Abstract:To verify the application of design concept of partial concrete-filling in the integrally welded steel truss girders, two groups of T-shape partially concrete-filled and welded integral joint specimens were designed. Based on static horizontal and vertical loading tests, the influences of concrete filling length on mechanical behavior of joints, including joint stiffness, stress and strain distribution, ultimate bearing capacity, and failure modes, were thoroughly studied. The results show that after the chord has been partially or fully filled with concrete, the buckling failures of flanges of chord are avoided and the stresses in steel plates are evidently depressed. Furthermore, the stiffnesses, yield loads as well as ultimate bearing capacities of concrete-filled joints are significantly enhanced as compared with those of specimens with hollow chords; the differences between mechanical behavior of partially concrete-filled joints and fully concrete-filled ones are negligible.
