Abstract:Iterated function systems (IFSs) and their attractors have been central to the theory of fractal geometry almost from its inception. Moreover, contractivity of the functions in the IFS has been central to the theory of iterated functions systems. If the functions in the IFS are contractions, then the IFS is guaranteed to have a unique attractor. The converse question, does the existence of an attractor imply that the IFS is contractive, originates in a 1959 work by Bessaga which proves a converse to the contraction mapping theorem. Although a converse is true in that case, it is known that it does not always hold for an IFS. In general, there do exist IFSs with attractors and which are not contractive. However, in the context of IFSs in Euclidean space, this question has been open. In this paper we show that a highly non-contractive iterated function system in Euclidean space can have an attractor. In order to do that, we introduce the concept of an L -expansive map, i.e., a map that has Lipschitz constant strictly greater than one under any remetrization. This is necessitated by the absence of positively expansive maps on the interval.

Abstract:In this paper, we study cut sets of attractors of iteration function systems (IFS) in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Under natural conditions, we show that all irreducible cut sets of these attractors are perfect sets or single points. This leads to a criterion for the existence of cut points of IFS attractors. If the IFS attractors are self-affine tiles, our results become algorithmically checkable and can be used to exhibit cut points with the help of Hata graphs. This enables us to construct cut points of some self-affine tiles studied in the literature.

Abstract:This paper introduces a new class of iterated function systems (IFSs) called R-IFSs, which include both rotation/reflection maps and contraction maps. The study of R-IFSs is motivated by the recent research direction on enriching IFSs by adding other types of mappings. The paper investigates the existence and properties of the semi-attractor and compact invariant sets of R-IFSs, as well as the class of minimal invariant sets of R-IFSs. The paper also provides a familiar setting that is an invariant set of R-IFS but not an invariant set of any IFS.

Abstract:In the article Secelean and Wardowski (Qual Theory Dyn Syst 21:162, 2022), there were introduced iterated function systems involving certain condition of orbital type. The attractors of such IFSs substantially extend the family of fractal objects investigated so far. In the present work we provide some further properties and give the answer regarding the continuity dependence of this type of attractors with respect to the continuous change of the parameters that describe the maps of the given orbital IFS and the initially chosen compact subset.

The existence of attractors of iterated implicit function systems is proved based on different equation conditions, including the equation [Formula: see text] containing the implicit function or being [Formula: see text]-contractive about [Formula: see text]. Meanwhile, we give definitions of implicit convergence of functions and monotone sequence of iterated implicit function systems. Finally, some properties of attractors of iterated implicit function systems are elucidated.

Abstract:Iterated function systems (IFSs) are one of the most important tools for building examples of fractal sets exhibiting some kind of `approximate self-similarity'. Examples include self-similar sets, self-affine sets etc. A beautiful variant on the standard IFS model was introduced by Barnsley and Demko in 1985 where one builds an \emph{inhomogeneous} attractor by taking the closure of the orbit of a fixed compact condensation set under a given standard IFS. In this expository article I will discuss the dimension theory of inhomogeneous attractors, giving several examples and some open questions. I will focus on the upper box dimension with emphasis on how to derive good estimates, and when these estimates fail to be sharp.

Abstract:finite family $\mathcal{F}=\{f_1,\ldots,f_n\}$ of continuous selfmaps of a given metric space $X$ is called an iterated function system (shortly IFS). In a case of contractive selfmaps of a complete metric space is well-known that IFS has an unique attractor \cite{Hu}. However, in \cite{LS} authors studied highly non-contractive IFSs, i.e. such families $\mathcal{F}=\{f_1,\ldots,f_n\}$ of continuous selfmaps that for any remetrization of $X$ each function $f_i$ has Lipschitz constant $>1, i=1,\ldots,n.$ They asked when one can remetrize $X$ that $\mathcal{F}$ is Lipschitz IFS, i.e. all $f_i's$ are Lipschitz (not necessarily contractive), $ i=1,\ldots,n$. We give a general positive answer for this problem by constructing respective new metric (equivalent to the original one) on $X$, determined by a given family $\mathcal{F}=\{f_1,\ldots,f_n\}$ of continuous selfmaps of $X$. However, our construction is valid even for some specific infinite families of continuous functions.

Abstract:Let E be the attractor of an iterated function system {f(i)(x) = ?R(i)x + a(i)}N-i=1 on R-d, where 0 < ? < 1, a(i) ? R-d and Ri are orthogonal transformations on R-d. Suppose that {f(i)}N-i=1 satisfies the open set condition, but not the strong separation condition. We show that E can not be generated by any iterated function system of similitudes satisfying the strong separation condition. This gives a partial answer to a folklore question about the separation conditions on the generating iterated function systems of self-similar sets.

Abstract:Iterated function systems (IFS) provide a powerful method for constructing fractals and modeling complex structures. This paper develops the notion of a dynamical system of IFS to study how an initial IFS evolves over time. We construct a complete metric space consisting of countable IFS as the state space. An evolution operator is defined that maps the state space across time while satisfying properties of a dynamical system. We analyze the resulting IFS dynamics, introducing concepts like the IFS shift map and parity evolution operators. The shift map is proven continuous and its periodic points characterized. Results relate properties of parity evolution operators to similarity dimensions of the resulting IFS. Overall, this dynamical system framework allows rigorous analysis of IFS behavior over time. By providing tools to model fractal progression, it has significant applications in areas including image analysis, biology, and physics. The dynamics and properties established lay groundwork for future studies and practical models leveraging IFS.

Abstract:We study invariant sets and measures generated by iterated function systems defined on countable discrete spaces that are uniform grids of a finite dimension. The discrete spaces of this type can be considered as models of spaces in which actual numerical computation takes place. In this context, we investigate the possibility of the application of the random iteration algorithm to approximate these discrete IFS invariant sets and measures. The problems concerning a discretization of hyperbolic IFSs are considered as special cases of this more general setting.

Abstract:We review the theory of semiattractors associated with non-contractive Iterated Function Systems (IFSs) and demonstrate its applications on a concrete example. In particular, we present criteria for the existence of semiattractors due to Lasota and Myjak. We also discuss the Kieninger criterion which allows us to characterise when a semiattractor is strongly-fibred. Finally, we consider a specific example of a non-contractive IFS introduced by Barnsley and Vince. We find an invariant measure for this system which allows us to describe its semiattractor. The difficulty in analysing this IFS stems from the fact that it is neither eventually contractive nor contractive on average.

Abstract: Let $(K_1,\ldots,K_n)$ be a Cantor type graph-directed attractors in $\mathbb{R}^d$. By creating an auxiliary graph, we provide an effective criterion of whether $K_i\cap K_j$ is empty for every pair of $1\leq i,j\leq n$. Moreover, the emptiness can be checked by examining only a finite number of the attractor's geometric approximations. The method is also applicable for more general graph-directed systems. As an application, we are able to determine the connectedness of all $d$-dimensional generalized Sierpi\'nski sponges of which the corresponding IFSs are allowed to have rotational and reflectional components.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to answer one of the open questions raised in Strobin [Qual. Theory Dyn. Syst. 19 , 85 (2020)] of whether there exists an invariant (Hutchinson) measure for generalized iterated function systems of any order, consisting of a countably infinite number of maps. Our results likewise strengthen those obtained in Secelean [Mediterr. J. Math. 11 , 361–372 (2014)], where the existence of the invariant measure is ascertained only for the case of generalized iterated function systems of order 2, consisting of functions which satisfy a particular contractive condition.

Abstract:This paper seeks conditions that ensure that the attractor of a graph directed iterated function system (GD-IFS) cannot be realised as the attractor of a standard iterated function system (IFS). For a strongly connected directed graph, it is known that, if all directed circuits go through a particular vertex, then for any GD-IFS of similarities on R based on the graph and satisfying the convex open set condition (COSC), its attractor associated with that vertex is also the attractor of a (COSC) standard IFS. In this paper we show the following complementary result. If there exists a directed circuit which does not go through a certain vertex, then there exists a GD-IFS based on the graph such that the attractor associated with that vertex is not the attractor of any standard IFS of similarities. Indeed, we give algebraic conditions for such GD-IFS attractors not to be attractors of standard IFSs, and thus show that 'almost-all' COSC GD-IFSs based on the graph have attractors associated with this vertex that are not the attractors of any COSC standard IFS.

Using well-known ideas from dynamical systems, such as the Mañé potential and the Aubry set, we provide a complete characterization of the densities of such idempotent probabilities. Abstract:Iterated Function System (IFS) models have been used to represent discrete sequences where the attractor of the IFS is self-affine or piece-wise self-affine in R 2 or R 3 ( R is the set of real numbers). In this paper, the piece-wise hidden-variable fractal model is extended from R 3 to R n ( n is an integer greater than 3), which is called the high-dimensional piece-wise hidden-variable fractal model. This new model uses a “mapping partial derivative” and a constrained inverse algorithm to identify the model parameters. The model values depend continuously on all the hidden variables. Therefore, the result is very general.
