Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the attractor of C1,α bi-Lipschitz IFS in ℝ is uniformly perfect if it is not a singleton. Then we construct an example to show that this does not hold for C1 bi-Lipschitz IFS in ℝn.

Abstract:The authors show that the self-similar set for a finite family of contractive similitudes (similaxities, i.e., \f(i)(x) - f(i)(y)\ = a(i)\x - y\, x,y is an element of R-N, where 0 < ai < 1) is uniformly perfect except the case that it is a singleton. As a corollary, it is proved that this self-similar set has positive Hausdorff dimension provided that it is not a singleton. And a lower bound of the upper box dimension of the uniformly perfect sets is given: Meanwhile the uniformly perfect set with Hausdorff measure zero in its Hausdorff dimension is given.

Abstract:We introduce a class of J-like compacts of the plane with the property that either any non-trivial local holomorphic family of symmetries of such compact is finite or the compact is locally "laminar". The proof repeats the one for the Julia set. Apart of Julia sets, this class includes attractors of holomorphic iterated function systems with the strong separation condition. We apply this to study the set of such iterated function systems having the same attractor

Abstract:In this paper, we study cut sets of attractors of iteration function systems (IFS) in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Under natural conditions, we show that all irreducible cut sets of these attractors are perfect sets or single points. This leads to a criterion for the existence of cut points of IFS attractors. If the IFS attractors are self-affine tiles, our results become algorithmically checkable and can be used to exhibit cut points with the help of Hata graphs. This enables us to construct cut points of some self-affine tiles studied in the literature.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the sharp constants of quantitative Hardy and Rellich inequalities on nonreversible Finsler manifolds equipped with arbitrary measures. In particular, these inequalities can be globally refined by adding remainder terms like the Brezis–Vázquez improvement, if Finsler manifolds are of strictly negative flag curvature, vanishing S-curvature and finite uniformity constant. Furthermore, these results remain valid when Finsler metrics are reversible.

Abstract:finite family $\mathcal{F}=\{f_1,\ldots,f_n\}$ of continuous selfmaps of a given metric space $X$ is called an iterated function system (shortly IFS). In a case of contractive selfmaps of a complete metric space is well-known that IFS has an unique attractor \cite{Hu}. However, in \cite{LS} authors studied highly non-contractive IFSs, i.e. such families $\mathcal{F}=\{f_1,\ldots,f_n\}$ of continuous selfmaps that for any remetrization of $X$ each function $f_i$ has Lipschitz constant $>1, i=1,\ldots,n.$ They asked when one can remetrize $X$ that $\mathcal{F}$ is Lipschitz IFS, i.e. all $f_i's$ are Lipschitz (not necessarily contractive), $ i=1,\ldots,n$. We give a general positive answer for this problem by constructing respective new metric (equivalent to the original one) on $X$, determined by a given family $\mathcal{F}=\{f_1,\ldots,f_n\}$ of continuous selfmaps of $X$. However, our construction is valid even for some specific infinite families of continuous functions.

Abstract:The set of nonzero external forces for which the zero function is in the global attractor of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations is shown to be meagre in a Frechet topology. A criterion in terms of a Taylor expansion in complex time is used to characterize the forces in this set. This leads to several relations between certain Gevrey subclasses of C-infinity and a new upper bound for a Gevrey norm of solutions in the attractor, valid in the strip of analyticity in time.

Abstract:Iterated function systems (IFSs) and their attractors have been central to the theory of fractal geometry almost from its inception. Moreover, contractivity of the functions in the IFS has been central to the theory of iterated functions systems. If the functions in the IFS are contractions, then the IFS is guaranteed to have a unique attractor. The converse question, does the existence of an attractor imply that the IFS is contractive, originates in a 1959 work by Bessaga which proves a converse to the contraction mapping theorem. Although a converse is true in that case, it is known that it does not always hold for an IFS. In general, there do exist IFSs with attractors and which are not contractive. However, in the context of IFSs in Euclidean space, this question has been open. In this paper we show that a highly non-contractive iterated function system in Euclidean space can have an attractor. In order to do that, we introduce the concept of an L -expansive map, i.e., a map that has Lipschitz constant strictly greater than one under any remetrization. This is necessitated by the absence of positively expansive maps on the interval.

Abstract: Let $(K_1,\ldots,K_n)$ be a Cantor type graph-directed attractors in $\mathbb{R}^d$. By creating an auxiliary graph, we provide an effective criterion of whether $K_i\cap K_j$ is empty for every pair of $1\leq i,j\leq n$. Moreover, the emptiness can be checked by examining only a finite number of the attractor's geometric approximations. The method is also applicable for more general graph-directed systems. As an application, we are able to determine the connectedness of all $d$-dimensional generalized Sierpi\'nski sponges of which the corresponding IFSs are allowed to have rotational and reflectional components.

Abstract:We investigate and quantify the distinction between rectifiable and purely unrectifiable 1-sets in the plane. That is, given that purely unrectifiable 1-sets always have null intersections with Lipschitz images, we ask whether these sets intersect with Lipschitz images at a dimension that is close to one. In an answer to this question, we show that one-dimensional attractors of iterated function systems that satisfy the open set condition have subsets of dimension arbitrarily close to one that can be covered by Lipschitz graphs. Moreover, the Lipschitz constant of such graphs depends explicitly on the difference between the dimension of the original set and the subset that intersects with the graph.

Abstract:Iterated function systems (IFSs) are one of the most important tools for building examples of fractal sets exhibiting some kind of `approximate self-similarity'. Examples include self-similar sets, self-affine sets etc. A beautiful variant on the standard IFS model was introduced by Barnsley and Demko in 1985 where one builds an \emph{inhomogeneous} attractor by taking the closure of the orbit of a fixed compact condensation set under a given standard IFS. In this expository article I will discuss the dimension theory of inhomogeneous attractors, giving several examples and some open questions. I will focus on the upper box dimension with emphasis on how to derive good estimates, and when these estimates fail to be sharp.

How linear can a non-linear hyperbolic IFS be?

Abstract:Motivated by a question of M. Hochman, we construct examples of hyperbolic IFSs $\Phi$ on $[0,1]$ where linear and non-linear behaviour coexist. Namely, for every $2\leq r \leq \infty$ we exhibit the existence of a $C^r$-smooth IFS such that $f'\equiv c(\Phi)$ on the attractor and $f''\equiv 0$ for every $f \in \Phi$, yet $\Phi$ is not $C^t$-smooth for any $t>r$, nor $C^r$-conjugate to self-similar. We provide a complete classification of these systems. Furthermore, when $r>1$, we give a necessary and sufficient Livsic-like matching condition for a self-conformal $C^r$-smooth IFS to be conjugated to one of these systems having $f''=0$ on the attractor, for every $f\in \Phi$. We also show that this condition fails to ensure the existence of a $C^1$-conjugacy in mere $C^1$-regularity.

Abstract:In this paper we study structural properties of the uniform global attractor for non-autonomous reaction-diffusion system in which uniqueness of Cauchy problem is not guarantied. In the case of translation compact time-depended coefficients we prove that the uniform global attractor consists of bounded complete trajectories of corresponding multi-valued processes. Abstract:This paper introduces a new class of iterated function systems (IFSs) called R-IFSs, which include both rotation/reflection maps and contraction maps. The study of R-IFSs is motivated by the recent research direction on enriching IFSs by adding other types of mappings. The paper investigates the existence and properties of the semi-attractor and compact invariant sets of R-IFSs, as well as the class of minimal invariant sets of R-IFSs. The paper also provides a familiar setting that is an invariant set of R-IFS but not an invariant set of any IFS.

Abstract:A bi-spatial random attractor is obtained for the stochastic FitzHugh-Nagumo systems on unbounded thin domains when the initial space is $L^2\times L^2$ and the terminate space is $L^p\times L^2$. Furthermore, we establish the upper semi-continuity of attractors under the $p$-norm when a family of $(n+1)$-dimensional thin domains degenerates into a $n$-dimensional unbounded domain.

Abstract:Let E be the attractor of an iterated function system {f(i)(x) = ?R(i)x + a(i)}N-i=1 on R-d, where 0 < ? < 1, a(i) ? R-d and Ri are orthogonal transformations on R-d. Suppose that {f(i)}N-i=1 satisfies the open set condition, but not the strong separation condition. We show that E can not be generated by any iterated function system of similitudes satisfying the strong separation condition. This gives a partial answer to a folklore question about the separation conditions on the generating iterated function systems of self-similar sets.

Abstract:Let $\{S_1, S_2, \dots, S_n\}$ be an iterated function system on $\mathbb{R}$ with attractor $K$. It is known that if the iterated function system satisfies the weak separation property and $K = [0,1]$ then the iterated function system also satisfies the convex finite type condition. We show that the condition $K = [0,1]$ is necessary. That is, we give two examples of iterated function systems on $\mathbb{R}$ satisfying weak separation condition, and $0< \dim_H(K) < 1$ such that the IFS does not satisfy the convex finite type condition.
