Abstract:Let f be a transcendental entire function and denote the n-th Iterate of f by f(n). For n greater than or equal to 2, we give an explicit estimate of the number of periodic points of f with period n, that is, fix-points of f(n) which are not fix-points of f(k) for 1 less than or equal to k < n.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we prove that for a transcendental meromorphic function f(z) on the complex plane, the inequality T(r, f) < 6N (r, 1/(f2 f(k)−1)) + S(r, f) holds, where k is a positive integer. Moreover, we prove the following normality criterion: Let ℱ be a family of meromorphic functions on a domain D and let k be a positive integer. If for each ℱ ∈ ℱ, all zeros of ℱ are of multiplicity at least k, and f2 f(k) ≠ 1 for z ∈ D, then ℱ is normal in the domain D. At the same time we also show that the condition on multiple zeros of f in the normality criterion is necessary.

Abstract:In this paper it is shown that for a transcendental entire map with certain properties on the distribution of either its zeros, or points in its periodic and preperiodic Fatou domains, all of its Fatou components are simply connected, the union of its Julia set and is connected and the Julia set is uniformly perfect. Moreover, it is shown that any transcendental entire map that interpolates the 3n+1 problem has only simply connected Fatou components and its Julia set is uniformly perfect.

The distribution of the largest digit for parabolic Iterated Function Systems of the interval

Abstract:We investigate the distribution of the largest digit for a wide class of infinite parabolic Iterated Function Systems (IFSs) of the unit interval. Due to the recurrence to parabolic (neutral) fixed points, the dimension analysis of these systems become more delicate than that of uniformly contracting IFSs. We show that the Hausdorff dimensions of level sets associated with the largest digits are constantly equal to the Hausdorff dimension of the limit set of the IFS. This result is an analogue of Wu and Xu's theorem [Math. Proc. Camb. Phil. Soc. {\bf 146} (2009), 207--212] on the regular continued fraction. Examples of application of our result include the backward (aka minus, or negative) continued fractions, even integer continued fractions, and go beyond. Our main technical tool is a dimension theory for non-uniformly expanding Markov interval maps with infinitely many branches.

Abstract:We investigate above bound of total number of deficient values of a transcendental meromorphic function and its derivatives of every order if most of its zeros and poles distribute along finitely many rays starting from the origin and prove that the bound is the number of the rays under some assumption, for example, the function considered is of finite lower order. Next we discuss relations between the numbers of deficient values and common T directions of the functions and their every order derivatives, and demonstrate that total number of deficient values of a meromorphic function and its every order primitive is not greater than the number of common T directions of the functions and its every order derivatives. We then go to the case of entire functions. For example, we verify that a bound of total number of deficient values of the function and its derivatives and primitives of all orders is two times its lower order for an entire function with the finite positive lower order. Finally, we make a simple survey of some of the celebrated related works of Edrei and Fuchs' and Yang and Zhang's and others.

Abstract:We prove the existence of transcendental entire functions $f$ having a property studied by Mahler, namely that $f(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})\subseteq \overline{\mathbb{Q}}$ and $f^{-1}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}})\subseteq \overline{\mathbb{Q}}$, and in addition having a prescribed number of $k$-periodic algebraic orbits, for all $k\geq 1$. Under a suitable topology, such functions are shown to be dense in the set of all entire transcendental functions.

Abstract:The theory of value distribution of meromorphic functions is developed in two directions: module distribution and argument distribution. This article is a survey on two aspects of the value distribution of meromorphic functions with respect to arguments and it also includes some new results. The first part is to survey a characterization of growth of a transcendental meromorphic function for which the number of a-points in certain curvilinear sectors, specially in angular domains, is restricted. The second part is devoted to the discussion of singular directions: the Julia, Borel directions and T-directions. In the final section, some problems will be given for further discussion.

Abstract:This paper consists of two parts. The first is to study the existence of a point a at the intersection of the Julia set and the escaping set such that a goes to infinity under iterates along Julia directions or Borel directions. Additionally, we find such points that approximate all Borel directions to escape if the meromorphic functions have positive lower order. We confirm the existence of such slowly escaping points under a weaker growth condition. The second is to study the connection between the Fatou set and argument distribution. In view of the filling disks, we show nonexistence of multiply connected Fatou components if an entire function satisfies a weaker growth condition. We prove that the absence of singular directions implies the nonexistence of large annuli in the Fatou set.

On the Structure of Periodic Eigenvalues of the Vectorial $p$-Laplacian

Abstract:In this paper we will solve an open problem raised by Manásevich and Mawhin twenty years ago on the structure of the periodic eigenvalues of the vectorial $p$-Laplacian. This is an Euler-Lagrangian equation on the plane or in higher dimensional Euclidean spaces. The main result obtained is that for any exponent $p$ other than $2$, the vectorial $p$-Laplacian on the plane will admit infinitely many different sequences of periodic eigenvalues with a given period. These sequences of eigenvalues are constructed using the notion of scaling momenta we will introduce. The whole proof is based on the complete integrability of the equivalent Hamiltonian system, the tricky reduction to $2$-dimensional dynamical systems, and a number-theoretical distinguishing between different sequences of eigenvalues. Some numerical simulations to the new sequences of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions will be given. Several further conjectures towards to the panorama of the spectral sets will be imposed.

Abstract:In this paper we make a further discussion of a relationship between the number of fixed-points and distribution of singular values along the round annuli centered at the origin of a transcendental meromorphic function. To attain our purpose we first establish a fundamental inequality for the modulus of derivative of a holomorphic covering mapping whose image is an annulus by virtue of the hyperbolic metric. The inequality is of independent significance. We make a simple survey on some domain constants for hyperbolic domains.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a transcendental entire function of finite order which has an attracting periodic point $z_0$ of period at least $2$. Suppose that the set of singularities of the inverse of $f$ is finite and contained in the component $U$ of the Fatou set that contains $z_0$. Under an additional hypothesis we show that the intersection of $\partial U$ with the escaping set of $f$ has Hausdorff dimension $1$. The additional hypothesis is satisfied for example if $f$ has the form $f(z)=\int_0^z p(t)e^{q(t)}dt+c$ with polynomials $p$ and $q$ and a constant $c$. This generalizes a result of Barański, Karpińska and Zdunik dealing with the case $f(z)=\lambda e^z$.

Abstract:Let f(z) be a transcendental meromorphic function. The paper investigates, using the hyperbolic metric, the relation between the forward orbit P(f) of singularities of f(-1) and limit functions of iterations of f in its Fatou components. It is mainly proved, among other things, that for a wandering domain U, all the limit functions of {f(n)\(U)} lie in the derived set of P(f) and that if f(np)\ v --> q (n --> +infinity) for a Fatou component V, then either q is in the derived set of S-p(f) or f(p)(q) = q. As applications of main theorems, some sufficient conditions of the non-existence of wandering domains and Baker domains are given.

Abstract:Motivated by the study of the summatory $k$-free indicator and totient functions in the classical setting, we investigate their function field analogues. First, we derive an expression for the error terms of the summatory functions in terms of the zeros of the associated zeta function. Under the Linear Independence hypothesis, we explicitly construct the limiting distributions of these error terms and compute the frequency with which they occur in an interval $[-\beta, \beta]$ for a real $\beta > 0$. We also show that these error terms are unbiased, that is, they are positive and negative equally often. Finally, we examine the average behavior of these error terms across families of hyperelliptic curves of fixed genus. We obtain these results by following a general framework initiated by Cha and Humphries.
