Abstract:The QCD vacuum condensates and various vacuum susceptibilities are all important parameters which characterize the nonperturbative properties of the QCD vacuum. In the QCD sum rules external field formula, various QCD vacuum susceptibilities play important roles in determining the properties of hadrons. In this paper, we review the recent progress in studies of vacuum susceptibilities together with their applications to the chiral phase transition of QCD. The results of the tensor, the vector, the axial-vector, the scalar, and the pseudo-scalar vacuum susceptibilities are shown in detail in the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equations.

Abstract:We develop a kind of quantum formalism (Hilbert space probabilistic calculus) for measurements performed over cognitive (in particular, conscious) systems. By using this formalism we could predict averages of cognitive observables. Reflecting the basic idea of neurophisiological and psychological studies on a hierarchic structure of cognitive processes, we use p-adic hierarchic trees as a mathematical model of a mental space. We also briefly discuss the general problem of the choice of adequate mental geometry.

Abstract:In quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the scalar susceptibility represents the modification of the quark condensate, to a small perturbation of the parameter responsible for the explicit breaking of the symmetry, i.e., the current quark mass. By studying the linear response of the dressed quark propagator to the presence of a nonzero quark mass, we derive a model-independent formula for the scalar susceptibility, which contains the dressed quark propagator G(p) and the dressed scalar vertex Γ(p, 0). The numerical values of the scalar susceptibility χs are calculated within the framework of the rainbow-ladder approximation of the Dyson-Schwinger approach by employing two typical forms of model gluon propagator.

Abstract:Since the baryon-number susceptibilities are correlated with the cumulant of baryon-number fluctuations in experiments, we do calculations of the susceptibilities and compare them with the experimental fluctuation data under the framework of the Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs) approach. We compare our results with lattice QCD and experimental data at RHIC. The fitness of the results indicates that under the framework of DSEs, we can deal with the problems of heavy ion collisions properly.

Abstract:Using a recently developed three-point formalism within the method of QCD Sum Rules we determine the vacuum susceptibilities needed in the two-point formalism for the coupling of axial, vector, tensor and pseudoscalar currents to hadrons. All susceptibilities are determined by the space-time scale of condensates, which is estimated from data for deep inelastic scattering on nucleons.

From this we extract a general expression for the vacuum susceptibility which is needed in the QCD sum rule external field method for the coupling of tensor current to hadrons and compare it with the previous approaches. Abstract:Based on the quark propagator in the instanton dilute liquid approximation, we have determined the nonlocal four-quark condensate at the mean-field level in the framework of global color symmetry model. By making use of this formula, the vacuum susceptibility (pionsusceptibility) was calculated in this paper. The theoretical analysis and numerical calculation show that even at the mean-field level the naive vacuum saturation approximation is not a good approximation when we consider nonlocal four-quark condensate.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend the calculation of tensor vacuum susceptibility in the rainbow-ladder approximation of the Dyson–Schwinger (DS) approach in Shi et al. (Phys Lett B 639:248, 2006) to that of employing the Ball–Chiu (BC) vertex. The dressing effect of the quark-gluon vertex on the tensor vacuum susceptibility is investigated. Our results show that compared with its rainbow-ladder approximation value, the tensor vacuum susceptibility obtained in the BC vertex approximation is reduced by about 10%. This shows that the dressing effect of the quark-gluon vertex is not large in the calculation of the tensor vacuum susceptibility in the DS approach.

Abstract:We calculate the chiral and thermal susceptibilities for two confining Dyson-Schwinger equation models of QCD with two light flavors, a quantitative analysis of which yields the critical exponents beta and delta that characterize the second-order chiral symmetry restoration transition. The method itself is of interest, minimizing the influence of numerical noise in the calculation of the order parameter for chiral symmetry breaking near the critical temperature. For the more realistic of the two models we estimate T-C approximate to 153 MeV and the non-mean-field values beta = 0.46 +/- 0.04, delta = 4.3 +/- 0.3, and 1/(beta delta) = 0.54 +/- 0.05, which we discuss in comparison with the results of other models.

Abstract:We derive a novel model-independent result for the pion susceptibility in QCD via the isovector-pseudoscalar vacuum polarization. In the neighbourhood of the chiral limit, the pion susceptibility can be expressed as a sum of two independent terms. The first expresses the pion-pole contribution. The second is identical to the vacuum chiral susceptibility, which describes the response of QCD's ground state to a fluctuation in the current-quark mass. In this result one finds a straightforward explanation of a mismatch between extant estimates of the pion susceptibility.

Abstract:We re-investigate the vector and axial-vector vacuum susceptibilities by taking advantage of the vector and axial-vector Ward–Takahashi identities. We show analytically that, in the chiral limit, the vector vacuum susceptibility is zero and the axial-vector vacuum susceptibility equals three fourths of the square of the pion decay constant. Besides, our analysis reproduces the Weinberg sum rule.
