Abstract:A multi-end-pumped nonplanar ring laser with a two-mirror resonator has been demonstrated. Two important parameters of the beam loops are described, and simulation diagrams of the beam loops are shown. Using an output coupler with a fan-shaped distribution in reflectivity, multi-end-pumped operation with the output beam from a single point has been achieved, and the experimental results show that the laser could be multi-end-pumped to reduce thermal effects and multiply the fracture limit of the laser crystal.

Abstract:A novel multi-end-pumped nonplanar ring Nd:YAG laser with two-mirror cavity, was demonstrated. A model was developed for attaining all beam loop modes of the laser cavity and calculating the mirror separation of each mode. With single-diode laser pumping, the operations of different modes at 1.064 mu m were performed and the experimental results are in excellent agreement with the model. Using three laser diodes as the pumping sources led to over threefold increase in output power.

Abstract:A multi-end-pumped two-mirrors nonplanar ring laser with output on single point was demonstrated.The beam propagated along a nonplanar loop within the cavity consisting of two mirrors,one of which was coated on the curved surface of the laser crystal.The laser provides the capability in being easily multi-end-pumped to reduce thermal induced effects and scale output power.Two important parameters of beam loops were described,and simulation diagrams of the beam loops were shown.Using the output coupler with the fan-shaped distribution of reflectivity,the output on single point was achieved.Double-end-pumped operations of different modes with output on single point were performed and the experimental results were given.

Abstract:A new type nonplanar ring laser,which consists of only two spherical mirrors,was presented and analyzed.One of the mirrors is coated on the curved surface of the laser crystal,so a more compact cavity is formed.The laser beam is reflected several times on the same cavity mirror in a round trip to provide the possibility to be multi-end-pumped,which can significantly reduce the thermal effect for a given total pumping power.The modes of the nonplanar ring laser were given and the mirror separations of different modes were calculated and the beam paths were simulated.Operations of different modes were performed and the experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical model.

Abstract:The diode laser pumped ring resonator was performed in one direction with an auxiliary mirror. With an AOM (acoustic-optical modulator) as a Q-switch, the laser pulse of 200ns in duration and 600 ��J in output energy was obtained. The laser pulse form is more smooth than the pulse form in linear resonator, because there are no stand wave notes in the resonator and therefore no hole burning effect. The coherence length over 1m was measured at the repetition rate of 100Hz. It has been used in a phase conjugate MOPA (Master-Oscillator Power Amplifier) system as an laser oscillator.

Abstract:A completely new type of solid-state round travelling-wave laser was presented. The resonator consists of only two concave mirrors and one of them is coated on the curved surface of the laser material. Between the mirrors the laser beam travelled in a closed 3-dimensional loop.Oscillations of many kinds of round travelling-wave laser modes have been observed , and lasers pumped at two defferent points on the active material have been developed. The experimental results indicates that the novel laser has most simple structure and very stable output. Using this design, high-efficient laser, single-frequency laser and mode-locked laser with short cavity length can be developed.

Abstract:In this paper, output characteristics of single-longitudinal-mode Ho: YLF ring laser are firstly investigated in double corner cubes configuration. Single-longitudinal-mode laser output is realized by a faraday rotator and a half-wave plate, and an F-P etalon is inserted into the cavity to realize wavelength tuning. The principle of unidirectional operation of the Ho: YLF ring laser with double corner cubes is firstly analyzed with the method of optic matrix and transition matrix. A highest single-longitudinal-mode power of 733 mW at 2065.68 nm is achieved and the slope efficiency is 12%. The tunable range is about 238 GHz and M-2 factor is 1.21. The results show that the single-longitudinal-mode Ho: YLF ring cavity with double corner cubes is a potential way to improve the misalignment sensitivity.

Abstract:Diode pumped monolithic nonplanar ring laser has the advantages of compactness, reliability and high efficiency. When it is placed in a magnetic field, a unidirectional traveling wave can be obtained with a high power single-frequency output. 270 mW single-frequency TEM 00 output was obtained from a Nd:YAG monolithic nonplanar ring laser. The working principles of this kind of laser were discussed, and two kinds of new nonplanar ring cavities were proposed. Because of the similarity of the working principles, these kinds of nonplanar ring cavities are called the pan-triangle nonplanar unidirectional ring cavity.

Abstract:A widely wavelength tunable semiconductor laser based on two cascaded half-wave-coupled rectangular ring resonators is demonstrated. Vernier effect between two rectangular rings with perimeter of 281 and 305 mu m is employed to enlarge the tuning range. Simple fabrication process is used with all active waveguides. No epitaxial regrowth, grating, or high-resolution lithography is needed. By adjusting the injection currents applied to the cascaded rectangular rings synchronously, wavelength tuning of 35 channels with 100 GHz spacing is achieved with side mode suppression ratio up to 40.5 dB.

Abstract:Multi-wavelength conversion was simultaneously achieved by using nonlinear optical loop mirror. The maximum separation of the wavelength conversion between the control laser and signal laser is larger than 25 nm. The gain-switched distributed feed-back laser-diode is used as the control light with a pulse width of 20 ps, and the spectrum-sliced fiber amplifier light source is used for the signal lasers with multi-wavelength output. The performance of the converted signal with different wavelength depends on the control optical power or the direction of the polarization controller in the mirror.

Abstract:We design and demonstrate a thermally stable four-mirror discrete-component planar ring cavity for Q-switched laser output. An 880 nm fiber-coupled laser diode is used to pump a-cut Nd:YVO4 directly. A magnetic rotation glass (MR3-2) inserted into a permanent cylinder magnet, in combination with a half-wave plate and the polarized emission properties of Nd: YVO4, is used to obtain unidirectional laser operation. With this setup, for a pump power of 5 W, 2.75 W of continuous 1064 nm single-frequency laser output is obtained. Next, a Cr:YAG with small signal transmittance of 75% is inserted in between the two concave mirrors where the beam waist is located. Consequently, a passive Q-switching single-frequency linear polarization pulse with an average power of 1.02 W, pulse width of 60 ns, frequency of 21 kHz, peak power of 810 W, and single-pulse energy of 48 mu J is obtained. Further, we also propose a new method of using a Fabry-Perot (FP) scanning interferometer to observe high-repetition rate Q-switched pulse output longitudinal-mode signals. Abstract:We put forward a novel non-planar single-frequency ring laser, which consists of a corner cube prism and a specially cut Porro prism made by Nd:YAG crystal. The relative angle between the corner cube and the Porro prism could be adjusted to control the output coupling of the laser resonator and the polarization-state of the output laser. A 1.06 μm single-frequency laser with 1 W output has been obtained.

Abstract:A single-longitudinal-mode Ho:YLF unidirectional ring laser with single anti-misalignment corner cube retro-flector (CCR) for providing the stable local oscillator to 2.05 mu m laser lidar was demonstrated in this paper. The single-longitudinal-mode output power of 569 mW at 2051.76 nm was obtained by inserting a half-wave plate and a Faraday rotator to the ring oscillator. The output wavelength was tuned from 2050.94 nm to 2054.18 nm through a 0.3-mm-thick F-P etalon, which close to the free spectrum range of the etalon. In addition, the anti-misalignment characteristic of the unidirectional ring laser was investigated when the single CCR moved along the optical axis and perpendicular to the optical axis. The beam quality factors M2 of the Ho:YLF single-longitudinal-mode laser were 1.05 in the x direction and 1.02 in the y direction, respectively.

Abstract:An efficient 2 mu m in-band pumped Ho:YAG laser was demonstrated. The resonator involves two Ho:YAG crystals, each of which was dual-end-pumped by two orthogonally polarized diode-pumped Tm:YLF lasers. The maximum continuous wave output power of 103 W was achieved, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 67.8% with respect to the incident pump power and an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 63.5%. Under Q-switched mode, we obtained 101 W laser output at 30 kHz, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 66.2%. The beam quality or M-2 factor was found to be less than 2. Abstract:We demonstrate a single-longitudinal-mode Ho3+: YVO4 unidirectional ring laser based on the acousto-optic effect, utilizing the features of the acousto-optical Q switch and half-wave plate to achieve unidirectional operation. The maximum power achieved in the single-longitudinal-mode at 2053.9 nm is 941 mW when the absorbed power is set as 4.4 W, yielding a nearly 50% slope efficiency. The M-2 factor is 1.1. The results show that such a technique offers a potentially promising new method for achieving a high power and narrow linewidth 2 mu m single-longitudinal-mode laser.
