Abstract:A novel method for simultaneously measuring three-dimensional small angles is presented through adopting laser collimation technique and ray combination method. The systemic model for measuring three-dimensional rotation angles of the linear guide track is established based on two pentaprisms, two mirrors and two photoelectric detectors. All measuring parameters are analysed theoretically in detail. The results show that the systemic model is feasible. The resolutions of the angles can reach to 0.07 ″, when the system parameters apply to the values supposed. The whole measuring system is characterized of simple structure and high precision. The analysis results can provide theoretical basis and reference for system design.

Abstract:The method of simultaneous measurement of six-dimensional parameters is a difficult problem from measuring guide track of machine tool and other fields. A novel system model is presented through adopting techniques of the laser alignment and laser interference, which is based on the single laser beam data. The system model and measuring parameters are analyzed theoretically in detail. The results show that the resolution of the angle errors (yaw, pitch and roll) is less than 0.2″ and the resolution of the linear displacements is better than 0.3 μm. The whole measuring system is characterized of simple structure and high precision. The moving measurement head is wireless, which eliminates any added errors and inconvenience introduced by pushing and pulling the wires. The analysis results can provide theoretical basis and reference for designing system.
A Novel Method to Simultaneously Measure the Straightness

Abstract:A precise two-degree-of-freedom measuring system (2DMS) is developed based on single-mode optical fiber, LD, cube corner retroreflector and four-quadrant photodetector (4-Q), and the simultaneous on-line measurement of lateral and vertical direction straightness errors of the linear stage is carried out. The moving part is wireless, which eliminates any errors introduced by pushing and pulling the wires. The sensitivity of the straightness error measurement can be improved by a factor of 2 with the cube corner retroreflector. This fiber-based optically aligned beam is used to establish a reference line for the straightness measurement of any mechanical system. 4-Q detector is used to receive the laser beam. A chip microcomputer is developed to conduct all data acquisition and signal processing. The beam drift influence can be removed in the greatest extent from the system. The experiments on the measurement system stability, repeatability and its comparison with the HP5528 double-frequency laser interferometer are carried out.

Abstract:A single method for simultaneously measuring 2-D rotational angles is proposed by using a collimation laser. Compared with the traditional autocollimator measurement method, the proposed method can also be applied to longer distance and higher precision angular measurement. The 2-D angular drift of the reference datum beam is suppressed by a factor of 10 via expansion. A traditional single lens in front of the detector is replaced by combination lenses to increase the sensitivity and compactibility. The measurement principle of the 2-D angles is also analyzed. The feasibility and stability of the presented system are verified by comparison with the Renishaw ML10 laser interference measuring system. The experimental results show that the linear correlativity is 0.99999 and the point-to-point standard deviation error is less than +/- 0.2 arcsec in a +/- 60-arcsec range and 2000-mm distance. This proposal is most advantageous for simultaneous long distance and high accuracy of 2-D angular errors measurement of a linear guide manner. Abstract:Scientific instruments and facilities used for calibrating the dynamic angle error of inertial instruments have played more and more important roles in mechanism error research and accuracy improvement. Present attitude measurement methods can not simultaneously meet the requirements of the inertial instrument angle error calibration in dynamic environments such as linear or angular vibration. Based on the collaborative integration and modeling calculation of single-point laser Doppler vibrometer, this paper proposes a dynamic attitude measurement system that can completely realize non-contact real-time accurate three-dimensional rotation angle measurement, filling in the blank of non-contact dynamic angle error calibration of inertial instrument. Besides, we propose a distance calibration method to reduce the angle measurement error from 0.34 degrees to 0.0072 degrees, which fully satisfies the non-contact measurement requirements of the inertial instrument.

Abstract:A novel optical method for enhancing the measurement sensitivity of straightness error of a moving stage is proposed based on collimating laser.The sensitivity of the straightness measurement can be improved by a factor of 8 compared with the movement of the detector itself via using multi-reflection and combination lenses.The measuring principle of the straightness is analyzed.The comparison experiments using Renishaw ML10 laser interference measurement system have been carried out.The experimental results show that the linear correlativity of two-dimensional straightness measurement errors is about 0.9997 and the standard deviation error of the point-to-point is better than 0.1 μm in a ±100 μm range.

Abstract:A low cost and high precision system which can measure two-degrees-of-freedom straightness simultaneously is proposed based on a laser collimator. In the system, a miniature fiber coupled diode laser generates a collimating beam. The sensitivity of the straightness error measurement is magnified by a factor of 4 compared with the lateral movement of the retro-reflector itself after the multi-reflections. A Renishaw ML10 laser interference measurement system was used to verify the developed system in a series of experiments in the laboratory environment. Experimental results agree with the expected results. The two-dimensional straightness error measurement had linear correlativity close to 1 and the standard one-to-one deviation error was better than 0.32 mu m obtained over a travel range of 600 mu m.
Machining Precision Online Measurement of Large Span Pin Hole Using Structured Light

Abstract:A two-cameras vision measurement system was designed using cross-hair structured light; an image acquisition device was constructed, which consisted of two high-precision industrial cameras, two cross lasers, and a ring light source. The image of the end pinhole at the transmission box processing site was obtained; the image region of interest (ROI) was extracted; bilateral filtering was used for noise reduction preprocessing, binarization and edge detection. The center lines of two cross structured light were extracted based on improved direction template method. According to the design principle of the measuring system, the diameter and position degree of two pin holes were measured, respectively. Results show that, for diameter of pin hole, the average deviation of the measurement results between the machine vision online measureement device and the electronic plug gauge is 0.001 mm; for hole set position degree, the maximum deviation of the measurement results between the machine vision online measuring device and the coordinate measuring device is 0.02 mm. The proposed machine vision online measuring device can meet the requirements of processing accuracy and online real-time measurement.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel measurement error model for closed-loop surface metrology. In these surface metrology systems, the motion of the probe tip is strictly constrained on a parallel surface that is separated from the measured sample surface of constant displacement by closed-loop controllers. Examples of such metrology systems include constant signal mode scanning probe microscopes and coordinate measuring machines. The combined effect of volumetric errors and surface tracking controllers on the final measurement error was analyzed using an error model developed based on multi-body system theory and surface geometry. A comprehensive overview of the errors of a typical large-scale scanning tunneling microscopy system is provided as an example. Simulations were performed to illustrate the influence of the systematic errors on the final accuracy. Experiments were also conducted on the measurement of a typical micro-structured surface to both verify the proposed error model and establish a possible compensation scheme.

Abstract:Geometric error measurement is crucial for error compensation and machining accuracy of CNC machine tools. However, traditional double-ball bar (DBB) method cannot be used for full-scale measurement of geometric errors due to the constant length of bars. In this paper, a full-scale measurement of geometric errors for CNC machine tools with high efficiency is carried out based on the double ball bar with a ball joint (J-DBB) method. Firstly, the principle of J-DBB is introduced. The J-DBB can be used for a full-scale measurement thanks to its freely measuring radius. Then, the equations of geometric errors which include squareness error, straightness error, roll error, pitch error, and yaw error of the axes are theoretically analyzed. In the end, we compared the theoretical trajectories of circular interpolation with the actual ones. The geometric errors between theoretical trajectories and actual ones can be measured and shown by J-DBB method. The results revealed that the J-DBB can be applied to conduct the full-scale measurement of geometric errors in CNC machine tools. Besides, the measurement range of geometric errors is extended from a two-dimensional circle to a three-dimensional sphere with a radius of 0.259L to 2L.

Abstract:Dimensional and profile measurements of deep-hole parts are key processes both in manufacturing and product lifecycle management. Due to the particularity of the space conditions of deep-hole parts, the existing measurement instruments and methods exhibit some limitations. Based on the multi-axis, highly precise servo drive system, a novel measuring device is developed. The laser displacement sensors are fed by the flux-switching permanent magnet linear motor, and the part is rotated by the servo motor. On this basis, the assessment methods of roundness, straightness, and cylindricity are proposed by employing the least square method (LSM). Additionally, considering the axial center deviation between the sensors and the part, the rotating center coordinate is optimized by the gradient descent algorithm (GDM). Then, the measurement system is constructed and the experiment study is conducted. The results indicate favorable evaluation error of the LSM fitting and GDM iteration. Compared with the coordinate measuring machine (CMM), the measured results show good consistency. In the error analysis, the angle positioning error of measured point is less than 0.01°, and the axial positioning error is less than 0.05 mm. The proposed system and assessment method are regarded as a feasible and promising solution for deep-hole part measurements.

A Laser Triangulation-based 3D Measurement System for Inner Surface of Deep Holes

Abstract:Basing on the laser-triangulation principle, a deep hole inner surface inspection system is developed in this research. Compared with existing inner surface measurement systems, this research takes assembly errors and refraction distortion into consideration and proposes a flexible laser plane calibration technique based on binocular vision that is easy to operate. The measurement system calibrated by proposed method performs well in the field test in which the maximum absolute error of the measured ring gauge diameter is 3μm. Experiment indicates that this system is accurate and suitable for inner surface measurement. Point cloud registration may be applied in the future to extend the system’s applicability.
High Precise Measurement of Tiny Angle Dimensional Holes for the Unit-Holes of the LAMOST Focal Plane Plate

Abstract:In the LAMOST project. the unit-holes on the Focal Plane Plate are the final installation location of the optical fiber positioning system. Theirs precision will influence the observation efficiency of the LAMOST. For the unique requirements, the Unit-holes on the Focal Plane Plate are composed by a series of tiny angle dimensional holes which dimensional angle are between 16' to 2.5 degrees. According to these requirements, the measurement of the tiny angle dimensional holes for the unit-holes needs to less than 3'. And all the unit-holes point to the virtual sphere center of the Focal Plane Plate. To that end, the angle departure Of the Unit-holes axis is changed to the distance from the virtual sphere center of Focal Plane Plate to the unit-holes axis. That is the better way to evaluate the technical requirements of the dimensional angle errors. In the measuring process, common measuring methods do not fit for the tiny angle dimensional hole by CMM(coordinate measurement machine). An extraordinary way to solve this problem is to insert a measuring stick into a unit-hole, with a target ball oil the stick Then measure the low point of the ball center and pull Out the stick for the high station of center. Finally, calculate the two points for the unit-hole axis to get the angle departure. But on the other hand, use this methods will bring extra errors for the measuring stick and the target ball. For better analysis this question, a series experiments are mentioned in this paper, which testify that the Influence of the measure implement is little. With increasing the distance between the low point and the high point position in the measuring process should enhance the accuracy of dimensional angle measurement.
Design and Method of Deep Hole Axis Straightness Detection System

Abstract:In this paper,the straightness of deep hole axis is researched from the perspective of infinitesimal unit. It is found that there are three relationship between the actual and ideal axis of deep hole. A device is designed for detecting the deep hole straightness,which is based on a four-quadrant detector and a parallel light. We probe the principle of light-spot center micro-displacement detection and propose an idea to realize micro-rotation detection,which refers to ratio of the area between light-spot and light itself with the the help of computer. It can reflect the level of the deep hole axis straightness more wildly.

High Precision Laser Deep-hole Diameter Measurement Based on Dynamic Abbe′s Principle

Abstract:The ultra-precision measuring of deep-hole diameters is a tough task of inner size measurement. A method of laser deep-hole diameter measuring were presented based on dynamic Abbe's principle. The measurement system integrates the length measurement technique of dual frequency laser interfere and the aiming method of dual-direction capacitance displacement sensor. Through the suitable arrangement of capacitance displacement aiming sensor, length and depth measuring optical paths, it was ensured that any section hole-diameter's measurement of deep hole follows the Abbe's principle. Six standard gauges between φ 5 mm and φ16 mm were employed to test the characteristic of the system. The ultra-precision measurements of the deep-hole's any section hole diameters were experimentally realized by this system. The resolution is 10 nm and the uncertainty is 0.1 μm.

Abstract:A large-scale stepped shaft is an important component in precision machinery manufacturing. Aiming at the model engineering of large-scale stepped shafts and improving the surface profile measurement accuracy of large-scale stepped shafts, a cylindrical profile measurement model containing seven systematic errors is designed, in which the eccentricity error, tilt error, sensor probe radius error, probe offset error, probe support rod tilt error, and horizontal and vertical rail tilt error are considered. Further, a multi-systematic errors separation method is proposed based on the seven-systematic errors in the cylindrical profile measurement model. First, the autocollimator and image processing are used to accurately extract the verification parameters, and then the stepwise estimation method and the equalisation optimizer (EO) are used to obtain the sectional and spatial parameters. The measurement experiment is based on the large-scale stepped shaft profile measurement device, and uses the coaxiality indicator to evaluate the profile measurement accuracy of the large-scale stepped shaft, and compares our model with the dual-systematic errors model and the five-systematic errors model. The experimental results show that compared with the other two methods, the coaxiality measurement accuracy of standard stepped shaft No. 1 can be increased by 26.03% and 15.99%, respectively; the cylindricity measurement accuracy of standard stepped shaft No. 1 can be increased by 16.03% and 9.17%, respectively; the coaxiality measurement accuracy of the No. 2 standard stepped shaft can be increased by 29.86% and 16.29%, respectively; the cylindricity measurement accuracy of standard stepped shaft No. 2 can be increased by 17.32% and 10.46%, respectively -- this verifies the effectiveness of our measurement method. The measurement method used in this study provides an accurate theoretical basis for the implementation of high-precision model engineering of cylindrical parts for national metrology institutions and key laboratories.
MEASURING AND MODELING OF VOLUMETRIC ERRORS FOR VERTICAL MACHINING CENTERS BASED ON BI-DIRECTIONAL LASER SEQUENTIAL STEP DIAGONAL MEASUREMENT

Abstract:This paper proposes a bi-directional laser sequential step diagonal measuring method for three-axis vertical machining centers. Different measure paths are particularly designed for positive and negative directions, and corresponding error decoupling models are established. Based on the laser measuring data along these bi-directional paths, 18 geometric errors can be identified simultaneously, including 6 angular errors, 3 positioning errors, 6 straightness errors and 3 squareness errors. Compared with single directional step diagonal measurements, the proposed bi-directional mothed is more efficient and can identify more error items, namely 6 angular errors. Experimental tests were conducted on a three-axis vertical machining center. Decoupled error items obtained by the proposed bi-direction measurements coincide with those from direct measurements via a laser Doppler displacement meter, which verified the feasibility of the proposed method. Finally, the position error of the machine whole workspace was predicted by building volumetric error model and the machine accuracy was improved.
A Coaxiality Measurement Method for Hole Using Non-Diffracting Beam Technology

Abstract:Combining the non-diffracting beam datum-line method with the roundness measuring technology, a high precision coaxiality measurement method for a hole whose diameter is more than 40mm is proposed. The principle of the measuring system is introduced and error analysis and test to verify it are presented. The measuring uncertainty of this coaxiality system is less than 1µm when the measuring range is within 1.5m. The measuring uncertainty of error of roundness is less than 0.4µm when the error measuring range is -200~+200µm. This system has many advantages and it can be applied widely for coaxiality measurement.

Abstract:Curved surface structural parts with hole systems are widely used, and accurate measurement of the hole systems is crucial for assembly and functionality. This study presents a novel approach using machine vision and structural science principles to accurately measure spherical hole systems. We introduce key technologies, including measurement parameter definition, system design, and error modeling, in the paper. Our approach overcomes the limitations of existing methods, offering flexibility, precision, and automation measurement of the hole system. Experimental results demonstrate an accuracy of 0.348′ (arcminutes). This research contributes to the optical measurement of curved surface hole systems and improves their alignment and functionality.
