Abstract:In this paper, we study the unbounded upper triangular operator matrix with diagonal domain. Some sufficient and necessary conditions are given under which upper semi-Weyl spectrum (resp. upper semi-Browder spectrum) of such operator matrix is equal to the union of the upper semi-Weyl spectra (resp. the upper semi-Browder spectra) of its diagonal entries. As an application, the corresponding spectral properties of Hamiltonian operator matrix are obtained.

Abstract:The spectral theory of operator matrices has several applications in elasticity, quantum mechanics, fluid dynamics, and other fields of mathematical physics. The study of operator matrices is more challenging when the involved operators are not single-valued and should be studied in the context of the theory of relations. In this paper, we utilize the connection between linear relations and their induced operators and use space decomposition methods to characterize the distribution of the spectrum for upper triangular relation matrices. We undertake the same for the essential spectrum, Weyl spectrum, and Browder spectrum. Under certain conditions, we obtain a Browder-type theorem and a Weyl-type theorem for such relation matrices.

Abstract:This paper deals with the symplectic self-adjointness and residual spectral emptiness of upper triangular Hamiltonian operator matrices . First, for symplectic self-adjoint Hamiltonian operator H , based on detailed classification of point spectrum and residual spectrum , the symmetry about imaginary axis is given between , , deficiency spectrum , compression spectrum and approximate point spectrum . Second, by means of the spectral symmetry, the sufficient and necessary conditions are given for , and , respectively. Then, for , it is proved that H is symplectic self-adjoint, if H is defined with diagonal domain . Finally, for defined with diagonal domain, using the space decomposition, the sufficient and necessary conditions for and are described in detail, respectively, by line operator, null space, and range of inner elements.

Abstract:In this paper, we give the Gershgorin's theorem of the 2 × 2 unbounded block operator matrix with bounded off-diagonal entries, and use the spectrum and the numerical range of diagonal entries to investigatethe spectral inclusion properties of some unbounded block operator matrices. In particular, for unbounded block operator matrices with symmetric (anti-symmetric) corners, we give more exact localization of spectrum by the quadratic numerical range and the Gershgorin's theorem.

Abstract:Let $ T_{B} = \left[\begin{array}{ll} A & B \\ 0 & D \end{array}\right] $ be an unbounded upper operator matrix with diagonal domain, acting in $ \mathcal H \oplus\mathcal K $, where $ \mathcal H $ and $ \mathcal K $ are Hilbert spaces. In this paper, some sufficient and necessary conditions are characterized under which $ T_{B} $ is Browder (resp., invertible) for some closable operator $ B $ with $ \mathcal D(B)\supset \mathcal D(D) $. Further, a sufficient and necessary condition is given under which the Browder spectrum (resp., spectrum) of $ T_{B} $ coincides with the union of the Browder spectrum (resp., spectrum) of its diagonal entries.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the notion of joint eigenvalues and joint spectrum of matrices and operator tupples on a bi complex Hilbert space. We observe that unlike the spectrum of a bounded operator on a bi complex Hilbert space is bounded. But this is not the case here. Even the set of joint eigenvalues of matrix tuples is unbounded.

Abstract:The research on spectral inequalities for discrete Schrödinger operators has proved fruitful in the last decade. Indeed, several authors analysed the operator’s canonical relation to a tridiagonal Jacobi matrix operator. In this paper, we consider a generalisation of this relation with regard to connecting higher order Schrödinger-type operators with symmetric matrix operators with arbitrarily many nonzero diagonals above and below the main diagonal. We thus obtain spectral bounds for such matrices, similar in nature to the Lieb-Thirring inequalities.

Abstract:The study of spectral properties of natural geometric elliptic partial differential operators acting on smooth sections of vector bundles over Riemannian manifolds is a central theme in global analysis, differential geometry and mathematical physics. Instead of studying the spectrum of a differential operator $L$ directly one usually studies its spectral functions, that is, spectral traces of some functions of the operator, such as the spectral zeta function $\zeta(s)=\Tr L^{-s}$ and the heat trace $\Theta(t)=\Tr\exp(-tL)$. The kernel $U(t;x,x')$ of the heat semigroup $\exp(-tL)$, called the heat kernel, plays a major role in quantum field theory and quantum gravity, index theorems, non-commutative geometry, integrable systems and financial mathematics. We review some recent progress in the study of spectral asymptotics. We study more general spectral functions, such as $\Tr f(tL)$, that we call quantum heat traces. Also, we define new invariants of differential operators that depend not only on the their eigenvalues but also on the eigenfunctions, and, therefore, contain much more information about the geometry of the manifold. Furthermore, we study some new invariants, such as $\Tr\exp(-tL_+)\exp(-sL_-)$, that contain relative spectral information of two differential operators. Finally we show how the convolution of the semigroups of two different operators can be computed by using purely algebraic methods.

Abstract:We investigate tensor products of Hilbert complexes, in particular the (essential) spectrum of their Laplacians. It is shown that the essential spectrum of the Laplacian associated to the tensor product complex is computable in terms of the spectra of the factors. Applications are given for the $\overline\partial$-Neumann problem on the product of two or more Hermitian manifolds, especially regarding (non-) compactness of the associated $\overline\partial$-Neumann operator.

Abstract:We consider a normal operator $T$ on a Hilbert space $H$. Under various assumptions on the spectrum of $T$, we give bounds for the spectrum of $T+A$ where $A$ is $T$-bounded with relative bound less than 1 but we do not assume that $A$ is symmetric or normal. If the imaginary part of the spectrum of $T$ is bounded, then the spectrum of $T+A$ is contained in the region between certain hyperbolas whose asymptotic slope depends on the $T$-bound of $A$. If the spectrum of $T$ is contained in a bisector, then the spectrum of $T+A$ is contained in the area between certain rotated hyperbola. The case of infinite gaps in the spectrum of $T$ is studied. Moreover, we prove a stability result for the essential spectrum of $T+A$. If $A$ is even $p$-subordinate to $T$, then we obtain stronger results for the localisation of the spectrum of $T+A$.

Abstract:This paper aims to provide a thorough characterization of the family of all Cantor-Bendixson derivatives of the spectrum, Browder spectrum, and the Drazin spectrum of bounded linear operators using projections and invariant subspaces. Furthermore, our findings demonstrate that if two commuting operators, R and T , satisfy the conditions that R is Riesz and T is a direct sum of an invertible operator and an operator with an at most countable spectrum, then can also be represented as a direct sum of an invertible operator and an operator with an at most countable spectrum.

Abstract:We study the essential numerical range of complex operators on a quaternionic Hilbert space and its relation with the essential S-spectrum. We give a new characterization of the essential numerical range relating it to the complex essential numerical range. Moreover, we show that the quaternionic essential numerical range of a normal operator is the convex hull of the essential S-spectrum.

Abstract:We prove new inequalities for the essential generalized and the essential joint spectral radius of Hadamard (Schur) weighted geometric means of bounded sets of infinite nonnegative matrices that define operators on suitable Banach sequence spaces and of bounded sets of positive kernel operators on $L^2$. Abstract:This paper is concerned with the closedness (closability), essential spectra and generator properties for a one-sided coupled operator matrix A0 acting in a product of Banach spaces X and Y . By combining the Browder Resolvent with the Schur factorization, some basic properties related to the operator entries of A0 are collected, including perturbations, closedness and spectra. Utilizing these results, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for A0 to be closed (closable), and the essential spectra as well as generator properties of A0 are further described.

Abstract:Consider a non-negative, self-adjoint, maximally subelliptic operator on a compact manifold. We show that the spectral multiplier is a singular integral operator under an appropriate Mihlin-Hörmander type condition. We establish the equivalence between non-isotropic Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces adapted to the operator and those adapted to a Carnot-Carathéodory geometry on the manifold. We also give a Mihlin-Hörmander type condition for the boundedness of the spectral multiplier on non-isotropic $L^p$ Sobolev spaces.

Abstract:We consider the class of bounded symmetric anti-linear operators $B$ with a cyclic vector. We associate with $B$ the spectral data consisting of a probability measure and a function. In terms of the spectral data of $B$, we introduce a functional model operator $\mathcal{B}$ acting on a model space. We prove an anti-linear variant of the spectral theorem demonstrating that $B$ is unitarily equivalent to $\mathcal{B}$. Next, we show that $B$ is also unitarily equivalent to an anti-linear tridiagonal operator and discuss connection with orthogonal polynomials in the anti-linear setting.

On the spectrum of a differential operator on a Hilbert-Pólya space

Abstract:In this paper we study the spectrum of a fundamental differential operator on a Hilbert-Pólya space. A number is an eigenvalue of this differential operator if and only if it is a nontrivial zero of the Riemann zeta function. An explicit formula is given for the eigenfunction associated with each nontrivial zero of the zeta function. Every eigenfunction is characterized via the Poisson summation formula by a sequence of mysterious functions whose explicit formulas are given.
