Abstract:Sintered deposits which showed corrosive tendencies on the heat transfer surfaces in a municipal-solid-waste(MSW)incinerator were collected and analysed with scanning electron microscope(SEM),ion exchange chromatogram(IEC),X-ray powder differaction(XRD).Based on the measurements, stress crack corrosion was proposed to be the essential mechanism of ash deposits corrosion.Stress impact of the sintered deposits and ion diffusion reaction of the chlorine in the deposits make the metal oxide films break and peel off little by little. The corrosive deposits are charactered by the frameworks of loose inner layer whereas compact outer layer, and the high chlorine content in both layers.Main minerals phase in the ash deposits is CaSO4.The ion of chlorine mainly exists as CaCl2 in deposits.Sulfation and other complex multiphase reactions are important reasons for solidification of the deposits.Defects on the metal surface due to the stress impact and loose fabric of the deposit bottom layer make corrosion reactions easier and quicker.
