Abstract:Using high-sulfur Changguang coal for experimental purposes, tests concerning the influence of calcination temperature, the material's retention time and its way of preparation, as well as the atmosphere existing in the furnace etc. on the coproduction of Q-phase cement clinker, by pulverized coal fired boilers, were studied with the help of a double-stage polyphase reaction test rig. Results indicate that the most favorable calcination temperature, for co-producing Q-phase cement clinker, is 1330°C, which lies within the range of temperature existing in boiler furnaces. Keeping the retention time of the material within the range of 1-7s, a longer retention time interval is favorable for the Q-phase calcination process to proceed more thoroughly. On the other hand, to a certain degree, the finer granulation of coal and calcium based as well as other additives in the pulverized coal mixture and the larger the difference in sieve grade for granulation treatment, the easier the formation of cement clinker by minerals contained in coal reacting with CaO and MgO during the combustion of pulverized coal will proceed. Experiments with coal of high sulfur content show that the atmosphere existing in the furnace has a certain influence on the ratio of Q phase to 3CaO·3Al2O3·CaSO4 in the clinker.
