Abstract:In this short note, we investigate non-invertible stochastic dynamical systems on the unit interval $[0, 1]$. We provide a handy condition for unique ergodicity for systems that are injective in mean. On the other hand, we give concrete examples where unique ergodicity fails.

Abstract:We study the uniform ergodicity property for non-invertible topological and measure-preserving dynamical systems. It is shown that for topological dynamical systems uniform ergodicity is equivalent to eventually periodicity and that for measure preserving systems it is equivalent to periodicity. To obtain our results, we prove a result on the long-term behavior of lattice homomorphisms that have $1$ isolated in its spectrum.

Abstract:We identify two broad types of noninvertibilities in quantum dynamical maps, one necessarily associated with CP indivisibility and one not so. We study the production of (non-)Markovian, invertible maps by the process of mixing noninvertible Pauli maps, and quantify the fraction of the same. The memory kernel perspective appears to be less transparent on the issue of invertibility than the approaches based on maps or master equations. Here we consider a related and potentially helpful issue: the identification of criteria of parameterized families of maps leading to the existence of a well-defined semigroup limit.

Abstract:We establish the existence of Lebesgue-equivalent conservative and ergodic σ -finite invariant measures for a wide class of one-dimensional random maps consisting of piecewise convex maps. We also estimate the size of invariant measures around a small neighbourhood of a fixed point where the invariant density functions may diverge. Application covers random intermittent maps with critical points or flat points. We also illustrate that the size of invariant measures tends to infinite for random maps whose right branches exhibit a strongly contracting property on average, so that they have a strong recurrence to a fixed point.

Abstract:We study a random dynamical system such that one transformation is randomly selected from a family of transformations and then applied on each iteration. For such random dynamical systems, we consider estimates of absolutely continuous invariant measures. Since the random dynamical systems are made by complicated compositions of many deterministic maps and probability density functions, it is difficult to estimate the invariant measures. To get rid of this difficulty, we present fundamental comparison theorems which make easier the estimates of invariant measures of random maps. We also demonstrate how to apply the comparison theorems to random maps with indifferent fixed points and/or with unbounded derivatives.

Abstract:In this paper we study the ergodic theory of a class of symbolic dynamical systems $(\O, T, \mu)$ where $T:{\O}\to \O$ the left shift transformation on $\O=\prod_0^\infty\{0,1\}$ and $\mu$ is a $\s$-finite $T$-invariant measure having the property that one can find a real number $d$ so that $\mu(\tau^d)=\infty$ but $\mu(\tau^{d-\epsilon})<\infty$ for all $\epsilon >0$, where $\tau$ is the first passage time function in the reference state 1. In particular we shall consider invariant measures $\mu$ arising from a potential $V$ which is uniformly continuous but not of summable variation. If $d>0$ then $\mu$ can be normalized to give the unique non-atomic equilibrium probability measure of $V$ for which we compute the (asymptotically) exact mixing rate, of order $n^{-d}$. We also establish the weak-Bernoulli property and a polynomial cluster property (decay of correlations) for observables of polynomial variation. If instead $d\leq 0$ then $\mu$ is an infinite measure with scaling rate of order $n^d$. Moreover, the analytic properties of the weighted dynamical zeta function and those of the Fourier transform of correlation functions are shown to be related to one another via the spectral properties of an operator-valued power series which naturally arises from a standard inducing procedure. A detailed control of the singular behaviour of these functions in the vicinity of their non-polar singularity at $z=1$ is achieved through an approximation scheme which uses generating functions of a suitable renewal process. In the perspective of differentiable dynamics, these are statements about the unique absolutely continuous invariant measure of a class of piecewise smooth interval maps with an indifferent fixed point.

Abstract:Abstract A natural generalization of interval exchange maps are linear involutions, first introduced by Danthony and Nogueira [Measured foliations on non-orientable surfaces. Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 26 (6) (1993), 645–664]. Recurrent train tracks with a single switch provide a subclass of linear involutions. We call such linear involutions non-classical interval exchanges. They are related to measured foliations on orientable flat surfaces. Non-classical interval exchanges can be studied as a dynamical system by considering Rauzy induction in this context. This gives a refinement process on the parameter space similar to Kerckhoff’s simplicial systems. We show that the refinement process gives an expansion that has a key dynamical property called uniform distortion . We use uniform distortion to prove normality of the expansion. Consequently, we prove an analog of Keane’s conjecture: almost every non-classical interval exchange is uniquely ergodic. Uniform distortion has been independently shown in [A. Avila and M. Resende. Abstract:Let $(W,H,\mu)$ be the classical Wiener space, assume that $U=I_W+u$ is an adapted perturbation of identity where the perturbation $u$ is an equivalence class <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://w.r.to" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> the Wiener measure. We study several necessary and sufficient conditions for the almost sure invertibility of such maps. In particular the subclass of these maps who preserve the Wiener measure are characterized in terms of the corresponding innovation processes. We give the following application: let $U$ be invertible and let $\tau$ be stopping time. Define $U^\tau$ as $I_W+u^\tau$ where $u^\tau$ is given by $$ u^\tau(t,w)=\int_0^t 1_{[0,\tau(w)]}(s)\dot{u}_s(w)ds\,. $$ We prove that $U^\tau$ is also almost surely invertible. Note that this has immediate applications to stochastic differential equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider random dynamical systems formed by concatenating maps acting on the unit interval in an independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) fashion. Considered as a stationary Markov process, the random dynamical system possesses a unique stationary measure . We consider a class of non-square-integrable observables , mostly of form , where is a non-recurrent point (in particular a non-periodic point) satisfying some other genericity conditions and, more generally, regularly varying observables with index . The two types of maps we concatenate are a class of piecewise expanding maps and a class of intermittent maps possessing an indifferent fixed point at the origin. Under conditions on the dynamics and , we establish Poisson limit laws, convergence of scaled Birkhoff sums to a stable limit law, and functional stable limit laws in both the annealed and quenched case. The scaling constants for the limit laws for almost every quenched realization are the same as those of the annealed case and determined by . This is in contrast to the scalings in quenched central limit theorems where the centering constants depend in a critical way upon the realization and are not the same for almost every realization.

Abstract:The famous Bernoulli shift (or dyadic transformation) is perhaps the simplest deterministic dynamical system exhibiting chaotic dynamics. It is a piecewise linear time-discrete map on the unit interval with a uniform slope larger than one, hence expanding, with a positive Lyapunov exponent and a uniform invariant density. If the slope is less than one the map becomes contracting, the Lyapunov exponent is negative, and the density trivially collapses onto a fixed point. Sampling from these two different types of maps at each time step by randomly selecting the expanding one with probability $p$, and the contracting one with probability $1-p$, gives a prototype of a random dynamical system. Here we calculate the invariant density of this simple random map, as well as its position autocorrelation function, analytically and numerically under variation of $p$. We find that the map exhibits a non-trivial transition from fully chaotic to completely regular dynamics by generating a long-time anomalous dynamics at a critical sampling probability $p_c$, defined by a zero Lyapunov exponent. This anomalous dynamics is characterised by an infinite invariant density, weak ergodicity breaking and power law correlation decay.

Abstract:In this work we study the necessary and sufficient conditions for a positive random variable whose expectation under the Wiener measure is one, to be represented as the Radon-Nikodym derivative of the image of the Wiener measure under an adapted perturbation of identity with the help of the associated innovation process. We prove that the innovation conjecture holds if and only if the original process is almost surely invertible. We also give variational characterizations of the invertibility of the perturbations of identity and the representability of a positive random variable whose total mass is equal to unity. We prove in particular that an adapted perturbation of identity $U=I_W+u$ satisfying the Girsanov theorem, is invertible if and only if the kinetic energy of $u$ is equal to the entropy of the measure induced with the action of $U$ on the Wiener measure $\mu$, in other words $U$ is invertible iff $$ \half \int_W|u|_H^2d\mu=\int_W \frac{dU\mu}{d\mu}\log\frac{dU\mu}{d\mu}d\mu >. $$ otherwise the l.h.s. is always strictly greater than the r.h.s. The relations with the Monge-Kantorovitch measure transportation are also studied. An application of these results to a variational problem related to large deviations is also given.

Abstract:We study a random map $T$ which consists of intermittent maps $\{T_{k}\}_{k=1}^{K}$ and a position dependent probability distribution $\{p_{k,\varepsilon}(x)\}_{k=1}^{K}$. We prove existence of a unique absolutely continuous invariant measure (ACIM) for the random map $T$. Moreover, we show that, as $\varepsilon$ goes to zero, the invariant density of the random system $T$ converges in the $L^{1}$-norm to the invariant density of the deterministic intermittent map $T_{1}$. The outcome of this paper contains a first result on stochastic stability, in the strong sense, of intermittent maps.

The fluctuation orbits of this infinite dimensional dynamical system are classified in terms of growth rates of the total variations of iterates of the corresponding interval map. As an application, the fluctuation solutions of one-dimensional wave equation with a Van der Pol boundary condition are considered.

Abstract:We consider a class of interval maps with up to two indifferent fixed points, an unbounded derivative, and regularly varying tails. Under some mild assumptions, we prove the existence of a unique mixing absolutely continuous invariant measure and give conditions under which the measure is finite. Moreover, in the finite measure case, we give a formula for the measure-theoretical entropy and upper bounds for a very slow decay of correlations. This extends former work by Coates, Luzzatto, and Muhammad to maps with regularly varying tails. Particularly, we investigate the boundary case where the behaviour of the slowly varying function decides on the finiteness of the measure and on the decay of correlations.
