Abstract:The existence of optimal binary self-dual codes is a long-standing research problem. In this paper, we present some results concerning the decomposition of binary self-dual codes with a dihedral automorphism group D-2p, where p is a prime. These results are applied to construct new self-dual codes with length 78 or 116. We obtain 16 inequivalent self-dual [78, 39, 14] codes, four of which have new weight enumerators. We also show that there are at least 141 inequivalent self-dual [116, 58, 18] codes, most of which are new up to equivalence. Meanwhile, we give some restrictions on the weight enumerators of singly even self-dual codes. We use these restrictions to exclude some possible weight enumerators of self-dual codes with lengths 74, 76, 82, 98 and 100.

Abstract:In this correspondence, we study the probability of undetected error for binary constant-weight codes. First, we derive a new formula on the probability of undetected error for binary constant-weight codes. Second, using this new formula and linear programming, we give two new lower bounds on the probability of undetected error for binary constant-weight codes. These two new lower bounds improve on previously known lower bounds in certain cases. Furthermore, we show that these two lower bounds are tight if and only if the binary constant-weight codes are generated from certain$t$-designs in combinatorial design theory. This means that these binary constant-weight codes generated from certain$t$-designs are uniformly optimal for error detection. Along the way, we determine the distance distributions of such binary constant-weight codes. Finally, several examples are given to illustrate the results obtained in this correspondence.

Abstract:The determination of weight distribution of cyclic codes involves the evaluation of Gauss sums and exponential sums. Despite some cases where a neat expression is available, the computation is generally rather complicated. In this note, we determine the weight distribution of a class of reducible cyclic codes whose dual codes may have arbitrarily many zeros. This goal is achieved by building an unexpected connection between the corresponding exponential sums and the spectra of Hermitian forms graphs.

Abstract:In this correspondence, we study the probability of undetected error for binary constant weight codes. We derive some bounds on the exponent of the probability of undetected error for binary constant weight codes. These bounds enable us to extend the region in which the exponent of the probability of undetected error is exactly determined

Abstract:Motivated by applications in DNA storage, we study a setting in which strings are affected by tandem-duplication errors. In particular, we look at two settings: disjoint tandem-duplication errors, and equal-length tandem-duplication errors. We construct codes, with positive asymptotic rate, for the two settings, as well as for their combination. Our constructions are duplication-free codes, comprising codewords that do not contain tandem duplications of specific lengths. Additionally, our codes generalize previous constructions, containing them as special cases.

Abstract:Solid codes can be used in information transmission over a noisy channel because they have remarkable synchronization and error-detecting capabilities in the presence of noise. In this paper, we focus on combinatoric properties of solid codes. We begin by characterizing solid codes by means of infix codes and unbordered words. Then, we discuss the decomposition of solid codes (in particular, the maximal solid codes). And finally, we investigate several properties of the products of the solid codes and some other kinds of codes. Our results given in this paper significantly enrich the theory of solid codes.

Abstract:Due to the prior work by Köetter and Kschischang (IEEE Trans Inf Theory 54(8):3579–3591, 2008), subspace codes (especially constant-dimension codes, CDC for short) have attracted significant attention in recent years. The sub-code construction is currently one of the most popular constructions, which can be used to further improve the lower bounds for CDCs' construction. In this paper, we show how to improve the construction of subspace codes from two parallel versions of the sub-code construction. This construction allows us to obtain larger size codes for a given minimum distance, which exceeds the latest improvements on the sub-code construction (Cossidente et al. in Adv Math Commun, 2021, https://doi.org/10.3934/amc.2021007; Lao et al. in Cryptogr Commun, 2021) in the cases including , and , etc.

Abstract:Symbol-pair codes are block codes when considering the pair-metric, and are designed to protect against pair-errors occur in the pair-read vector which consisting of overlapping pairs of symbols. A code that achieves the analog of Singleton bound for symbol-pair codes is called a maximum distance separable (MDS) symbol-pair code. The contribution of this letter is twofold. First, we give a lower bound of minimum pair-distance of repeated-root constacyclic codes in terms of minimum Hamming distance, which extends the lower bound given by Chen, Lin and Liu. Second, we give three new classes of MDS symbol-pair codes. As we know, for an MDS symbol-pair code with a fixed minimum pair-distance, the larger the code length of the code has, the higher the code rate is. The first class of MDS symbol-pair codes we show has unbounded code length and the other two classes of MDS symbol-pair codes have larger code lengths than the code lengths of existing MDS symbol-pair codes under the same minimum pair-distance 6.

Abstract:The list-decodable code has been an active topic in theoretical computer <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://science.There" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> are general results about the list-decodability to the Johnson radius and the list-decoding capacity theorem. In this paper we show that rates, list-decodable radius and list sizes are closely related to the classical topic of covering codes. We prove new general simple but strong upper bounds for list-decodable codes in general finite metric spaces based on various covering codes. The general covering code upper bounds can be applied to the case that the volumes of the balls depend on the centers, not only on the radius. Then any good upper bound on the covering radius or the size of covering code imply a good upper bound on the sizes of list-decodable codes. Our results give exponential improvements on the recent generalized Singleton upper bound in STOC 2020 for Hamming metric list-decodable codes, when the code lengths are large. A generalized Singleton upper bound for average-radius list-decodable codes is also given from our general covering code upper bound. We also suggest to study the combinatorial covering list-decodable codes as a natural generalization of combinatorial list-decodable codes. We apply our general covering code upper bounds for list-decodable rank-metric codes, list-decodable subspace codes, list-decodable insertion codes list-decodable deletion codes,list-decodable sum-rank-metric codes and list decodable permutation codes. Some new better results about non-list-decodability of rank-metric codes, subspace codes, sum-rank-metric codes and permutation codes with various metrics are obtained.

Abstract:The exact number of nonperiodic cyclic equivalence classes (NCEC) in cyclic code is determined. By NCEC, several algebraic constructions of cyclically permutable (CP) codes are given in this paper. These constructions can yield good (large size) CP codes. Furthermore, we present detailed discussions for some well known cyclic codes. By using the above CP codes, we can obtain good (large size) binary constant weight CP codes and protocol-sequence sets for collision channel without feedback according the methods in [1].
