Abstract:In this paper, the classical Lie group approach is extended to find some Lie point symmetries of differential-difference equations. It reveals that. the obtained Lie point symmetries can constitute a Kac-Moody-Virasoro algebra.

Abstract:We obtain the Lie symmetries of two (2+1)-dimensional differential-difference equations based on the extended Harrison and Estabrook's geometric approach that is extended from the continuous differential equations to the differential-difference equations. Abstract:Within the framework of inverse Lie problem, we give some non-trivial examples of coupled Lie remarkable equations, \textit{i.e.}, classes of differential equations that are in correspondence with their Lie point symmetries. In particular, we determine hierarchies of second order partial differential equations uniquely characterized by affine transformations of $\mathbb{R}^{n+m}$, and a system of two third order partial differential equations in two independent variables uniquely determined by the Lie algebra of projective transformations of $\mathbb{R}^4$.

Abstract:Based on the extended Harrison and Estabrook's differential form method, we obtain the Lie symmetries of two (2+1)-dimensional Toda-like lattices from two different sets of differential forms, respectively. Abstract:Here we present a new approach to compute symmetries of rational second order ordinary differential equations (rational 2ODEs). This method can compute Lie symmetries (point symmetries, dynamical symmetries and non-local symmetries) algorithmically. The procedure is based on an idea arising from the formal equivalence between the total derivative operator and the vector field associated with the 2ODE over its solutions (Cartan vector field). Basically, from the formal representation of a Lie symmetry it is possible to extract information that allows to use this symmetry practically (in the 2ODE integration process) even in cases where the formal operation cannot be performed, i.e., in cases where the symmetry is nonlocal. Furthermore, when the 2ODE in question depends on parameters, the procedure allows an analysis that determines the regions of the parameter space in which the integrable cases are located.

Abstract:Lie symmetries for ordinary differential equations are studied. In systems of ordinary differential equations, there do not always exist non-trivial Lie symmetries around equilibrium points. We present a necessary condition for existence of Lie symmetries analytic in the neighbourhood of an equilibrium point. In addition, this result can be applied to a necessary condition for existence of a Lie symmetry in quasihomogeneous systems of ordinary differential equations. With the help of our main theorem, it is proved that several systems do not possess any analytic Lie symmetries.

Abstract:Preliminary group classification of the nonlinear differential–difference equations of the form ün=Fn(t,un−1,un,un+1) is considered by using the classical infinitesimal Lie method and the theory of classification of abstract low-dimensional Lie algebras. Restrict to Lie point symmetries, and assume that the Lie algebra of the symmetry group is realized by a particular vector field. It is proved that there is only one equation admitting three-dimensional simple Lie algebras. What is more, all the inequivalent equations admitting semi-simple Lie algebras are nothing but the one. Also there exist inequivalent equations admitting low-dimensional solvable Lie algebras and semi-direct sums of semi-simple and solvable Lie algebras.

The point-symmetry pseudogroup of this system is computed using an original megaideal-based version of the algebraic method. A number of meticulously selected differential constraints allow us to construct families of exact solutions of this system, which are significantly larger than all known ones. After classifying one- and two-dimensional subalgebras of the entire (infinite-dimensional) maximal Lie invariance algebra of this system, we study only its essential Lie reductions, which give solutions beyond the above solution families. Among reductions of the Boiti–Leon–Pempinelli system using differential constraints or Lie symmetries, we identify a number of famous partial and ordinary differential equations. We also show how all the constructed solution families can significantly be extended by Laplace and Darboux transformations.

Abstract:We consider higher symmetries and operator symmetries of linear partial differential equations. The higher symmetries form a Lie algebra, and operator ones form an associative algebra. The relationship between these symmetries is established. We show that symmetries of linear equations sometimes generate symmetries of nonlinear ones. New symmetries of two-dimensional stationary equations of gas dynamics are found.

Abstract:Lie symmetry analysis is one of the powerful tools to analyze nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We review the effectiveness of this method in terms of various symmetries. We present the method of deriving Lie point symmetries, contact symmetries, hidden symmetries, nonlocal symmetries, $\lambda$-symmetries, adjoint symmetries and telescopic vector fields of a second-order ordinary differential equation. We also illustrate the algorithm involved in each method by considering a nonlinear oscillator equation as an example. The connections between (i) symmetries and integrating factors and (ii) symmetries and integrals are also discussed and illustrated through the same example. The interconnections between some of the above symmetries, that is (i) Lie point symmetries and $\lambda$-symmetries and (ii) exponential nonlocal symmetries and $\lambda$-symmetries are also discussed. The order reduction procedure is invoked to derive the general solution of the second-order equation.

Abstract:The Lie symmetries of a large class of generalized Toda field theories are studied and used to perform symmetry reduction. Reductions lead to generalized Toda lattices on one hand, to periodic systems on the other. Boundary conditions are introduced to reduce theories on an infinite lattice to those on semi-infinite, or finite ones.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the differential form method to seek Lie point symmetries of a (2+1)-dimensional Camassa–Holm (CH) system based on its Lax pair. Then we reduce both the system and its Lax pair with the obtained symmetries, as a result some reduced (1+1)-dimensional equations with their new Lax pairs are presented. At last, the conservation laws for the CH system are derived from a direct method.
