Abstract:The zero-IF receiver is widely used, and has the advantages of having a simplified structure, low design difficulty, and low power consumption owing to the elimination of an IF processing unit. However, limitations caused by device technology and design errors have resulted in the I/Q imbalance of the quadrature mixer circuit, which causes a sharp deterioration in the receiver's image rejection capability. Thus, the system's SNR and dynamic range are substantially affected. At the same time, due to the high power of the LO signal and the limited isolation between the mixer's RF and the LO port, the LO can be coupled to the RF link through the mixer, dielectric substrate, and space, and the DC signal can be obtained through self-mixing. The DC signal will be superimposed on the baseband signal, thereby reducing the SNR of the target signal and influencing the demodulation performance. This paper proposes an adaptive I/Q imbalance and DC offset calibration algorithm, which suppresses image frequency by removing the conjugate term, thereby automatically correcting I/Q imbalance. The DC component is also eliminated by achieving two consecutive Hilbert transforms. After testing, the proposed algorithm shows good calibration effect, simple implementation, low algorithm complexity, and high real-time performance.
