Abstract:A novel microwave-enhanced synthesis of 2-propyl benzimidazole by the reaction of o -phenylenediamine with n -butyric acid,using poly phosphoric acid(PPA) as catalyst under solvent-free conditions has been studied.The optimal experiment conditions have been obtained by the orthogonal experimental design.The average conversion rate of the reaction was 52.58%,corresponding to the traditional synthesis method.But the reaction time decreased from 2～3 h to 6～10 min.The samples synthesized under the optimal conditions have been characterized by the digital melting velocity instrument,infrared spectrometer(IR) and 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance( 1HNMR ).The result showed that the product was 2-propyl benzimidazole.
