Abstract:The modified Hamming bound for unequal error protection (UEP) codes is derived. Based on the code symbol separation vector of UEP codes, we derived the large weight error pattern correction criterion for a given UEP code. The criterion is also valid for non-linear UEP codes. Furthermore, the modified Hamming bound for UEP codes can also be applied to non-linear UEP codes.

Abstract:The event upset is the main concern of reliability in space communication. Among all event upset tolerant techniques, error detecting and correcting coding technique is simple and effective to protect the communication of micro-processor between the memory and register. This paper propose a second hamming code technique which can improve the error detecting and error correcting capacity based on minimum Hamming distance. Therefore, this second hamming code technique can be used in radiation hardened communication environment. Experiment results have also proved that second hamming code is complexity and is effective to error detecting and correcting.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the design and decoding schemes for shortened turbo product codes adopted in IEEE 802.16 standard. To design a good structure for shortened turbo product code, we compute the undetected error probability of the component codes and select the optimal generator polynomials in terms of their undetected error probability. For the decoding algorithm, we present an efficient Chase decoding algorithm for shortened turbo product codes in which the reliability factor used in Pyndiah's scheme is not needed. Thus the decoding complexity is reduced greatly by avoiding the normalization operation of the whole codeword at each iteration. Simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm

To begin with, we present the minimum number of required exclusive-ORs~(XORs) in the encoding of (punctured)~Hadamard codes and (extended)~Hamming codes. Abstract:We report two analytical bounds for quantum error-correcti ng codes that do not have preexisting classical counterparts. Firstly the quantum Hamming and Singleton bo unds are combined into a single tighter bound, and then the combined bound is further strengthened via the well -known Lloyd’s theorem in classical coding theory, which claims that perfect codes, codes attaining the Hammin g bound, do not exist if the Lloyd’s polynomial has some non-integer zeros. Our bound characterizes quantitat ively he improvement over the Hamming bound via the non-integerness of the zeros of the Lloyd’s polynomial. In the case of 1-error correcting codes our bound holds true for impure codes as well, which we conjecture to be always true, and for stabilizer codes there is a 1-logical-qudit improvement for an infinite family of lengt hs.

Abstract:Error correction coding has been a crucial part of data transmission or storage. In high-reliability applications, the single error correction and double error detections Hamming code may not provide adequate protection against burst errors. This makes multiple-error correction highly desirable. This paper proposed a novel approach to improving burst errors correction capability of the Hamming code, while retaining code rate as maximum as possible. Software implementation of Hamming encoding and decoding are proposed in this paper, and the simplicity and effectiveness of their implementations are demonstrated with example.

Abstract:In this correspondence, we study the probability of undetected error for binary constant weight codes. First, we derive a new lower bound on the probability of undetected error for binary constant weight codes. Next, we show that this bound is tight if and only if the binary constant weight codes are generated from certain t-designs in combinatorial design theory. This means that these binary constant weight codes generated from certain t-designs are uniformly optimal for error detection. Along the way, we determine the distance distributions of such binary constant weight codes. In particular, it is shown that binary constant weight codes generated from Steiner systems are uniformly optimal for error detection. Thus, we prove a conjecture of Xia, Fu, Jiang, and Ling. Furthermore, the distance distribution of a binary constant weight code generated from a Steiner system is determined. Finally, we study the exponent of the probability of undetected error for binary constant weight codes. We derive some bounds on the exponent of the probability of undetected error for binary constant weight codes. These bounds enable us to extend the region in which the exponent of the probability of undetected error is exactly determined

Abstract:Independent parallel q-ary symmetric channels are a suitable transmission model for several applications. The proposed weighted-Hamming metric is tailored to this setting and enables optimal decoding performance. We show that some weighted-Hamming-metric codes exhibit the unusual property that all errors beyond half the minimum distance can be corrected. Nevertheless, a tight relation between the error-correction capability of a code and its minimum distance can be established. Generalizing their Hamming-metric counterparts, upper and lower bounds on the cardinality of a code with a given weighted-Hamming distance are obtained. Finally, we propose a simple code construction with optimal minimum distance for specific parameters.

Abstract:Symbol-pair codes are block codes when considering the pair-metric, and are designed to protect against pair-errors occur in the pair-read vector which consisting of overlapping pairs of symbols. A code that achieves the analog of Singleton bound for symbol-pair codes is called a maximum distance separable (MDS) symbol-pair code. The contribution of this letter is twofold. First, we give a lower bound of minimum pair-distance of repeated-root constacyclic codes in terms of minimum Hamming distance, which extends the lower bound given by Chen, Lin and Liu. Second, we give three new classes of MDS symbol-pair codes. As we know, for an MDS symbol-pair code with a fixed minimum pair-distance, the larger the code length of the code has, the higher the code rate is. The first class of MDS symbol-pair codes we show has unbounded code length and the other two classes of MDS symbol-pair codes have larger code lengths than the code lengths of existing MDS symbol-pair codes under the same minimum pair-distance 6.

First, we derive a new formula on the probability of undetected error for binary constant-weight codes. Second, using this new formula and linear programming, we give two new lower bounds on the probability of undetected error for binary constant-weight codes. These two new lower bounds improve on previously known lower bounds in certain cases. Furthermore, we show that these two lower bounds are tight if and only if the binary constant-weight codes are generated from certain$t$-designs in combinatorial design theory. This means that these binary constant-weight codes generated from certain$t$-designs are uniformly optimal for error detection. Along the way, we determine the distance distributions of such binary constant-weight codes. Finally, several examples are given to illustrate the results obtained in this correspondence.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we propose a new class of error-detecting codes based on quasigroups using automorphisms of the finite field [math] and the additive group [math]. We demonstrate that these codes are effective in detecting burst errors caused by hardware damage or noisy transmission. We also explore the codes ability to detect various types of double errors, including transposition errors, twin errors, and phonetic errors. Our analysis extends beyond bit-level errors to include block-level errors. Finally, we provide a comparative analysis and demonstrate the real-world applications of our code.
