Abstract:ZnO quantum dots were synthesized by chemical precipitation, CuFe2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by in situ synthesis of cellulose, and then ZnO/CuFe2O4 (ZCF) composites were fabricated. A photocatalyst (ZCF@MB-MIP) with specific molecule recognition and photocatalytic degradation characteristics was then produced by a surface imprinting method using methylene blue (MB) as the template molecule. The structure of ZCF@MB-MIP was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The photocatalytic efficiency of ZCF@MB-MIP and its specific recognition performance in MB degradation was analyzed. The adsorption kinetics of MB by ZCF@MB-MIP conformed to the quasi-secondary adsorption kinetics model. ZCF@MB-MIP displayed effective photocatalytic degradation of MB under natural light. The degradation rate reached 95.8%, which was much higher than those of ZCF, CuFe2O4 nanoparticles, and a non-imprinted reference sample under the same conditions. This work is a useful reference for the construction of photocatalysts that show highly selective recognition of dye molecules.
The Development and Synthesis of a CdZnS @Metal–Organic Framework ZIF-8 for the Highly Efficient Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Dyes

Abstract:The development of photocatalysts for organic degradation is a hot research topic. In this study, CdZnS was selected as the carrier, and ZIF-8 was combined with it to explore the photocatalytic performance of the composite. In addition, the compound material, CdZnS@ZIF-8, was used as a photocatalyst for the decomposition of methylene blue dye, and the performance of pure CdZnS and pure ZIF-8 was compared. The photocatalytic efficiency of CdZnS@ZIF-8 was significantly higher than that of the other two. In the experimental reaction, the amount of catalyst was 0.04 g, the pH value was 7, the initial concentration of methylene blue aqueous solution was 20 mg/L, and the degradation of methylene blue in 50 mL aqueous solution could reach 99.5% under visible light irradiation for 90 min, showing excellent photocatalytic efficiency in the visible light range. It demonstrated excellent photocatalytic function in the visible light region, and the electron transfer phenomenon at the interface occurred in the het-junction and the separation of the photo-generating electron–hole as an electron acceptor of ZIF-8 further promoted the photocatalytic effect.

Abstract:CdS-ZIF-8 photocatalyst was prepared by introducing a ZnO-rich zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) during synthesis of CdS by a facile solvothermal method, using ZnO-rich ZIF-8 and cadmium acetate [Cd(Ac)2] as support and CdS precursor, respectively. The introduction of ZnO-rich ZIF-8 and the photodegradation performance of the catalyst for methylene blue (MB) organic dye were systemically investigated. The CdS-ZIF-8 catalysts were also characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption measurements, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results indicated that CdS-ZIF-8 contained ZIF-8, CdS, and ZnO phases. The CdS in CdS-ZIF-8 catalysts exhibited smaller particle size compared with pure CdS. Furthermore, compared with pure CdS, CdS-ZIF-8-30 with introduction of ZnO-rich ZIF-8 exhibited higher surface area (77.3 m2/g) and pore volume (0.103 cm3/g). EDX and FT-IR results suggested that a CdS/ZnO heterostructure was formed, which effectively reduced recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Radical trapping experimental data and band edge position analysis revealed that Z-scheme behavior also played a role in the system. Relying on the combined effect of their structure, the photodegradation efficiency of all the CdS-ZIF-8 catalysts was obviously superior to that of pure CdS for degradation of MB under visible-light irradiation. Photodegradation results illustrated that CdS-ZIF-8 with introduction of 30 mg ZnO-rich ZIF-8 (denoted as CdS-ZIF-8-30) exhibited optimal photodegradation activity.

Abstract:Using zinc nitrate hexahydrate and 2-methylimidazole as raw materials, ZIF-8 was successfully prepared in the methanol solvent. Through the stepwise strategies of pyrolysis and calcination at different temperatures and atmospheres, the desired product of ZnO/C composite was obtained. The techniques of XRD, FT-IR and SEM were used to determine the structure and morphology of samples, respectively. The results showed that ZnO/C composite retained the hexagonal polyhedron morphology of ZIF-8 and constructed a porous structure. And, the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue solution was carried out using ZnO/C and referenced ZnO as catalysts, respectively. The results declared that the improved catalytic property of ZnO/C composite benefited from the synergistic effect of ZnO and porous carbon skeleton. The excellent degradation ability of ZnO/C was achieved. This work provided a facile way to develop ZnO-based photocatalysts with the desired photocatalytic performance.

Abstract:Due to the wider band gap and low electron discharge capacity, the Zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF‐8) showed low photocatalytic performance compared with conventional semiconductor materials. To enhance the photocatalytic activity of ZIF‐8, the ZIF‐8@AgNWs composite was synthesized via the in‐situ growth method using AgNWs as the photo‐enhanced material. The obtained ZIF‐8@AgNWs exhibit the fully encapsulated shell‐core structure of ZIF‐8‐AgNWs. The UV‐Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) analysis showed that the addition of AgNWs led to a significant increase in light absorption of the ZIF‐8@AgNWs composite, and the band gap of the ZIF‐8@AgNWs was 2.9 eV, with a significant decrease compared to pure ZIF‐8 (4.96 eV). The ZIF‐8@AgNWs‐2 achieves the best photocatalytic activity for methylene blue (MB) degradation. Its degradation efficiency reached 94%, and its apparent rate constant was 0.04371 min−1. This work might provide a novel strategy for the MOF‐based photocatalytic materials with higher photocatalytic activity. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A novel ZIF-8@CHs photocatalyst, which was generated using the metal organic framework ZIF-8 and intact chloroplasts (CHs) from Chlorella sp. in a one-pot synthesis, was used in this study for the first time to degrade tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) through photocatalysis. The results of systematic characterization demonstrated that ZIF-8@CHs was successfully p0repared. Meanwhile, ZIF-8@CHs exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance and good adaptability. Under the condition of simulated sunlight, the high porosity ZIF-8 shell enabled CHs to maintain typical photosynthetic oxygen evolution behavior in vitro, and using CHs as the core produced significant ROS, significantly improving the efficiency of TCH photocatalytic degradation. In addition, the radical trapping test and EPR spectra proved that O2-, 1O2, and center dot OH were the key active species for TCH degradation. Eventually, the ZIF-8@CHs system can not only expand the new concept of organic pollutant degradation in water bodies, but also offer recommendations for live organ envelope modification..
Efficient Degradation of Methylene Blue in Industrial Wastewater and High Cycling Stability of Nano ZnO

Abstract:Photocatalytic degradation research has attracted significant attention in the wake of the increasingly severe global challenge of water pollution. In this study, nano-ZnO was synthesized through a straightforward method using zinc acetate anhydrous as the precursor. The experimental results revealed that annealing conditions significantly influenced the bandgap energy (Eg) of ZnO, with a positive correlation observed between the intensity of photoluminescence (PL) spectra and photocatalytic activity. Under optimal annealing conditions at 300 °C for 1.5 h, the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of methylene blue (MB) exceeded 98% within 40 min of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, surpassing the efficiencies reported for ZnO in recent studies. This high performance underscores the excellent photocatalytic activity of the synthesized ZnO samples. Furthermore, after five photocatalytic cycles, the degradation efficiency of MB remained above 90%, and the crystalline structure of the ZnO samples remained stable, demonstrating their exceptional structural stability during the photocatalytic process. Additionally, this study examined the effects of stirring conditions and different light sources on MB degradation, providing valuable insights for future research in related fields.

Abstract:The effective degradation of organic dye pollutants in water was one of the research hotspots at present. In this work, CexZryO2 nanocomposites with different ratios of niobium and zirconium were synthesized by non-stoichiometric and hydrothermal method, and their photodegradation performance of organic dyes was studied. Taking photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) as an example, the influence factors of the catalytic rate of the catalyst were investigated by the band gap energy analysis and specific surface area analysis of solid ultraviolet. The effect of free radicals on the photocatalytic degradation of MB was studied by selective scavenging of free radicals. The degradation efficiency for MB could reach 99.04% within 120 min, which was the highest when the Ce/Zr molar ratio was 9:1 among the serials of CexZryO2 nanocomposites.

Abstract:Photocatalysis is a potential technology for removing pollutants from water. As the recombination of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs can hinder the photocatalytic efficiency in the treatment of wastewater, the surface of the carrier is usually coated with a semiconductor. In this study, carbon microtube electrode prepared from corncob was coated with either titanium oxide (TiO2) or bismuth phosphate (BiPO4) and then used as a photocatalyst (C-TiO2 or C-BiPO4) to investigate the photodegradation of methylene blue (MB). The two photocatalysts, C-TiO2 and C-BiPO4, were characterized by phase determination, microstructure observation, water contact angle measurement, and base site analysis. The influences of reaction time, stability, MB concentration, initial pH, and center dot OH radicals quenching on the degradation of MB were also evaluated. The degradation of MB by C-TiO2 and C-BiPO4 was mainly dominated by center dot OH radical oxidation. The carbon microtube increased both the mass transfer rate and the photogenerated electron-hole pairs separation rate, thereby increasing the photocatalysis of both C-TiO2 and C-BiPO4 as revealed by an increase in the rate of MB degradation. The rate constants obtained for the degradation of MB by C-TiO2 and C-BiPO4 at 20 degrees C were 9.739 x 10(-7) mM min(-1) and 1.111 x 10(-7) mM min(-1) , respectively. The coating of TiO2 and BiPO4 on the surface of the carbon microtube electrode enhanced their photocatalytic performance, and therefore, C-TiO2 and C-BiPO4 could be developed into a novel material to be used in the photodegradation of dye pollutants. Abstract:In this study, two typical refractory organic pollutants, methylene blue (MB) and tetracycline (TC) was effectively degraded under visible-light irradiation catalyzed by Zn/Fe mixed metal oxide (Zn/Fe-MMO) nanocomposite, which derived from the high-temperature calcination of Zn/Fe layered double hydroxide (Zn/Fe-LDH). The Zn/Fe-MMO was composed of wurzite ZnO phases and spinel-structured ZnFe2O4. The Zn/Fe-MMO exhibited superior photocatalytic activity than Zn/Fe-LDH precursor owing to the better crystallinity, broader visible light adsorption, and higher photo-generated electron-hole pairs separation efficiency. Simple assembling method, high photocatalytic activity to the degradation of organic pollutants and good reusability make Zn/Fe-MMO has great potential in practical wastewater treatment.
Transition-state defect structure: A new strategy for TiO2-based porous materials to enhance photodegradation of pollutants

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to investigate the derived structure and properties of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8), and the effect of residual structural on the catalytic properties after loading with Titanium Dioxide (TiO2). For this purpose, we ingeniously prepare C-ZIF-8@TiO2 with a transition-state defect structure and apply it for efficiently degrading organic dye wastewater represented by Rhodamine B (Rh-B). Thanks to the transition-state defect structure loaded with TiO2 and ZIF-8 self-derived Carbon (C) and Zinc Oxide (ZnO), the catalytic performance of C-ZIF-8@TiO2 is superior to that of TiO2 and normal TiO2/ZIF-8 composites, and it is effective in degrading a variety of antibiotics and dyes. The related characterization also shows good photovoltaic properties and long-term durability for C-ZIF-8@TiO2. The mechanism on free radical action is elucidated and the possible degradation pathway for Rh-B is speculated. Therefore, C-ZIF-8@TiO2 provides a new strategy for the degradation of organic pollutants in water bodies.

Abstract:A photocatalyst of Ta-doped ZnO was prepared by a modified Pechini-type method. The structural, morphological properties and photocatalytic activity of 1mol % Ta-doped ZnO samples annealed at different temperatures were characterized. The photo-oxidation of methylene blue under the visible-light irradiation followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics according to the Langmuir–Hinshelwood model. It is found that the photocatalysis of 1% Ta-doped ZnO annealed at 700°C showed excellent performance of the photodegradation of methylene blue, which was attributed to a competitive trade-off among the crystallinity, surface hydroxyl groups, and specific surface area. The processing parameter such as the pH value also played an important role in tuning the photocatalytic activity. The maximum photodecomposed rate was achieved at pH=8, and an novel model about the absorption of methylene blue on the surface of the catalysts was proposed.

Abstract:TiO2 nanotube array was fabricated via anodization, and the resulting film was investigated by XRD and SEM. The degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) dye demonstrated its superior photoelectrochemical activity. By comparison of photocatalysis (PC) and photoelectroncatalysis (PEC), it was found that PEC oxidation was a convenient and effective process to mineralize the organic matters. In addition, the excellent capability of adsorption derived from nanoporous configuration on such electrode also plays an important role in accelerating the degradation process.

Abstract:The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue solution by 8 photocatalytic diphenylanthrazoline compounds was investigated. All diphenylanthrazoline compounds exhibited a good photocatalytic activity towards the methylene blue solution. The removal rate for chemical oxygen demand (CODCr) in the methylene blue solution at 12hours was similar to 54.1% to 96.3%. 2,8-Bis(4-triphenylamino)-4,6-diphenyl-1,9-anthrazoline (TM-2-d) was selected for further investigation because of its better photocatalytic activity. To study the optimal reaction conditions for the photocatalytic degradation of dye wastewater, photocatalyst was applied to degrade methylene blue solution. The decolorization rate for simulated dye solutions can exceed 99% in 10hours, and the CODCr removal rate exceeded 91%. These organic semiconductor materials, diphenylanthrazoline compounds, displayed comparative photocatalytic properties to the inorganic semiconductor materials, which can be used in the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.

Abstract:ZnO ultrathin films with varied thicknesses of 7-70 nm were prepared at 200 degrees C on Si and fused quartz substrates by atomic layer deposition (ALD). The impact of film thickness and annealing temperature on the crystallinity, morphology, optical bandgap, and photocatalytic properties of ZnO in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under UV light irradiation (lambda= 365 nm) has been investigated deeply. The as-deposited 28 nm thick ZnO ultrathin film exhibits highest photocatalytic activity, ascribed to the smallest band gap of 3.21 eV and proper thickness. The photocorrosion effect of ALD ZnO ultrathin films during photocatalytic process is observed. The presence of MB significantly accelerates the dissolution of ZnO ultrathin films. The possible photoetching mechanism of ZnO in MB solution is proposed.

Abstract:This paper presents a study on the synthesis of iron doped ZIF-8 with different molar ratio of Zn/Fe (Fe-ZIF-8) and sunlight driven photocatalytic activity of obtained materials. The materials were characteristic of X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, diffusive reflectance UV–Vis (DR-UV–Vis) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The results showed that Fe(II) as iron source could be directly introduced into ZIF-8 to form Fe-ZIF-8. Depending on the amount of iron(II) introduced, the Fe(II) or both Fe(II) and Fe(III) may exist in ZIF-8. Fe-ZIF-8 was selected as photocatalyst to decompose Remazol deep black B (RDB), a model of dye contaminant, under sunlight illumination. Undoped ZIF-8 seems not to catalyze for degradation of RDB while Fe-ZIF-8 exhibited sunlight-driven photocatalytic degradation of RDB. The kinetics of photocatalytic reaction were also addressed. This study suggests iron doped zeolite-imidazole framework Fe-ZIF-8 to be promising catalyst for the heterogeneous photo-catalytic dye degradation technique in visible region.
