also be viewed as a Korevaar-Schoen type space. We apply our results to the attainment problem for Ahlfors regular conformal dimension of the Sierpiński carpet. In particular, we show that if the Ahlfors regular conformal dimension, say $\dim_{\mathrm{ARC}}$, is attained, then any optimal measure which attains $\dim_{\mathrm{ARC}}$ should be comparable with the $\dim_{\mathrm{ARC}}$-energy measure of some function in our $(1, \dim_{\mathrm{ARC}})$-Sobolev space up to a multiplicative constant. In this case, we also prove that the Newton-Sobolev space corresponding to any optimal measure and metric can be identified as our self-similar $(1, \dim_{\mathrm{ARC}})$-Sobolev space.

Abstract:We prove the existence of rational maps whose Julia sets are Sierpiński carpets having positive area. Such rational maps can be constructed such that they either contain a Cremer fixed point, a Siegel disk or are infinitely renormalizable. We also construct some Sierpiński carpet Julia sets with zero area but with Hausdorff dimension two. Moreover, for any given number $s\in(1,2)$, we prove the existence of Sierpiński carpet Julia sets having Hausdorff dimension exactly $s$.

In this paper, using spectral decimation, we prove that the conjecture holds on the Sierpinski gasket, i.e., every eigenfunction of the second-smallest eigenvalue of the Neumann Laplacian (introduced by J.
