Abstract:The authors show that the self-similar set for a finite family of contractive similitudes (similaxities, i.e., \f(i)(x) - f(i)(y)\ = a(i)\x - y\, x,y is an element of R-N, where 0 < ai < 1) is uniformly perfect except the case that it is a singleton. As a corollary, it is proved that this self-similar set has positive Hausdorff dimension provided that it is not a singleton. And a lower bound of the upper box dimension of the uniformly perfect sets is given: Meanwhile the uniformly perfect set with Hausdorff measure zero in its Hausdorff dimension is given.

Abstract:Let ℱ be a family of subsets of [n]={1,…,n} and let L be a set of nonnegative integers. The family ℱ is L-intersecting if |F∩ F'|∈ L for every two distinct members F,F'∈ℱ; and ℱ is k-uniform if all its members have the same size k. A large variety of problems and results in extremal set theory concern on k-uniform L-intersecting families. Many attentions are paid to finding the maximum size of a family among all k-uniform L-intersecting families with prescribed n,k and L. In this paper, from another point of view, we propose and investigate the problem of estimating the maximum size of a member in a family among all uniform L-intersecting families with size m, here n,m and L are prescribed. Our results aim to find out more precise relations of n,m,k and L.

Abstract:The self-affine measure associated with an iterated function system and a weight is uniquely determined. The problem of determining whether a self-affine measure is absolutely continuous or singular has been studied extensively in recent years. In the present paper we consider the singularity of certain self-affine measures. We obtain a sufficient condition for such measures being singular. Two applications of this result are given, which extend several known results in a simple manner.

Abstract:Conditions are given which imply that analytic iterated function systems (IFS's) in the complex plane have uniformly perfect attractor sets. In particular, it is shown that the attractor set of a finitely generated conformal IFS is uniformly perfect when it contains two or more points. Also, an example of a finitely generated analytic attractor set which is not uniformly perfect is given.

Abstract:In this paper we consider affine iterated function systems in locally compact non-Archimedean field $\mathbb{F}$. We establish the theory of singular value composition in $\mathbb{F}$ and compute box and Hausdorff dimension of self-affine set in $\mathbb{F}^n$, in generic sense, which is an analogy of Falconer's result for real case. The result has the advantage that no additional assumptions needed to be imposed on the norms of linear parts of affine transformation while such norms are strictly less than $\frac{1}{2}$ for real case, which benefits from the non-Archimedean metric on $\mathbb{F}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study optimal parametrizations of the invariant sets of a single matrix graph IFS which is a generalization of the result of Rao and Zhang (2016). We show that the invariant sets of a linear single matrix GIFS which has a primitive associated matrix and satisfies the open set condition admit optimal parametrizations. This result is the basis of the further study of space-filling curves of self-affine sets.

Abstract:We consider affine iterated function systems in a locally compact non-Archimedean field F . We establish the theory of singular value decomposition in F and compute the box and Hausdorff dimensions of self-affine sets in F n , in generic sense, which is an analogy of Falconer's result for the real case. In R n , the box and Hausdorff dimensions of self-affine sets can be obtained only when the norms of linear parts of affine transformations are strictly less than 1 2 . However, in a locally compact non-Archimedean field, the same result can be obtained without the restriction of the norms.

Abstract:Two decades ago, Ngai and Wang introduced a well-known finite type condition (FTC) on the self-similar iterated function system (IFS) with overlaps and used it to calculate the Hausdorff dimension of self-similar sets. In this paper, inspired by Ngai and Wang's idea, we define a new FTC on self-affine IFS and obtain an analogous formula on the generalized dimensions of self-affine sets. The generalized dimensions raised by He and Lau are used to estimate the Hausdorff dimension of self-affine sets.

Abstract:In this note we give a simple sufficient condition for an affine iterated function system to admit an invariant affine subspace persistently with respect to changes in the translation parameters. This yields further examples of tuples of contracting linear maps which do not satisfy the conclusions of Falconer's theorem on the Hausdorff dimension of almost every self-affine set. We also obtain new examples of iterated function systems of similarity transformations which cannot satisfy the open set condition for any choice of translation parameters, and resolve a related question of Peres and Solomyak.

Abstract:We prove that certain families of homogenous affine iterated function systems in $\mathbb{R}^d$ have the property that the open set condition and the existence of exact overlaps both occur densely in the space of translation parameters. These examples demonstrate that in the theorems of Falconer and Jordan-Pollicott-Simon on the almost sure dimensions of self-affine sets and measures, the set of exceptional translation parameters can be a dense set. The proof combines results from the literature on self-affine tilings of $\mathbb{R}^d$ with an adaptation of a classic argument of Erdős on the singularity of certain Bernoulli convolutions. Our result encompasses a one-dimensional example due to Kenyon which arises as a special case.

Abstract:Motivated by the subsmoothness of a closed set introduced by Aussel et al. (2005) [8], we introduce and study the uniform subsmoothness of a collection of infinitely many closed subsets in a Banach space. Under the uniform subsmoothness assumption, we provide an interesting subdifferential formula on distance functions and consider uniform metric regularity for a kind of multifunctions frequently appearing in optimization and variational analysis. Different from the existing works, without the restriction of convexity, we consider several fundamental notions in optimization such as the linear regularity, CHIP, strong CHIP and property (G) for a collection of infinitely many closed sets. We establish relationships among these fundamental notions for an arbitrary collection of uniformly subsmooth closed sets. In particular, we extend duality characterizations of the linear regularity for a collection of closed convex sets to the nonconvex setting.

Abstract:According to the size of sets for doubling measures, subsets of R-n can be divided into six classes. Sets in these six classes are respectively called very thin, fairly thin, minimally thin, minimally fat, fairly fat, and very fat. In our main results, we prove that if a quasisymmetric mapping f of [0,1] maps a uniform Cantor set E onto a uniform Cantor set f (E), then E is of positive Lebesgue measure if and only if f(E) is so. Also, we prove that the product of n uniform Cantor sets is very fat if and only if each of the factors is very fat, and that the product is minimally fat if and only if one of the factors is minimally fat.

Abstract:Let $A$ be an expanding $d\times d$ matrix with integer entries and ${\mathcal D}\subset {\mathbb Z}^d$ be a finite digit set. Then the pair $(A, {\mathcal D})$ defines a unique integral self-affine set $K=A^{-1}(K+{\mathcal D})$. In this paper, by replacing the Euclidean norm with a pseudo-norm $w$ in terms of $A$, we construct a hyperbolic graph on $(A, {\mathcal D})$ and show that $K$ can be identified with the hyperbolic boundary. Moreover, if $(A, {\mathcal D})$ safisfies the open set condition, we also prove that two totally disconnected integral self-affine sets are Lipschitz equivalent if an only if they have the same $w$-Hausdorff dimension, that is, their digit sets have equal cardinality. We extends some well-known results in the self-similar sets to the self-affine sets.
