Abstract:We develop a novel decoupling inequality for nonhomogeneous order 2 non-Gaussian chaoses. Having this decoupling inequality, we show two types of the p-th moment bounds for the suprema of a log-concave-tailed chaos process based on some chaining techniques and the generalized majorizing measure theorems for canonical processes. As applications, we show the restricted isometry property of partial random circulant matrices and time-frequency structured random matrices induced by standard α-subexponential vectors, 1≤α≤ 2, which extends the previously known results for the sub-Gaussian case.

Abstract:We prove that a nonrenormalizable smooth unimodal interval map with critical order between 1 and 2 displays decay of geometry, by an elementary and purely "real" argument. This completes a "real" approach to Milnor's attractor problem for smooth unimodal maps with critical order not greater than 2.

Abstract:Given a non-flat S-unimodal interval map f, we show that there exists C which only depends on the order of the critical point c such that if |Df n (f(c))|≥C for all n sufficiently large, then f admits an absolutely continuous invariant probability measure (acip). As part of the proof we show that if the quotients of successive intervals of the principal nest of f are sufficiently small, then f admits an acip. As a special case, any S-unimodal map with critical order ℓ<2+ɛ having no central returns possesses an acip. These results imply that the summability assumptions in the theorems of Nowicki & van Strien [21] and Martens & Nowicki [17] can be weakened considerably.

Abstract:We show that the topological entropy is monotonic for unimodal interval maps which are obtained from the restriction of quadratic rational maps with real coefficients. This is done by ruling out the existence of certain post-critical curves in the moduli space of aforementioned maps, and confirms a conjecture made in [Fil19] based on experimental evidence.

Abstract:We consider piecewise $C^2$ non-flat maps of the interval and show that, for Lebesgue almost every point, its omega-limit set is either a periodic orbit, a cycle of intervals or the closure of the orbits of a subset of the critical points. In particular, every piecewise $C^2$ non-flat map of the interval displays only a finite number of non-periodic attractors.

Abstract:We consider a class of interval maps with up to two indifferent fixed points, an unbounded derivative, and regularly varying tails. Under some mild assumptions, we prove the existence of a unique mixing absolutely continuous invariant measure and give conditions under which the measure is finite. Moreover, in the finite measure case, we give a formula for the measure-theoretical entropy and upper bounds for a very slow decay of correlations. This extends former work by Coates, Luzzatto, and Muhammad to maps with regularly varying tails. Particularly, we investigate the boundary case where the behaviour of the slowly varying function decides on the finiteness of the measure and on the decay of correlations.

Abstract:We study C^2 weakly order preserving circle maps with a flat interval. In particular we are interested in the geometry of the mapping near to the singularities at the boundary of the flat interval. Without any assumption on the rotation number we show that the geometry is degenerate when the degree of the singularities is less than or equal to two and becomes bounded when the degree goes to three. As an example of application, the result is applied to study Cherry flows.

Abstract:One-dimensional maps exhibiting transient chaos and defined on two preimages of the unit interval [0,1] are investigated. It is shown that such maps have continuously many conditionally invariant measures $\mu_{\sigma}$ scaling at the fixed point at x=0 as $x^{\sigma}$, but smooth elsewhere. Here $\sigma$ should be smaller than a critical value $\sigma_{c}$ that is related to the spectral properties of the Frobenius-Perron operator. The corresponding natural measures are proven to be entirely concentrated on the fixed point.

Abstract:We derive new variants of the quantitative Borel--Cantelli lemma and apply them to analysis of statistical properties for some dynamical systems. We consider intermittent maps of $(0,1]$ which have absolutely continuous invariant probability measures. In particular, we prove that every sequence of intervals with left endpoints uniformly separated from zero is the strong Borel--Cantelli sequence with respect to such map and invariant measure.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamics of a smooth multimodal interval map f with non-flat critical points and all periodic points hyperbolic repelling. Assuming that |Df n (f(c))|→∞ as n→∞ holds for all critical points c, we show that f satisfies the so-called backward contracting property with an arbitrarily large constant, and that f has an invariant probability μ which is absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure and the density of μ belongs to L p for all p<ℓ max /(ℓ max -1), where ℓ max denotes the maximal critical order of f. In the appendix, we prove that various growth conditions on the derivatives along the critical orbits imply stronger backward contraction.
