Abstract:A simulation approach was proposed to analyze the spectra of Doppler signals from the steady flow within a stenosed vessel. The vorticity transportation and stream function equations were used to calculate the velocity distribution within the stenosed vessel. The spectral power density function of Doppler signals was estimated at variant positions along the vessel. The maximum frequency, the mean frequency and the spectral bandwidth were calculated from the spectra, which were used to analyze the characteristics of Doppler signals from stenosed vessels with different degrees of stenoses and flow velocities.

Abstract:As a non-invasive method,the Doppler ultrasound technique is used to detect vessel stenosis.Doppler ultrasound signals from symmetric-stenosed vessels have already been studied.A computer simulation method is proposed in this paper to generate Doppler ultrasound signals from vessels with asymmetric stenosis.The blood flow velocity distribution in a stenosed vessel is first calculated using the transient finite element method(FEM).Power spectral density(PSD) of the Doppler signals is estimated using an overall-distribution nonparametric estimation method.Finally the Doppler signals are generated using the cosine-superposed method.The maximum frequency,the mean frequency and the spectral bandwidth are calculated from the spectra,used to analyze the characteristics of Doppler signals from stenosed vessels with different degrees of stenoses and flow velocities.From this sensitive parameters can be found for detection of vessel diseases.

Abstract:The rapid development of ultrafast ultrasound imaging based on the unfocused transmission of plane-wave has led to the widespread attention of clutter filtering technology, since the discrimination between tissue and blood motion is critical for non-contrast ultrafast Doppler imaging of blood flow. The increasingly used clutter filtering method, i.e., the singular value decomposition (SVD) is essentially a black-box technique, and the direct rejection of any singular vector corresponding to the first singular values will result in the potential loss of blood flow or residue of tissue activities. To cater for a better filtering performance, an adaptive clutter rejection method based on the fast multivariate empirical mode decomposition (FMEMD) is proposed, and compared to the high-pass filter (HPF) and SVD in the task of performing blood flow imaging and velocity profile estimation on signals collected from carotid arteries of 10 healthy human subjects. The results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the state-of-the-art techniques, especially for discriminating between blood flow and tissue signals near the vessel walls.

Abstract:A computer simulation method was proposed for Doppler ultrasound blood flow signals with the pulsation of the vascular wall, which was based on the physical models of the blood flow and the vascular wall. Simulated Doppler signals under various sample volumes were generated using this method. In the experimental studies, the mean frequency of the simulated signals were calculated and compared with the given waveforms. From the results, it was seen that this method was valid and could provide a convenient source for the further studies of the methods to separate the blood signal and wall pulsation signal.

Abstract:The conventional Doppler ultrasonic blood flow measurement systems use analog circuits to complete the signal acquisition and processing. Such instruments are susceptible to external electromagnetic interference, environment temperature changes and other factors, and it's difficult to implement modern signal processing algorithms to achieve more advanced detections, such as multi-depth detection, power M-mode Doppler and coded excitation. In this paper, a digital Doppler ultrasonic blood flow signal acquisition and processing system was designed, combined with the classic "autocorrelation technology" to achieve multi-depth detection and power M-mode Doppler. And the axial resolution of the system based on the 2-cycle base 13-chip Barker coded excitation was much better than the conventional method. The feasibility of the system was proved by the phantom test. In addition, the human cerebral artery measurement showed that the system could display the blood information on the path of the ultasound wave, and it was useful for the vessel positioning and identification.

Abstract:Three problems are studied in order to improve the performance of the Doppler angle estimation method based on the spectral bandwidth. They are the choice of the cardiac phase over which estimated angle result should be averaged,the calculation of the Doppler bandwidth and the estimation of the signal spectrum. A novel method is proposed in which the principal component analysis (PCA) is firstly used to de-noising signals,the angle is then estimated with the short fime Fourier transform(STFT),the average result is finally got over the anaphase of the systole. From the computer simulation experiments of carotid Doppler signals,it is foud that angles should be averaged over the anaphase of systole.In STFT method,the Doppler bandwith is well estimated using the mean frequency while either the mean frequency or the peak frequency can be used in AR modeling method. It is also seen that both STFT and AR modeling methods have advantage and disadvantage over each other in the Doppler angle estimation.With the proposed method,the anti-noise performance is greatly improved,which means that it is useful under the low Signal-to-Noise-Ratio(SNR) condition.

Abstract:Based on the different statistical characteristics of Doppler ultrasound blood flow signals and wall clutter signals,the non-uniform sampling and cubic spline reconstruction are applied to the mixed signals to obtain the wall signals,and consequently blood signals.This novel method,together with the traditional high-pass filtering method,is applied to both computer simulated Doppler ultrasound signals and collected human carotid Doppler ultrasound signals.The comparison experiments indicate that the proposed method can remove wall clutter signals with preservation of low frequency blood components,thus is suitable for the separation of the wall and blood signals in Doppler ultrasound systems.

Abstract:Blood flow velocity profiles are very useful in the research of vessel properties, and multi-channel pulsed Doppler system is often needed to detect the blood flow velocity profile. This system is not always feasible because of restriction between velocity and depth measurement and complicatedness of the system. In this paper, we propose a method to obtain the blood flow velocity profile from the relationship among the maximum and mean frequency estimated from Doppler shift signals. Detecting the Blood Flow Turbulence and Vortex Using the Doppler Ultrasound Technique

Abstract:It is very useful in the clinical diagnosis of vessel diseases to detect the blood flow turbulence and vortex using the Doppler ultrasound technique. The spectal width is overestimated as the result of window and nonstationarity broadening when the Doppler signal is analysed using the conventional short time Fourier transform. With a correction method used together, the estimation acuracy of the turbulence feature parameter, the spectal width, can be improved. Meanwhile the vortex shift waveform is obtained from the estimated mean frequency waveform using a suitable low-pass filter. Then the vortex shedding frequency and amplitude can be calculated. From the nalysis of simulated Doppler signals of known characteristics, it is seen that this technique can be used to detect the blood flow turbulence and vortex.

Abstract:A computer simulation approach was proposed for Doppler ultrasound signals from a steady flow in the stenosis. Simulated signals with various velocities at different positions along the vessel were generated on a PC. The spectral analyses were carried out for these signals. Several parameters, such as the maximum frequency, the mean frequency, and the spectral width, were calculated from the Doppler spectrum. Prom the experiment results, it was showed that this approach is valid for the Doppler signal simulation from a steady flow in the stenosis, improves the understanding of the Doppler signal from stenosis, and brings the convenience to the further feature extraction of these signals.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a Doppler radar sensor based approach capable of detecting both small- and large-scale biological motions. To fully recover the time domain motion information from backscattered microwave signals, the gradient descent and the extended DACM algorithms are utilized to solve the problems caused by DC offset and phase wrapping issues. Experimental results show that both Doppler bio-signals of the small-scale human cardiac motion and the large-scale human walk can be accurately detected. The proposed approach provides a generalized method for detecting different Doppler bio-signals in biomedical and healthcare applications.

Abstract:To explore the correlation between blood flow conditions and geometric factors for a bypassed coronary artery,a simulation method based on the computational dynamics models is employed to generate the Doppler ultrasound blood flow signals from bypassed coronary arteries with different grafting angles and distances.The variation of the simu- lated signal spectrum following that of the two factors is analyzed.Results show that the spectral bandwidth decreases with smaller angles at the toe and downstream of the anastomosis,thus the graft may have better post-operative effect.It is also seen that with a shorter grafting distance,the bandwidth increases near the heel of the anastomosis,however decreas- es at the toe and downstream area,which suggests a compromise in positioning the graft.Since analysis results are consis- tent with the outcomes of hemodynamic studies,they may be helpful to the coronary bypass surgery planning and the eval- uation of the post-operative effectiveness by the Doppler ultrasound technique.

Abstract:The existing methods for ultrasonic blood flow measurement were studied. The pulsed Doppler system and the autocorrelation method are essentially the same narrowband estimation methods with low velocity resolution and probably the aliased spectrum. Three wideband techniques are the time domain crosscorrelation technique, the wideband maximum likelihood estimation method and two-dimensional Fourier transform method, and these techniques can achieve high velocity resolution and low probability of aliasing.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel method was studied to diagnose the vessel disease using the feature of the maximum frequency waveform from the blood flow ultrasound Doppler signals. The sampled audio Doppler flow signals were analyzed using the short time Fourier transform. Then the percentile method was used to obtain the maximum frequency waveform from whose spectrum feature values were extracted to diagnose the vessel disease. From the clinical analysis of Doppler flow signals from the common carotid arteries, it was shown that the method described here gave a higher diagnosis accuracy than the conventional method, the sonogram parameter method.

Abstract:A novel approach based on radio frequency signal deconvolution is developed to estimating the velocities of blood flow and tissue motion without MTI filtering.In this method,the sampled sequences of the radio frequency echoes are transformed to the frequency domain by FFT algorithm firstly.Then these transformed sequences are deconvolved.Finally the velocities of the blood flow and the tissue motion can be obtained by a spectrum analysis of these deconvolved sequences.This approach has been applied to the simulated ultrasound echoes with two typical time-delay parameter sets.The validity of this method is examined by the comparison between the estimated velocities of blood and tissue motion and the given values.This approach is helpful to the measurement of the low-velocity blood flows.

Abstract:Modelling of received ultrasonic signals can provide basis for both signal analysis and process in various instrumentations based on ultrasonic measurement. At present, some empirical models where the resonance frequencies set to fixed values have been proposed for this purpose. However, significant errors can be found between the existing models and actual ultrasonic signals. This paper proposes a modelling method of received ultrasonic signal based on variable frequency analysis, which is then validated by application on ultrasonic gas flowmeter. In this method, the traditional exponential model is modified to contain a time-varying frequency parameter, whose value can be estimated by analyzing the sampled signal using the Teager Energy Operator (TEO). Other parameters in the model can be further determined by parameter estimation algorithms. In order to meet TEO's application conditions, a sinusoidal transformation of the received signal using Hilbert transform before the time-varying frequency estimation is proposed. Wavelet packet de-noising method, lag parameter and smoothing spline are introduced to improve the performance of the time-varying frequency acquisition in the presence of noise. A number of numerical tests are conducted on simulated signals with different time-varying frequencies and noise to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method. The actual application significance is validated by analysis of the actual received signals on ultrasonic gas flowmeter.

Abstract:A new method for quantitative measurement of blood flow velocity with Doppler ultrasound is presented. The principle of the precise velocity measurement at any angle and the method of calculation of the angle are described. The re-correction based on the practice is applied to improve the precision of the velocity measurement. Experimental results and comparisons of the method with the quasi-compensation are also given too.

Abstract:In this paper, an adaptive spectral doppler estimation based on recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm is proposed for blood velocity distribution estimation. The purpose is to (i) minimize the observation window needed to estimate the spectral distribution and get better temporal resolution, (ii) adaptive estimate the spectral distribution using the current data. An optimization problem is built and solved by matrix gradient method and Matrix Inversion Lemma to get the optimal weighting coefficients and adaptive realization. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed scheme can significantly realize the purpose.
