When central sequence C*-algebras have characters

Abstract:We investigate C*-algebras whose central sequence algebra has no characters, and we raise the question if such C*-algebras necessarily must absorb the Jiang-Su algebra (provided that they also are separable). We relate this question to a question of Dadarlat and Toms if the Jiang-Su algebra always embeds into the infinite tensor power of any unital C*-algebra without characters. We show that absence of characters of the central sequence algebra implies that the C*-algebra has the so-called strong Corona Factorization Property, and we use this result to exhibit simple nuclear separable unital C*-algebras whose central sequence algebra does admit a character. We show how stronger divisibility properties on the central sequence algebra imply stronger regularity properties of the underlying C*-algebra.

A Conjecture on C-matrices of Cluster Algebras

Abstract:For a skew-symmetrizable cluster algebra ${\mathcal{A}}_{t_{0}}$ with principal coefficients at $t_{0}$, we prove that each seed $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F4}_{t}$ of ${\mathcal{A}}_{t_{0}}$ is uniquely determined by its $C$-matrix, which was proposed by Fomin and Zelevinsky (Compos. Math. 143 (2007), 112–164) as a conjecture. Our proof is based on the fact that the positivity of cluster variables and sign coherence of $c$-vectors hold for ${\mathcal{A}}_{t_{0}}$, which was actually verified in Gross et al. (Canonical bases for cluster algebras, J. Amer. Math. Soc. 31(2) (2018), 497–608). Further discussion is provided in the sign-skew-symmetric case so as to obtain a weak version of the conjecture in this general case.
A Characterization of Indefinite-unitary Invariant Linear Maps and Relative Results

Abstract:Let A and B be unital C*-algebras, and let J ∈ A, L ∈B be Hermitian invertible elements. For every T ∈ A and S ∈ B, define Tj+ = J-1T*J and S+L = L-1S*L. Then in such a way we endow the C*-algebras A and B with indefinite structures. We characterize firstly the Jordan (J, L)-+-homomorphisms on C*-algebras. As applications, we further classify the bounded linear maps Φ: A →B preserving (J, L)-unitary elements. When A =B(H) andB =B(K), where H and K are infinite dimensional and complete indefinite inner product spaces on real orcomplex fields, we prove that indefinite-unitary preserving bounded linear surjectionsare of the form T → UVTV-1 (( )T ∈ B(H)) or T → UVT+V-1 (( )T ∈ B(H)),where U ∈ B(K) is indefinite unitary and, V: H → K is generalized indefinite unitary in the first form and generalized indefinite anti-unitary in the second one.Some results on indefinite orthogonality preserving additive maps are also given.

Abstract:This paper gives a complete classification of essentially commutative C*-algebras whose essential spectrum is homeomorphic to S2n-1 by their characteristic numbers. Let A(1), A(2) be such two C*-algebras; then they are C*-isomorphic if and only if they have the same n-th characteristic number. Furthermore, Let gamma (n)(A) = m; then A is C*-isomorphic to C*(M-zn,..., M-zn) if m = 0, A is C*-isomorphic to C*(T-z1,..., Tzn-1, T-zn(m)) if m not equal 0, Some examples are given to show applications of the classification theorem. We finally remark that the proof of the theorem depends on a construction of a complete system of representatives of Ext(S2n-1).

Abstract:Let $\mathbf{T} \equiv (T_1,\cdots,T_n)$ be a commuting $n$-tuple of operators on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, and let $T_i \equiv V_i P \; (1 \le i \le n)$ be its canonical joint polar decomposition (i.e., $P:=\sqrt{T_1^*T_1+\cdots+T_n^*T_n}$, $(V_1,\cdots,V_n)$ a joint partial isometry, and $\bigcap_{i=1}^n \ker T_i = \bigcap_{i=1}^n \ker V_i = \ker P)$. \ The spherical Aluthge transform of $\mathbf{T}$ is the (necessarily commuting) $n$-tuple $\hat{\mathbf{T}}:=(\sqrt{P}V_1\sqrt{P},\cdots,\sqrt{P}V_n\sqrt{P})$. \ We prove that $\sigma_T(\hat{\mathbf{T}})=\sigma_T(\mathbf{T})$, where $\sigma_T$ denotes Taylor spectrum. \ We do this in two stages: away from the origin we use tools and techniques from criss-cross commutativity; at the origin we show that the left invertibility of $\mathbf{T}$ or $\hat{\mathbf{T}}$ implies the invertibility of $P$. \ As a consequence, we can readily extend our main result to other spectral systems that rely on the Koszul complex for their definitions.

Abstract:We give a characterization of $C^*$-independence for $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded $C^*$-subalgebras of $\mathcal{B}(\mathcal{H})$ based on the Schlieder property. We provide other notions of statistical independence for $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded von Neumann algebras and prove some relationships between them. We provide a characterization for the graded nuclearity property.

We show that the universal enveloping $C^{*}$-algebras of $\mathrm{Pol}(\mathrm{Mat}_{2})_{q},$ $0<q<1,$ are isomorphic for all values of $q.$

Abstract:For a positive element $A$ of a $C^*$-algebra $\mathfrak{A}$, let ${\|X\|}_{A}$ denote the $A$-operator semi-norm of $X\in\mathfrak{A}$. In this paper, we aim to introduce and study the notion of $A$-spectrum for $X$ such that ${\|X\|}_{A}<\infty$. In particular when $A$ is well-supported, we establish an $A$-spectral permanence property for $C^*$-algebras.

Abstract:In this note, we present a new way to associate a spectral triple to the noncommutative $C^*$-algebra $C^*(\Lambda)$ of a strongly connected finite higher-rank graph $\Lambda$. We generalize a spectral triple of Consani and Marcolli from Cuntz-Krieger algebras to higher-rank graph $C^*$-algebras $C^*(\Lambda)$, and we prove that these spectral triples are intimately connected to the wavelet decomposition of the infinite path space of $\Lambda$ which was introduced by Farsi, Gillaspy, Kang, and Packer in 2015. In particular, we prove that the wavelet decomposition of Farsi et al. describes the eigenspaces of the Dirac operator of this spectral triple.

Abstract:Given a complex Banach space $X$ and a joint spectrum for complex solvable finite dimensional Lie algebras of operators defined on $X$, we extend this joint spectrum to quasi-solvable Lie algebras of operators, and we prove the main spectral properties of the extended joint spectrum. We also show that this construction is uniquely determined by the original joint spectrum.

Abstract:The Clifford spectrum is a form of joint spectrum for noncommuting matrices. This theory has been applied in photonics, condensed matter and string theory. In applications, the Clifford spectrum can be efficiently approximated using numerical methods, but this only is possible in low dimensional example. Here we examine the higher-dimensional spheres that can arise from theoretical examples. We also describe a constuctive method to generate five real symmetric almost commuting matrices that have a $K$-theoretical obstruction to being close to commuting matrices. For this, we look to matrix models of topological electric circuits.

Abstract:A Banach space characterization of simple real or complex $C^*$-algebras is given which even characterizes the underlying field. As an application, it is shown that if $\mathfrak A_1$ and $\mathfrak A_2$ are Birkhoff-James isomorphic simple $C^*$-algebras over the fields $\mathbb F_1$ and $\mathbb F_2$, respectively and if $\mathfrak A_1$ is finite-dimensional with dimension greater than one, then $\mathbb F_1=\mathbb F_2$ and $\mathfrak A_1$ and $\mathfrak A_2$ are (isometrically) $\ast$-isomorphic $C^*$-algebras.

Remarks on C*-discrete inclusions

Abstract:We show under certain constraints that $A$-valued semicircular systems give rise to C*-discrete inclusions, and thus are crossed products by an action of a tensor category. Along the way, we show the set of single algebraic generators of a dualizable bimodule forms an open subset. Furthermore, we obtain a Galois correspondence between the lattice of intermediate C*-discrete subalgebras intermediate to a given irreducible C*-discrete inclusion, and characterize these as targets of compatible expectations. Finally, we define ``freeness'' for actions of tensor categories on C*-algebras, and show simplicity is preserved under taking reduced crossed products.
