Abstract:Nanowelding of nanomaterials opens up an emerging set of applications in transparent conductors, thin-film solar cells, nanocatalysis, cancer therapy, and nanoscale patterning. Single point nanowelding (SPNW) is highly demanded for building complex nanostructures. In this letter, the precise control of SPNW of silver nanowires is explored in depth, where the nanowelding is laser-induced through the plasmonic resonance enhanced photothermal effect. It is shown that the illumination position is a critical factor for the nanowelding process. As an example of performance enhancement, output at wire end can be increased by 65% after welding for a plasmonic nanocoupler. Thus, single point nanowelding technique shows great potentials for high-performance electronic and photonic devices based on nanowires, such as nanoelectronic circuits and plasmonic nanodevices.

Abstract:In this paper, silver micro/nanostructures composed of sintered nanoparticles were printed by capturing silver nanoparticles in water with 800 nm femtosecond laser trapping. Relationships of laser power, scanning speed, nanoparticle concentration, and the width and morphology of fabricated silver wire were systematically investigated. It is found that low scanning speed and high nanoparticle concentration favor the printing of silver wire with good morphology. A silver wire with width of 305 nm was printed. Electrical resistivities of printed wires are about 24 times that of bulk silver. Silver grid structures and dot arrays were printed by using this technology. Several three-dimensional silver cuboid structures were also printed. This work provides a protocol for printing of three-dimensional metallic micro/nanostructures using laser trapping. These printed structures have great application prospects in metamaterials, flexible electronics, and SERS.

Abstract:The construction of multilayered arched nanobridges and nanocantilever structures from silver nanowires using a photothermal-induced nanobonding technique is reported by Qiang Li and co-workers in article number 1800807. The multilayered arch nanobridges are used as short-circuit-free multipronged electronic connections in nanoelectronic devices. Both types of nanostructure also exhibit excellent mechanical strength and show potential for use in biological sensors.

Abstract:A novel, simple and efficient procedure was developed to electrodeposit one-dimensional Ag nanowires from reverse hexagonal liquid crystalline phases by using their one-dimensional cylindrical aqueous microdomains as space-confined reactors. Using this soft-template approach, flexible Ag nanowire arrays with wire diameter of 15-30 nm, high aspect ratio over 1000, and high wire densities over 10 11 wires/cm 2 were obtained. The Ag nanowire arrays can be easily collected by simply washing. The nanowires obtained can be used either in high-density bundle form or as single wires after dispersion by untrasonication.

Abstract:Elaborately programmed silver nanowire arrays can be prepared using a tapered push-pull nozzle system (TPPNS), which is used to directly write micro-nano wires on a substrate via a two-reagent reaction in the diffusion mixing region. The wires could be precisely positioned on the substrate and their width could be freely controlled from the micro to the nano scale, indicating an advance in the methodologies of controlling and fabricating nanowires. The as-prepared silver three-electrode device can serve as a three-electrode sensor.

Abstract:A novel high-resolution nanowire fabrication method is developed by thin-film patterning using a spatially modulated femtosecond laser pulse. Deep subwavelength (≈1/13 of the laser wavelength) and high conductivity (≈1/4 of the bulk gold) nanowires are fabricated in the open air without using masks, which offers a single-step arbitrary direct patterning approach for electronics, plasmonics, and optoelectronics nanodevices.

Abstract:Holographic lithography in combination with electrochemical deposition provides a novel and readily controlled method for preparing dendritic three-dimensional silver nanostructure with a large surface area. The scanning electron microscope and the synchrotron radiation X-ray three-dimensional imaging technique are used to characterize the as-prepared silver nanomaterial and demonstrate that the obtained silver has a three-dimensional dendritic morphology. The observed typical widths between the neighbor branches of the dendritic silver nanostructure are 30-50 nm. The configuration of the silver nanostructure is greatly related to the width of gold wires which are fabricated using holographic lithography and serve as substrate of the silver nanostructure. The three-dimensional silver architecture is formed only when silver is electrochemically deposited on 400-nm-width gold. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this study, silver/silver-tetracyanoquinodimethane nanowires with excellent microstructure quality are prepared by combining the nanoskiving method with the solution reaction method, and their electrical properties are tested. The perpendicular cutting direction and larger cutting thickness are beneficial to the acquisition of complete and less deformed silver nanowires. Silver/silver-tetracyanoquinodimethane heterogeneous nanowires can be precisely prepared at small droplet concentration, small droplet volume, and 60 s reaction time. The continuity, dimensions, and formation mechanism of nanowires are characterized by atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscope. Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscope revealed the successful formation and core-shell structure of silver-tetracyanoquinodimethane nanowires. The electrical properties of silver/silver-tetracyanoquinodimethane heterostructure nanowires show a typical Schottky barrier using a two-point electrical measurement method. This work lays a solid foundation for promoting the engineering application of silver nanowires and silver/silver-tetracyanoquinodimethane heterogeneous nanowires.

Abstract:This work reports a far‐field femtosecond laser direct writing technology with a low‐numerical aperture objective lens for metallic nanowire array fabrication, bringing in ingenious tunability to break the diffraction limit by employing a spatially modulated dual‐peak vector beam. This method provides an alternative way for the fabrication of sub‐diffraction‐limit metallic nanowires in the field of flexible electric devices.Metallic nanowires have exhibited paramount importance in achieving functional electrical, electrochemical, and optical performances due to their unique physicochemical properties. Efficient fabrication of the nanowires with controllable geometry and line width is highly required in related applications. Here a new far‐field laser parallel direct writing approach for fabricating nanowire array far beyond the diffraction limit by a modulated vector beam with dual‐peak intensity distribution is reported. Such a modulated beam can perform selective laser ablation to fabricate nanowires, whose line width can be largely reduced by tuning the dual‐peak orientation relative to the laser scanning direction. As a demonstration, a 157 nm‐wide (less than λ/3) gold nanowire, reaching ≈1/20 of the diffraction limit, has been fabricated in far field by using a low numerical aperture microscope objective (NA = 0.1). The nanowire fabrication efficiency is also largely improved by applying multifocal modulated vector beams for parallel processing.

Abstract:Nano/micro fibers doped with metal nanocrystals are of great interest both theorectically and practically. Nevertheless, the ordered assembly of metal nanocrystals with desired patterns in nano/micro fibers still remains a big challenge, which constrains the further development of the performance of the material. In this investigation, we propose a facile strategy based on the sol-gel and coaxial electrospinning technique to fabricate silica submicron fibers incorporating ordered 1D array of silver nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles align strictly in a head-to-tail manner in silica fibers, and their size, shape and population are conveniently controlled through tailoring the properties of the precursor solutions and the electrospinning parameters. Therefore, the plasmon property of the obtained fibers is tuned with great freedom. The fabrication method applied here holds great potential for low-cost preparation of metal/glass composite fibers for nano/micro optical applications in general.

Abstract:Macroscopic-long silver nanowire ribbon including thousands of parallel aligned silver nanowires was prepared on a bare optical fiber surface in the solid phase using a solid state ionics method. Their structural characters were described at different spatial scales. The photoelectrical behavior between two contact interfaces of the ribbon and bulk metal (Ag or Ni) electrodes was explored using a local illumination by a 532 nm laser beam. Photoinduced currents were found dramatically depend on the laser spot position relative to the contact interface. In addition, the magnitudes of photoinduced current were different from been contact with Ag electrodes to Ni electrodes.

Abstract:In this paper, we report a novel electrochemical deposition (ECD) method to fabricate silver nanoscale wires and dendrites. We carry out the electrochemical deposition (ECD) process on a small piece of Si wafer. On its surface, there are micro-scale predefined silver electrodes. We use organic solution (N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF)) instead of metal salt solution as the electrolyte. Usually the fractal structures can be formed in the electrochemical deposition (ECD) process. When an external resistor is introduced in the ECD circuit, instead of fractal structures, silver nanoscale wires and dendrites can be obtained between two electrodes in situ in the Si chip. The diameters of the silver nanowires are about 40-200 nm and the electric properties of the silver nanowire with a diameter about 100 nm have been measured. We have proposed a possible formation mechanism for these silver nanoscale wires and dendrites.

Abstract:We have developed a facile and compatible method to in situ fabricate uniform metal nanowire networks on substrates. The as-fabricated metal nanowire networks show low sheet resistance and high transmittance (2.2 Ω sq(-1) at T = 91.1%), which is equivalent to that of the state-of-the-art metal nanowire networks. We demonstrated that the transmittance of the metal networks becomes homogeneous from deep-ultraviolet (200 nm) to near-infrared (2000 nm) when the size of the wire spacing increases to micrometer size. Theoretical and experimental analyses indicated that we can improve the conductivity of the metal networks as well as keep their transmittance by increasing the thickness of the metal films. We also carried out durability tests to demonstrate our as-fabricated metal networks having good flexibility and strong adhesion.

Abstract:Constructing conductive/magnetic nanowire arrays with 3D features by electrodeposition remains challenging. An unprecedented fabrication approach that allows to construct metallic (cobalt) nanowires on an arbitrarily shaped surface is reported. The spatial separation of nanowires varies from 70 to 3000 nm and the line width changes from 50 to 250 nm depending on growth conditions.

Abstract:For the feasibility discussion of metal ion reduction induced by the femtosecond laser two-photon absorption of organic polymer materials, the experiments are taken in silver nitrate and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) film which mixed by the molar ratio of 1:1. In the developed two-photon fabrication system, a single line with the width of 25 μm and a 4 mm × 0.4 mm plate were fabricated. The X-ray photoelectron spectrum reveals that the main element in the product is silver, and the range of resistivity from 10 -3 to 10 -5 Ωm is calculated by measuring the resistance. The result shows that using two-photon induced reduction of metal ions, the reaction region can be controlled well, and it is helpful for the conductive metallic microstructure fabrication.

Abstract:A novel template-assisted electrochemical approach to fabricate in-plane arrays of copper nanowires with tunable width varying from 25 nm to more than 200 nm, which is realized by successive nucleation of copper at the concave corner of the polymer template and the substrate, is reported.
