Abstract:Given a complex Banach space $X$ and a joint spectrum for complex solvable finite dimensional Lie algebras of operators defined on $X$, we extend this joint spectrum to quasi-solvable Lie algebras of operators, and we prove the main spectral properties of the extended joint spectrum. We also show that this construction is uniquely determined by the original joint spectrum.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the notion of joint eigenvalues and joint spectrum of matrices and operator tupples on a bi complex Hilbert space. We observe that unlike the spectrum of a bounded operator on a bi complex Hilbert space is bounded. But this is not the case here. Even the set of joint eigenvalues of matrix tuples is unbounded.

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{T} \equiv (T_1,\cdots,T_n)$ be a commuting $n$-tuple of operators on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, and let $T_i \equiv V_i P \; (1 \le i \le n)$ be its canonical joint polar decomposition (i.e., $P:=\sqrt{T_1^*T_1+\cdots+T_n^*T_n}$, $(V_1,\cdots,V_n)$ a joint partial isometry, and $\bigcap_{i=1}^n \ker T_i = \bigcap_{i=1}^n \ker V_i = \ker P)$. \ The spherical Aluthge transform of $\mathbf{T}$ is the (necessarily commuting) $n$-tuple $\hat{\mathbf{T}}:=(\sqrt{P}V_1\sqrt{P},\cdots,\sqrt{P}V_n\sqrt{P})$. \ We prove that $\sigma_T(\hat{\mathbf{T}})=\sigma_T(\mathbf{T})$, where $\sigma_T$ denotes Taylor spectrum. \ We do this in two stages: away from the origin we use tools and techniques from criss-cross commutativity; at the origin we show that the left invertibility of $\mathbf{T}$ or $\hat{\mathbf{T}}$ implies the invertibility of $P$. \ As a consequence, we can readily extend our main result to other spectral systems that rely on the Koszul complex for their definitions.

Abstract:The first half of this mostly expository note reviews some notions of joint spectrum of linear operators, and it gives a new characterization of amenable groups in terms of projective spectrum. The second half revisits an application of projective spectrum to the study of self-similar group representations made in [16]. In the case $\pi$ is the Koopman representation of the infinite dihedral group $D_\infty$ on the binary tree, it shows that the projective spectrum of $D_\infty$ coincides with the Julia set of a rational map $F_\pi: \mathbb{P}^2\to \mathbb{P}^2$ derived from the self-similarity of $\pi$. This improves the main result in [16].

Abstract:We derive a single inequality as the sufficient and necessary condition for two unsharp observables of a two-level system to be jointly measurable in a single apparatus and construct explicitly the joint observables of two jointly measurable observables. By introducing a generalized distinguishability as a measure of the unsharpness of an unsharp measurement, we derive a complementarity inequality, which generalizes Englert's duality inequality, from the condition of joint measurement of two orthogonal unsharp observables.

Abstract:We consider operators with random potentials on graphs, such as the lattice version of the random Schroedinger operator. The main result is a general bound on the probabilities of simultaneous occurrence of eigenvalues in specified distinct intervals, with the corresponding eigenfunctions being separately localized within prescribed regions. The bound generalizes the Wegner estimate on the density of states. The analysis proceeds through a new multiparameter spectral averaging principle.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of the joint spectral flow, which is a generalization of the spectral flow, by using Segal's model of the connective $K$-theory spectrum. We apply it for some localization results of indices motivated by Witten's deformation of Dirac operators and rephrase some analytic techniques in terms of topology.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{M}$ be a von Neumann algebra and let $A$ be a nonzero positive element of $\mathfrak{M}$. By $\sigma_A(T) $ and $r_A(T)$ we denote the $A$-spectrum and the $A$-spectral radius of $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, respectively. In this paper, we show that $\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)\subseteq \sigma_A(T)$. Sufficient conditions for the equality $\sigma_A(T)=\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)$ to be true are presented. Also, we show that $\sigma_A(T)$ is finite for any $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ if and only if $A$ is in the socle of $\mathfrak{M}$. Next , we consider the relationship between elements $S$ and $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ that satisfy one of the following two conditions: (1) $\sigma_A(SX)=\sigma_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, (2) $r_A(SX)= r_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$. Finally, a Gleason-Kahane-Żelazko's theorem for the $A$-spectrum is derived.% Finally, we introduce and study the notion of the $A$-approximate point spectrum for element of $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$.

Abstract:We obtain some results about the spectrum and the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum of weighted composition operators on uniform algebras, assuming that the corresponding map maps the Shilov boundary onto itself. In particular, it follows from our results that in the case of analytic uniform algebras the spectrum is a connected rotation invariant subset of the complex plane, and that the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum is rotation invariant as well.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the linear maps between semi-simple Banach algebras which compress any one of the spectrum, the left spectrum, the right spectrum, the intersection of left spectrum and right spectrum, the boundary of spectrum and the full spectrum. We prove that such linear maps are idempotent preserving. As applications, we characterize such maps in terms of Jordan homomorphisms on C*-algebras of real rank zero. In particular, we give several characterizations of isomorphisms between standard operator algebras by using such spectral function compressing linear maps and surjectivity spectrum compressing or approximate point spectrum compressing linear maps.

Abstract:We compute the joint spectrum of $D_{\infty h}$ with respect to the left regular representation, and finds two generators of the De Rham cohomology group of joint resolvent set which is induced by different central linear functionals. Through action of $D_{\infty h}$ on 4-ary trees, we get a self-similar realization of the group $C^*$ algebra of $D_{\infty h}$.
