Abstract:A new type of steel concrete composite beam with double-joist steel sections encased was introduced.Six large-scale specimens were designed and tested under four-point bending condition to study the performance indicators of normal section bending bearing capacity, deformation, ductility and ultimate curvature and ultimate bending moment.It was found that the double-steel reinforced concrete beam had high strength and well ductility.The cracking load and ultimate load of the beam were influenced by the steel ratio, rebar ratio, stirrup ratio, steel size, space, and shear studs.Based on the comparison of the test results and through correcting coefficient of concrete part and the whole part in two Chinese codes, the bending calculation formula of double-steel reinforced concrete beam was obtained.

Abstract:An optimal design problem of long span steel-concrete composite floor system was investigated based on important parameters to aim at the economical and applicable conditions and optimizing orientations of long span steel-concrete composite floor. The objective function was set as economical equivalent steel consumption, and the variables contained eight parameters including dimensions of the steel section, intermediate distance between steel sections and thickness of concrete slab. The objective function was constrained to the plastic theory, standards and construction experience. The generalized reduced gradient method (GRG) was used to generate optimal sections with minimum economical equivalent steel consumption under different spans and live loads. According to the optimization results, the composite floor within a span of 60 m and a variable load of 6 kN/m2 could efficiently facilitate the composite effect of composite structure and has good economic benefits. As for super-long span composite floor when the traditional I-section floor system is not economically suitable, the composite floor with corrugated web is recommended for improving the bearing efficiency of steel web. A new cable-supported composite floor system was proposed based on the cable-supported beam for its high efficiency in mechanism.

Abstract:At present, the current design code for steel-concrete composite girder bridge has not considered the effect of the shrinkage and creep on the interface slippage in the slip calculation method.Under the assumption of linear slip and no debonding between steel girder and concrete, the expression of slippage was deduced by considering the long-term performance of concrete deck and prestressing effect for composite beam bridges with external prestressing.The slippage of a typical simply-supported composite beam was analyzed and the values were compared with the results by other methods.Results show that the proposed method and formulas are reasonable and valid.Further parameter study confirms that interface slippage between steel and concrete will increase with time when taking the long-term performance of concrete into consideration.The slippage of simply-supported composite beams increases gradually from the middle to the two ends of beam and is up to the maximum at the ends of the beam.When the prestressing steel-concrete composite beams are designed, in addition to considering the positive effect of prestressing on composite beam deflection, attention should pay to the negative influence on the slip of prestressing composite beam.

Abstract:Taking the four-span 40m simply supported multi-box steel-concrete composite girder bridge in the ProjectⅡ of Qiushi Expressway in Hangzhou as the background, this paper analyzed the static and dynamic behaviour of the bridge by FEM, then finished a field test study for the bridge. Finally, comparing the test values with the results obtained from FEM analysis, it was verified that the rigidity transverse beam method with infinte stiffness is also adaptive to caculating and predicting the load transverse distribution of the multi-box steel-concrete composite bridge. Steel diaphragm and stiffening rib of the multi-box steel- concrete composite bridge can improve the flexural capacity of bridge to some extent, so these contributions should be reasonably considered during the design stage in order to reduce the engineering cost. The measured modes agree well with the results from FEM.

Abstract:The conventional planar beam theory can't be used to analyze the actual effect of spatial prestressing force. In this work, degenerated solid elements were used to take prestressed reinforcement as a part of the structure, and equivalent node load was provided to simulate the effect of the prestressing force. By the method, the effect of prestressed reinforcement in Linhai cable-stayed bridge was discussed. The result of analysis showed that the prestressing force markedly improved the bridge's service state; and that its spatial effect was very obvious. This method can effectively simulate the spatial effect of prestressing force, and can ensure success in the design of prestressed concrete bridge.

Abstract:A new type of channel(U-shape)section(steel-concrete)composite girder bridge is presented.It is a component that concrete is cast at the interior of the steel-concrete channel section steel beam prefabricated from steel plates,and the steel plates and the concrete are integrated through shearing connectors and work together.While inheriting the characteristics of traditional concrete channel beams,this type of structure possesses its own merits,including that with steel plates substituting formwork,construction may proceed with few or no formwork.The tension areas of the structure are wrapped with steel plates to improve the durability,for it not only avoids the exposure of concrete cracks,but also provides protection from impact.The tensile strength of the steel plate at the bottom can be made full use for both the transversal and the longitudinal directions,which greatly simplifies the fabrication of the structure,including make the assembling,welding of reinforcement,and the transversal tension of the prestressing tendon easier.A series of design methods,including calculation methods for flexural capacity,longitudinal and vertical shear resistance,torsion behavior,rigidity,deformation,crack resistance,and creep,as well as the construction details and techniques,will be proposed on the basis of experimental and theoretical studies.A preliminary finite element analysis on the sectional types is carried out.It is shown that the parameters of the section have different impacts on the performance of the structure.Comparing with others,the width of the longitudinal rib of the bottom concrete,the flange thickness and the web height of the concrete are relatively more sensitive factors.In addition,temperature and contraction,creep of the concrete also have much influence on the structural behavior.Shear lag is exhibited to some extent for the longitudinal middle-plane stress distribution along the direction of width of the bottom panel of the steel girder and concrete under the vertical loads.

Abstract:Composite steel-concrete beams have recently been widely applied in actual constructionin China. In this paper, research work on composite steel-concrete beams in China during the past 20 years is introduced. The concerned specifications of three published design codes are also introduced. Details of the design and construction of some structures built with composite beams are presented: a composite floor system in a power plant building, a 150m span arch bridge with decks of prestressed composite beams, and strengthening of an old reinforced concrete bridge with composite beams to sustain heavier vehicles. Finally, the prospect of composite beams in China and some of the research needed are briefly described.

Abstract:When the late-poured band,which usually is reserved to solve the problem of concrete cracking caused by temperature stresses in the process of pouring the mass concrete,is constructed by inverse construction method,the traditional method is to installing the transfer band or temporary upright post.But the traditional method is an uneconomical method that often delays the construction schedule.A new type of structure called steel reinforced concrete composite beam were put forward in the paper to solve above problem.Meanwhile,finite element software were used to calculate and analyze the new type structure of steel reinforced concrete composite beam theoretically,including the bending resistance,shear resistance,pressure resistance and overall structural behavior.Besides,the detail structure stresses of the anchorage zone were also analyzed accurately by three-dimensional finite element software.Consequently,the most suitable anchorage length was identified as 1.0 m(that is two times of the beam's height).

Abstract:A new type of steel–concrete composite beam that is specifically applicable to railway bridges is presented. The beam is featured with a channel shaped section. For such a section, the U-section steel beam is prefabricated with steel plates and the interior side of the channel is cast with concrete. The steel plates and concrete are integrated through shear stud connectors and work together to distribute loads. This type of structure not only inherits the characteristics of traditional concrete channel beams but also possesses its own unique attributes, such as advantageous mechanical performances, facilitating construction process, and low maintenance cost etc. To develop a design method for this new type of structures, and based on some FEM analysis, a static test of four-point symmetric bending was designed on a simply supported steel–concrete composite channel beam model with 1/3 sectional scale and 1/4 length scale. Preliminary research was conducted on its bending capacity, stiffness, stress distribution, crack diagram etc. Experimental results revealed that the steel plates and the concrete slab integrated through shear stud connectors can work well together and the channel beam model presented a bending failure mode. The flexural load carrying capacities and deformations of the composite channel beam were also analyzed by the Section analysis method, and the results agreed well with those from the test.

Abstract:Steel-Concrete composite slim beam is a new type of composite beams with steel sections encased in concrete slab. Consequently, the structural height can be reduced similar to a beamless floor system. In this paper, a new type of slim beams fabricated with a propriety SP slab is investigated by finite element method. Three types of beams are analyzed, including a simply-supported beam, a framed beam and a cantilever beam. The stiffness and loading capacity are evaluated and verified with the experimental results. The load-deflection curves are also reported and agree well with the test records.

Abstract:Composite megastructure would be more used in bridge construction because of its higher performance and less material cost. Experimental studies were conducted to investigate the cooperative performance of double steel plate concrete composite tower and compare the behaviour of composite tower and reinforced concrete tower. The specimens were based on the megastructure – the composite tower of the Nanjing No.5 Yangtze River Bridge, which was the first large-span cable-stayed bridge using double steel plate concrete composite tower. By designing full- scale four-point bending tests, the size effect was eliminated. The cooperative performance between steel and concrete in tension and compression areas was investigated. After the loading process, two composite specimens showed typical bending failure mode, and the RC beam showed the mid-span bending failure mode after the shearing span slipped. The steel-concrete composite specimen showed higher initial stiffness and ultimate bearing capacity than the RC specimen by 51% and 49% respectively in the load-displacement curves. Increasing the thickness of composite steel plate from 14mm to 20mm could improve the initial stiffness of composite specimen by 9% and the ultimate bearing capacity by 11%, but would reduce the ductility by 28%. Therefore, the stiffness, strength and ductility of the structure should be weighed in the composite tower design, and there existed optimal steel plate thickness. The slip between steel plate and concrete did not exceed 0.3mm before the specimen yielding. The composite tower of Nanjing No.5 Bridge had a good cooperative performance between the steel and the concrete. In addition, the composite tower had better structural performance than the RC tower, which was worth promotion.
