Such extensions are the best possible in the same sense as that of the Iyengar inequality. Abstract:Detailed analysis shows that the famous Iyengar inequality actually says that the Trapezoidal formula is a central algorithm for approximating integrals over an appropriate interval for the class of functions whose derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense. The inherent nonlinearity from central algorithms reflects the importance of the Iyengar inequality and thus makes familiar linear methods malfunction when one tries to generalize it. It is shown that the generalization depends on a nonlinear system of equations satisfied by a set of free nodes of a perfect spline. Explicit constructions are obtained in the spirit of the Iyengar inequality for the class of functions whose r th ( r ≤4) derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense because a closed solution to the nonlinear system is only available for r ≤4. Connections with computational mathematics, especially with best interpolation and best quadrature, are discussed. Numerical experiments are also included.

Abstract:In this research, a novel method for enhancing the Hölder–Işcan inequality through the utilization of both integrals and sums, as well as the mean power inequality, has been introduced. This approach outperforms traditional Hölder and mean power integral inequalities by employing a finite set of functions. Through the careful selection of the function φ , an entirely new category of classical inequalities emerges for both Hölder and mean power inequalities.

Abstract:Using the result of the error estimate of the simple extended Newton method established in the present paper for solving abstract inequality systems, we study the error bound property of approximate solutions of abstract inequality systems on Banach spaces with the involved function F being Fréchet differentiable and its derivative F^' satisfying the center-Lipschitz condition (not necessarily the Lipschitz condition) around a point x 0 . Under some mild conditions, we establish results on the existence of the solutions, and the error bound properties for approximate solutions of abstract inequality systems. Applications of these results to finite/infinite systems of inequalities/equalities on Banach spaces are presented and the error bound properties of approximate solutions of finite/infinite systems of inequalities/equalities are also established. Our results extend the corresponding results in [ 3 , 18 , 19 ].

Abstract:We consider conic inequality systems of the type$F(x)\ge_K 0$, with approximate solution $x_0$ associated to a parameter $\tau$,where $F$ is a twice Fréchet differentiable function between Hilbert spaces $X$ and $Y$, and$\ge_K$ is the partial order in $Y$ defined by anonempty convex (not necessarily closed) cone $K\subseteq Y$.We prove that, under the suitable conditions,the system $F(x)\ge_K 0$is solvable, and the ratio of the distance from $x_0$ to the solution set $S$ over the distance from $F(x_0)$ to the cone $K$ has anupper bound given explicitlyin terms of $\tau$ and $x_0$. We show that the upper bound is sharp.Applications to analytic function inequality/equality systems on Euclidean spaces are given,and the corresponding results of Dedieu [ SIAM J. Optim. , 11 (2000), pp. 411--425] are extended and significantly improved.

Abstract:We prove a generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya rearrangement inequality to positive definite matrices. The inequality can be seen as a commutation principle in the sense of Iusem and Seeger. An important instrument in the proof is a first-order perturbation formula for a certain spectral function, which could be of independent interests. The inequality is then extended to rectangular matrices. Using our main results, we derive new inequalities for several distance-like functions encountered in various signal processing or machine learning applications.

Abstract:Using the error bound results established in the present paper for approximate solutions, we study the stability issues when perturbed by possibly nonaffine smooth maps E for the abstract inequality system F >=(K) 0 defined by a (possible nonclosed) convex cone K and a Frechet differentiable function F satisfying the (extended) weak gamma-condition. We provide some sufficient conditions, in terms of the information at a solution x(0), for ensuring the lower semicontinuity and/or the Lipschitz-like continuity at x(0) of the solution mapping for the perturbed system F + E >=(K) 0 with smooth perturbation E. Explicit upper bounds of the Lipschitz-like moduli are also provided.
