Abstract:In recent years, there has been a tremendous growth of activity on multiscale modeling and computation. In particular, the multiscale hybrid numerical methods are those that combine multiple models defined at fundamentally different length and time scales within the same overall spatial and temporal domain. For examples, a framework of hybrid continuum and molecular dynamics multiscale method has been developed to simulate micro- and nanoscale fluid flows, which combines the continuum computational fluid dynamics (CFD) or the mesoscopic lattice Boltzmann method for the bulk flow region and the atomistic molecular dynamics for the interface region. The similar idea of constrained variation has also been used in developing multiscale fluid turbulent models for constrained dynamic subgrid-scale stress model, Reynolds stress constrained large eddy simulation (RSC-LES) for wall-bounded turbulent flows with massive separation and heat flux constrained large eddy simulation. For RSC-LES, our model is able to solve the traditional log-layer mismatch problem in RANS/LES approaches and can predict mean velocity, turbulent stress and skin friction coefficients more accurate than pure dynamic large eddy models and traditional detached eddy simulation using the same grid resolution. Our results demonstrate the capability of multiscale simulation methods for complex fluid systems and the necessity of physical constraints on the multiscale methods.

Abstract:Computational models and theoretical simulations have been evolved as powerful tools for the development, characterization, and validation of biomedical sensors. From biosensitive materials to detection techniques, various computational models and simulation software have been developed, such as molecular docking, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD), and randles models. With the help of the low-cost computational models, the sensitivity and specificity of the sensor can be pre-evaluated to improve the performance. They also provide a powerful technical means for analyzing the sensing results.

Abstract:In this paper, a simulation assistant teaching system for mathematical modeling course based on the characteristics of the teaching in the discipline of information and computational science is developed, The simulation assistant teaching system can import the typical cases of mathematical modeling into teaching practice by computer simulation technology, and visually simulate the mathematical modeling, the solution and the results presentation processes. By using this system, students can refine their thinking of mathematical modeling effectively, and learn with the teacher actively. The application results show that the developed simulation assistant teaching system is an effective way for teaching in mathematical modeling course.

Abstract:In this paper, the state-of-the-art parallel computational model research is reviewed. We will introduce various models that were developed during the past decades. According to their targeting architecture features, especially memory organization, we classify these parallel computational models into three generations. These models and their characteristics are discussed based on three generations classification. We believe that with the ever increasing speed gap between the CPU and memory systems, incorporating non-uniform memory hierarchy into computational models will become unavoidable. With the emergence of multi-core CPUs, the parallelism hierarchy of current computing platforms becomes more and more complicated. Describing this complicated parallelism hierarchy in future computational models becomes more and more important. A semi-automatic toolkit that can extract model parameters and their values on real computers can reduce the model analysis complexity, thus allowing more complicated models with more parameters to be adopted. Hierarchical memory and hierarchical parallelism will be two very important features that should be considered in future model design and research.

This issue compiles extensively revised and improved versions of the top papers from the workshop on Mathematical Modeling and Problem Solving at PDPTA'23, the 29th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Processing Techniques and Applications. Covering fundamental research in matrix operations and heuristic searches to real-world applications in computer vision and drug discovery, the issue underscores the crucial role of supercomputing and parallel and distributed computing infrastructure in research. Research on Heterogeneous Computation Resource Allocation based on Data-driven Method

Abstract:The rapid development of the mobile Internet and the Internet of Things is leading to a diversification of user devices and the emergence of new mobile applications on a regular basis. Such applications include those that are computationally intensive, such as pattern recognition, interactive gaming, virtual reality, and augmented reality. However, the computing and energy resources available on the user's equipment are limited, which presents a challenge in effectively supporting such demanding applications. In this work, we propose a heterogeneous computing resource allocation model based on a data-driven approach. The model first collects and analyzes historical workload data at scale, extracts key features, and builds a detailed data set. Then, a data-driven deep neural network is used to predict future resource requirements. Based on the prediction results, the model adopts a dynamic adjustment and optimization resource allocation strategy. This strategy not only fully considers the characteristics of different computing resources, but also accurately matches the requirements of various tasks, and realizes dynamic and flexible resource allocation, thereby greatly improving the overall performance and resource utilization of the system. Experimental results show that the proposed method is significantly better than the traditional resource allocation method in a variety of scenarios, demonstrating its excellent accuracy and adaptability.

Abstract:A general scheme is given for supercomputer simulation of quantum processes, which are described by various modifications of finite-dimensional cavity quantum electrodynamics models, including Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard model and Tavis-Cummings-Hubbard model. Conclusions and recommendations are illustrated using two examples: approximate model of hydrogen bonding and model of photon motion on a two-dimensional plane.

Abstract:In this paper, we put forward a model for distributed computation over Internet, which enables diversified and geographically located computational resources to be aggregated into a powerful computation entity to provide computational services. It can also integrate software resources on computers to run user' s applications. The overall model architecture, our efforts in key issues in building such a distributed environment (including resource management, resource discovery and selection as well as programming model) are presented. A prototype has been constructed and two representative applications are also developed.

Abstract:Modeling tsunami wave propagation is a very challenging numerical task, because it involves many facets: Such as the formation of various types of waves and the impingement of these waves on the coast. We will discuss the different levels of approximations made in numerical modeling of 2-D and 3-D tsunami waves and their relative difficulties. In this paper new attempts are proposed to evaluate the hazards of tsunami’s and visualization of large-scale numerical results generated from tsunami simulations. Specialized low-level computer language, based on a parallel computing environment, is also employed here for generating FORTRAN source code for finite elements. This code can then be run very efficiently in parallel on distributed computing systems. We will also discuss the need to study tsunami waves with modern software and visualization hardware.

Abstract:Mathematical modeling is gaining more and more attention because of its extensive application.The optimization model is one of the most commonly used models.Firstly,this paper introduces the three elements of the optimization model,the general establishment of steps and classifications.Then,according to the classification criteria,this paper lists several subjects using the optimization model from Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling since 2000.According to the classification standard of decision variables and objective functions,the subject of application of integer programming,dynamic programming and multi-objective programming are analyzed and a specific example of them is given.At the same time,the solution of the optimization model is simply introduced.Finally,we summarized up the application of optimization model in mathematical modeling.
