Abstract:Single-crystalline potassium triniobate (KNb3O8) nanobelts with widths of 50 to several hundreds nanometers and length up to tens of microns were synthesized in a large-scale by a facile molten salt synthesis method. The phase of the as-prepared nanobelts was determined by X-ray diffraction, and the morphology and structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and selected area electron diffraction. The band gap of KNb3O8 nanobelts was estimated to be about 3.45eV from the onset of UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectrum. The obtained KNb3O8 nanobelts exhibited high photocatalytic efficiency for the degradation of methyl orange under UV irradiation.

Abstract:This work demonstrates a highly efficient method for large-scale synthesis of elongated BaTiO3 nanowires via a novel stirring hydrothermal process. Compared with conventional hydrothermal reaction, one-dimensional (1D) lead-free BaTiO3 nanowires can be realized at an even lower temperature with a shorter dwelling time. Results suggest that the mechanical force-driven stirring process improved the diffusion and surface reaction rate of BaTiO3 nanocrystal growth in the solution phase, apparently, leading to the growth of the BaTiO3 nanowires via an oriented attachment mechanism. Meanwhile, to the best of our knowledge, this method is also the first reported protocol which is capable to grow elongated BaTiO3 nanowires with length up to tens of micrometers. This research outcome provides a promising option for low cost, high-throughput fabrication of 1D nanostructure in respect of mass-manufacturing.

Abstract:By virtue of its non-toxicity, high T c, and non-linear optical and ferroelectric properties, one-dimensional (1D) potassium niobate (KNbO3) may enable the development of numerous nanoscale devices. Despite the progress in 1D perovskite materials, preparing high aspect ratio KNbO3 nanostructures is still a concern. This report presents the successful synthesis of ultra-long KNbO3 nanofibers using a simple sol-gel assisted far-field electrospinning process. At optimized conditions, centimeters long, orthorhombic KNbO3 nanofibers with an average diameter of 100 nm have been obtained. The nanofibers are composed of uniform grains densely stacked along the direction of the nanofiber axis. Due to large surface-volume ratio, a high sensitive humidity nanosensor based on KNbO3 nanofibers displaying a logarithmic-linear dependence behavior of the conductance with the relative humidity (RH) was demonstrated. The conductance increases dramatically from 10(-10) ℧ to 10(-6) ℧ while RH varies from 15% to 95% at room temperature. In addition, the nanosensor exhibits excellent sensing performance, including ultrafast response (≤2 s) and recovery times (≤10 s), good linearity and reproducibility. Furthermore, the change in ferroelectric coercivity with respect to the RH and its effect in the sensing behavior were unveiled. This work could enable broad applications in the fields of environmental sensing and nano-electrical-mechanical systems.

Abstract:The size-controlled synthesis of barium titanate (BaTiO3) nanocrystals has been achieved by a hydrothermal route with Fe doping and ethylenediamine (en) addition. The as-synthesized BaTiO3 nanocrystals were characterized with XRD, SEM, TEM, and HRTEM. The results revealed that the average particle sizes of Fe-doped samples were reduced compared to that of the sample without Fe doping, suggesting that the doping ions inhibited the crystal growth. It was also found that the average particle size decreased as the Fe doping concentration increased. Furthermore, the addition of en, which served as both solvent and capping agent, could suppress the particle growth and lead to the change in particle shape from sphere to cube by a confined effect.

Abstract:Single-crystalline nanorods and nanowires are grown using a hydrothermal system with the assistance of polymer additives. Tetragonal perovskite PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3 nanorods (see Figure) are grown in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol), while nanowires are formed in the presence of poly(vinyl alcohol) and poly(acrylic acid). The polymers are absorbed on the axial side of the particles, reducing the surface energy and inducing oriented growth.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline potassium niobates (KNbO3, KNb3O8 and K4Nb6O17) of different morphologies were synthesized with the low-temperature hydrothermal method by adjusting the alkalinity of the reaction system. A possible formation mechanism of the nanocrystalline niobates was proposed based on the experimental results. All of the products were characterized with X-ray powder diffraction and transition electron microscopy. The Fourier transform (FT) infrared, FT-Raman and UV–VIS properties of the niobates were studied.

Abstract:Potassium niobate (KNbO3) nanowires were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy indicated the nanowires are well-crystallized with orthorhombic structure. High resolution transmission electron microscopy showed the KNbO3 nanowires grew along the [110] direction. The photocatalytic water splitting results over KNbO3 nanowires showed that the rate for H-2 evolution from aqueous CH3OH solutions was up to 5.17 mmol/h/gcat. To the best of our knowledge, the photocatalytic water splitting activity of the prepared nanowires is the highest in all KNbO3 materials.

Abstract:Single-crystal SnO2 nanorods with tunable diameters and lengths, ∼42×197, ∼5.5×19.3 and ∼4.5×39.1 nm, have been synthesized through a simple hydrothermal process, using a mixture of water/ethanol (1:1 in volume), a mixture of water/ethanol (1:1 in volume) with cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide, and pure ethanol as reaction media, respectively. X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, UV–Visible spectroscopy and other techniques were used to characterize the nanorods. The as-synthesized SnO2 nanorods exhibit preferential growth along the [001] direction. The related mechanisms of the oriented growth and dimensional tunableness are discussed.

Abstract:Perovskite-type alkaline niobate nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning. KNbO3 nanofibers with lower BET exhibit higher photocatalytic efficiency than NaNbO3 with similar phase structure and morphology. The internal electric field, which does not exist in antiferroelectric NaNbO3, induced by spontaneous polarization in ferroelectric KNbO3 can promote the separation and accelerate the movement of photogenerated charge carriers.

Abstract:A facile ion-exchange approach was developed for the synthesis of single-crystalline sodium and calcium niobates nanorods at a large-scale based on molten-salt reaction between potassium niobate nanowires and molten sodium or calcium chlorides. It is suggested that the formation of sodium and calcium niobate nanorods was a self-sacrificing templated process through ion exchange.

Abstract:We report a facile, solution-phase route to large-scale fabrication and characterization of single crystalline CU2O nanowires with controllable diameter, different morphologies, and high aspect ratios. The synthesis Of Cu2O nanowires is achieved by the reduction of cupric acetate with o-anisidine, pyrrole, or 2,5-dimethoxyaniline under hydrothermal conditions. The electrical properties of individual Cu2O nanowires have been examined by I-V characteristics. The output properties of Cu2O/poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) core/shell nanowires shown-type characteristics and improved conductivity, while those of Cu2O nanowires are linear. The results from this study provide a low-cost, naturally abundant nanostructured material for use in electronic devices.

Abstract:Single-crystalline LiNbO3 nanorods with a trigonal rhombic crystal structure are synthesized through hydrothermal reaction with KOH, LiOH⋅H2O, and Nb2O5 as source materials. LiNbO3 nanorods were along the [110] crystallographic direction. KOH was found to be essential for the formation of one dimensional nanostructures. Meanwhile, waveguiding performance of the LiNbO3 nanorods was investigated. The as-synthesized nanorods exhibit broadband waveguiding capability in the experiments. High temperature annealing was also proved to be effective in enhancing the transmission of the nanowire waveguides by reducing the defects in the nanorods.

Abstract:Morphology control is important for nanocrystal engineering, and surfactants are usually employed as soft templates for the synthesis of nanocrystals with defined shape. Herein, we employed silicone oil as a surfactant for the first time and demonstrated its effectiveness in the controlled synthesis of uniform Na2Nb2O6 center dot H2O nanowires; these nanowires can be further transformed into perovskite-type monocrystalline NaNbO3 nanowires. Via combining morphology and phase analysis, it was shown that the addition of silicone oil in the hydrothermal processing of Na2Nb2O6 center dot H2O nanowires greatly suppressed the production of the impurity phase and broadened the range of the required reaction duration, leading to a facile synthesis of high-quality sodium niobate nano wires. The effect of the silicone oil concentration was also studied, and it was found that there existed an optimum concentration of silicone oil that resulted in the most uniform Na2Nb2O6 center dot H2O nano wires with nearly 100% phase purity.

Abstract:With citric acid as chelating agent,ethylene alcohol as etherification agent and water as solvent,KNbO3 nanopowder was synthesized by polymeric precursor method.The effects of the amount of CA and EG as wellas pH value on the stability of the precursor Sol were investigated.The evolution of KNbO3 crystal phase was also investigated by XRD and TG-DTA.The results showed that a homogeneous precursor Sol could be formed at the case of n(CA)∶n(metal ion)=3∶1,n(CA)∶n(EG)=1∶2 and pH= 7.5.During the calcinations K3Nb7O19 and K4Nb6O17 occurred first and then reacted into KNbO3 Sintering process largely influences the morphology of the prepared productswhen the precursor Sol was heated to 700 ℃ at different temperature rising rate.Grain-like nanoparticles could be obtained with a rapid temperature rising rate,while nanorods were obtained with a slow rate.The forming mechanism of different morphologies of the prepared nanoparticles was also discussed.

Abstract:Ultrasmall 10-nm-wide boehmite single-crystal nanobelts have been prepared by a simple and efficient “molecule tailoring lamella” route with clear advantages over the traditional high-temperature approach for the large-scale production of 1D nanomaterials. Different sized nanobelts can be obtained by only changing the concentration of the tailoring agent. These ultrafine nanobelts should be good candidates for investigating size-induced electrical and optical properties of functional oxides. This novel method has been successfully applied to other ultrasmall hydroxyl nanobelts, such as FeOOH, InOOH.

Abstract:Self-supported patterns of oriented alignment of beta-FeOOH nanowires are fabricated through a simple solution reaction from the complex [Fe(phen)(3)](2+) at 60 degrees C. The alignment of nanowires with a diameter of 40 nm and length of 6 mum is relatively uniform. HRTEM studies show that the growing direction of beta-FeOOH nanowires is perpendicular to the orientation plane of self-formed beta-FeOOH flake-like substrates. In the reaction and crystal growth process, the precursor [Fe(phen)(3)](2+) is undoubtedly vital to the formation of nanowire alignment. In detail, the formation of aligned nanowires is thought to be realized by controlling two competing reactions. Electrochemical and UV-visible measurements suggest that the product might have potential applications in lithium batteries and semiconductor electronics. This synthetic process is simple, mild, clean, reproducible, and free of any template; it provides a novel pathway for the low-temperature growth of nanowires and their simultaneous oriented alignment.
