Abstract:We prove that the critical probability for the Sierpinski carpet lattice in two dimensions is uniquely determined. The transition is sharp. This extends the Kumagai's result to the original Sierpinski carpet lattice.

Abstract:We consider oriented bond or site percolation on ℤ d +. In the case of bond percolation we denote by P p the probability measure on configurations of open and closed bonds which makes all bonds of ℤ d + independent, and for which P p {e is open} = 1 −P p e {is closed} = p for each fixed edge e of ℤ d +. We take X(e) = 1 (0) if e is open (respectively, closed). We say that ρ-percolation occurs for some given 0 < ρ≤ 1, if there exists an oriented infinite path v0 = 0, v1, v2, …, starting at the origin, such that lim inf n →∞ (1/n) ∑ i=1 n X(e i ) ≥ρ, where e i is the edge {v i−1 , v i }. [MZ92] showed that there exists a critical probability p c = p c (ρ, d) = p c (ρ, d, bond) such that there is a.s. no ρ-percolation for p < p c and that P p {ρ-percolation occurs} > 0 for p > p c . Here we find lim d →∞d 1/ρ p c (ρd, bond) = D 1 , say. We also find the limit for the analogous quantity for site percolation, that is D2 = lim d →∞d1/ρp c (ρ, d, site). It turns out that for ρ < 1, D 1 < D 2 , and neither of these limits equals the analogous limit for the regular d-ary trees.

Abstract:The probability of simultaneous occurence of at least k spanning clusters has been studied by Monte Carlo simulations on the 2D square lattice at the bond percolation threshold Pc=1/2. The calculated probabilities for free boundary conditions and periodic boundary conditions are in a very good coincidence with the exact formulae developed recently by Cardy.

Abstract:We construct certain metrics on the Sierpinski carpet via a class of self-similar weight functions. Using these metrics and by applying known results, we obtain the two-sided sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimates of time change of the standard diffusion on the Sierpinski carpet with respect to self-similar measures. This proves a conjecture by Kigami.

Abstract:Recent progress in the design and fabrication of artificial two-dimensional (2D) materials paves the way for the experimental realization of electron systems moving on complex geometries, such as plane fractals. In this work, we calculate the quantum conductance of a 2D electron gas roaming on a Sierpinski carpet (SC), i.e., a plane fractal with Hausdorff dimension intermediate between 1 and 2. We find that the fluctuations of the quantum conductance are a function of energy with a fractal graph, whose dimension can be chosen by changing the geometry of the SC. This behavior is independent of the underlying lattice geometry.

Abstract:The scaling limit of crossing probabilities is believed to satisfy a conformal mapping formula, called Cardy's formula, in two-dimensional percolation at the criticality. The formula has been confirmed to hold for site percolation on the equilateral triangular lattice. In this paper, we show that Cardy's formula could not hold for some two-dimensional triangular and square-type lattices, in particular for some periodic 2D graphs.

Abstract:We prove the uniqueness of self-similar $D_4$-symmetric resistance forms on unconstrained Sierpinski carpets ($\mathcal{USC}$'s). Moreover, on a sequence of $\mathcal{USC}$'s $K_n, n\geq 1$ converging in Hausdorff metric, we show that the associated diffusion processes converge in distribution if and only if the geodesic metrics on $K_n, n\geq 1$ are equicontinuous with respect to the Euclidean metric.

Abstract:We study the random walk on dynamical percolation of $\mathbb{Z}^d$ (resp., the two-dimensional triangular lattice $\mathcal{T}$), where each edge (resp., each site) can be either open or closed, refreshing its status at rate $\mu\in (0,1/e]$. The random walk moves along open edges in $\mathbb{Z}^d$ (resp., open sites in $\mathcal{T}$) at rate $1$. For the critical regime $p=p_c$, we prove the following two results: on $\mathcal{T}$, the mean squared displacement of the random walk from $0$ to $t$ is at most $O(t\mu^{5/132-\epsilon})$ for any $\epsilon>0$; on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ with $d\geq 11$, the corresponding upper bound for the mean squared displacement is $O(t \mu^{1/2}\log(1/\mu))$. For the supercritical regime $p>p_c$, we prove that the mean squared displacement on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ is at least $ct$ for some $c=c(d)>0$ that does not depend on $\mu$.

Abstract:In this work, we study the random metric for the critical long-range percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^d$. A recent work by Bäumler [3] implies the subsequential scaling limit, and our main contribution is to prove that the subsequential limit is uniquely characterized by a natural list of axioms. Our proof method is hugely inspired by recent works of Gwynne and Miller [42], and Ding and Gwynne [25] on the uniqueness of Liouville quantum gravity metrics.

Surface Critical Phenomena in Three-Dimensional Percolation

Abstract:Using Monte Carlo methods and finite-size scaling, we investigate surface critical phenomena in the bond-percolation model on the simple-cubic lattice with two open surfaces in one direction. We decompose the whole lattice into percolation clusters and sample the surface and bulk dimensionless ratios Q1 and Qb, defined on the basis of the moments of the cluster-size distribution. These ratios are used to determine critical points. At the bulk percolation threshold pbc, we determine the surface bond-occupation probability at the special transition as p(s)1c = 0.418 17(2), and further obtain the corresponding surface thermal and magnetic exponents as y(s)t1 = 0.5387(2) and y(s)h1 = 1.8014(6), respectively. Next, from the pair correlation function on the surfaces, we determine y(o)h1 = 1.0246(4) and y(e)h1 = 1.25(6) for the ordinary and the extraordinary transition, respectively, of which the former is consistent with the existing result y(o)h1 = 1.024(4). We also numerically derive the line of surface phase transitions occurring at pb < pbc, and determine the pertinent asymptotic values of the universal ratios Q1 and Qb.

Abstract:We prove Schramm's locality conjecture for Bernoulli bond percolation on transitive graphs: If $(G_n)_{n\geq 1}$ is a sequence of infinite vertex-transitive graphs converging locally to a vertex-transitive graph $G$ and $p_c(G_n) \neq 1$ for every $n \geq 1$ then $\lim_{n\to\infty} p_c(G_n)=p_c(G)$. Equivalently, the critical probability $p_c$ defines a continuous function on the space $\mathcal{G}^*$ of infinite vertex-transitive graphs that are not one-dimensional. As a corollary of the proof, we obtain a new proof that $p_c(G)<1$ for every infinite vertex-transitive graph that is not one-dimensional.

An upper bound on geodesic length in 2D critical first-passage percolation

Abstract:We consider i.i.d. first-passage percolation (FPP) on the two-dimensional square lattice, in the critical case where edge-weights take the value zero with probability $1/2$. Critical FPP is unique in that the Euclidean lengths of geodesics are superlinear, rather than linear, in the distance between their endpoints. This fact was speculated by Kesten in 1986 but not confirmed until 2019 by Damron and Tang, who showed a lower bound on geodesic length that is polynomial with degree strictly greater than $1$. In this paper we establish the first non-trivial upper bound. Namely, we prove that for a large class of critical edge-weight distributions, the shortest geodesic from the origin to a box of radius $R$ uses at most $R^{2+\epsilon}\pi_3(R)$ edges with high probability, for any $\epsilon > 0$. Here $\pi_3(R)$ is the polychromatic 3-arm probability from classical Bernoulli percolation; upon inserting its conjectural asymptotic, our bound converts to $R^{4/3 + \epsilon}$. In any case, it is known that $\pi_3(R) \lesssim R^{-\delta}$ for some $\delta > 0$, and so our bound gives an exponent strictly less than $2$. In the special case of Bernoulli($1/2$) edge-weights, we replace the additional factor of $R^\epsilon$ with a constant and give an expectation bound.

In this paper, we determine thresholds pc for random-site percolation in triangular and honeycomb lattices for all available neighborhoods containing sites from the sixth coordination zone. The results obtained (together with the percolation thresholds gathered from the literature also for other complex neighborhoods and also for a square lattice) show the power-law dependence pc∝(ζ/K)−γ with γ=0.526(11) , 0.5439(63), and 0.5932(47), for a honeycomb, square, and triangular lattice, respectively, and pc∝ζ−γ with γ=0.5546(67) independently on the underlying lattice. The index ζ=∑iziri stands for an average coordination number weighted by distance, that is, depending on the coordination zone number i , the neighborhood coordination number zi , and the distance ri to sites in the ith coordination zone from the central site. Abstract:We consider the cardinality of supercritical oriented bond percolation in two dimensions. We show that, whenever the origin is conditioned to percolate, the process appropriately normalized converges asymptotically in distribution to the standard normal law. This resolves a longstanding open problem pointed out to in several instances in the literature. The result applies also to the continuous-time analog of the process, viz. the basic one-dimensional contact process. We also derive general random-indices central limit theorems for associated random variables as byproducts of our proof.

Abstract:In this paper, the main focus is on the Sierpinski carpet Julia sets of the rational maps with non-recurrent critical points. We study the uniform quasicircle property of the peripheral circles, the relatively separated property of the peripheral circles and the locally porous property of these carpets. We also establish some quasisymmetric rigidities of these carpets, which generalizes the main results of Bonk-Lyubich-Merenkov to the postcritically infinite case. In the end we give a strategy to construct a class of postcritically infinite rational maps whose Julia sets are quasisymetrically equivalent to some round carpets.
Critical Polynomials in the Nonplanar and Continuum Percolation Models

Abstract:Exact or precise thresholds have been intensively studied since the introduction of the percolation model. Recently, the critical polynomial P_{B}(p,L) was introduced for planar-lattice percolation models, where p is the occupation probability and L is the linear system size. The solution of P_{B}=0 can reproduce all known exact thresholds and leads to unprecedented estimates for thresholds of unsolved planar-lattice models. In two dimensions, assuming the universality of P_{B}, we use it to study a nonplanar lattice model, i.e., the equivalent-neighbor lattice bond percolation, and the continuum percolation of identical penetrable disks, by Monte Carlo simulations and finite-size scaling analysis. It is found that, in comparison with other quantities, P_{B} suffers much less from finite-size corrections. As a result, we obtain a series of high-precision thresholds p_{c}(z) as a function of coordination number z for equivalent-neighbor percolation with z up to O(10^{5}) and clearly confirm the asymptotic behavior zp_{c}-1∼1/sqrt[z] for z→∞. For the continuum percolation model, we surprisingly observe that the finite-size correction in P_{B} is unobservable within uncertainty O(10^{-5}) as long as L≥3. The estimated threshold number density of disks is ρ_{c}=1.43632505(10), slightly below the most recent result ρ_{c}=1.43632545(8) of Mertens and Moore obtained by other means. Our work suggests that the critical polynomial method can be a powerful tool for studying nonplanar and continuum systems in statistical mechanics.
Universal Critical Behavior of Percolation in Orientationally Ordered Janus Particles and Other Anisotropic Systems

Abstract:We combine percolation theory and Monte Carlo simulation to study in two dimensions the connectivity of an equilibrium lattice model of interacting Janus disks which self-assemble into an orientationally ordered stripe phase at low temperature. As the patch size is increased or the temperature is lowered, clusters of patch-connected disks grow, and a percolating cluster emerges at a threshold. In the stripe phase, the critical clusters extend longer in the direction parallel to the stripes than in the perpendicular direction, and percolation is thus anisotropic. It is found that the critical behavior of percolation in the Janus system is consistent with that of standard isotropic percolation, when an appropriate spatial rescaling is made. The rescaling procedure can be applied to understand other anisotropic systems, such as the percolation of aligned rigid rods and of the $q$-state Potts model with anisotropic interactions.
Percolation critical probabilities of matching lattice-pairs

Abstract:A necessary and sufficient condition is established for the strict inequality $p_c(G_*)<p_c(G)$ between the critical probabilities of site percolation on a quasi-transitive, plane graph $G$ and on its matching graph $G_*$. It is assumed that $G$ is properly embedded in either the Euclidean or the hyperbolic plane. When $G$ is transitive, strict inequality holds if and only if $G$ is not a triangulation. The basic approach is the standard method of enhancements, but its implemention has complexity arising from the non-Euclidean (hyperbolic) space, the study of site (rather than bond) percolation, and the generality of the assumption of quasi-transitivity. This result is complementary to the work of the authors ("Hyperbolic site percolation", <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2203.00981" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2203.00981">arXiv:2203.00981</a>) on the equality $p_u(G) + p_c(G_*) = 1$, where $p_u$ is the critical probability for the existence of a unique infinite open cluster. It implies for transitive $G$ that $p_u(G) + p_c(G) \ge 1$, with equality if and only if $G$ is a triangulation.
