Analytical Trial Function Method for Developing a Triangular Thick Plate Element Based on a Thin Plate Element

Abstract:The analytical trial function method was used to extend the existing Kirchhoff triangular thin plate element, to the corresponding lock-free Mindlin triangular thick plate element. The triangular thin plate element GPL-T9 was used as the example to be generalized to the thick/thin plate element GPLM. Numerical results show that the GPLM element not only degenerates to the original thin plate element as the plate thickness goes to zero with automatically eliminates shear locking but also provides high accuracy and excellent performance as either thin or thick plate elements.
