Abstract:A review of the progress in researches of rapidly developing in the recent 10 or more years polysilicate-containing composite inorganic polymer flocculants (Si-IPF) used for water and wastewater treatment, covers historical aspects of R&D of Si-IPF, domestic grades (24 flocculants published in Chinese periodicals), raw material used, synthetic technologies, chemical structure and flocculating properties of Si-IPF, and problems in their commercialization. Particularly, the interaction between silicon and metal ions is analyzed in relation to molecular structure and flocculating property of Si-IPF and technological measures of improving the stabilized flocculability of Si-IPF are determined.
