Abstract:We prove the global existence and regularity of weak solution for the 2-D liquid crystal flows with the large initial velocity. The uniqueness of weak solution is also proved by using the Littlewood–Paley analysis.

Abstract:This paper concerns the initial boundary value problem of three-dimensional inhomogeneous incompressible liquid crystal flows with density-dependent viscosity. When the viscosity coefficient $\mu(\rho)$ is a power function of the density with the power larger than $1$, that is $\mu(\rho)=\mu\rho^\alpha$ with $\alpha>1$, it is proved that the system exists a unique global strong solution as long as the initial density is sufficiently large and $L^3$-norm of the derivative of the initial director is sufficiently small. This is the first result concerning the global strong solution for three-dimensional inhomogeneous liquid crystal flows without smallness of velocity.

Abstract:We investigate compressible nematic liquid crystal flows in three-dimensional (3D) bounded domains with slip boundary condition for velocity and Neumann boundary condition for orientation field. By applying piecewise-estimate method and delicate analysis based on the effective viscous flux and vorticity, we derive the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that the initial total energy is suitably small. Our result is an extension of the works of Huang-Wang-Wen (J. Differential Equations 252: 2222-2265, 2012) and Li-Xu-Zhang (J. Math. Fluid Mech. 20: 2105-2145, 2018), where the local strong solutions in three dimensions and the global strong solutions for 3D Cauchy problem were established, respectively. Moreover, it also shows that blow up mechanism for local strong solutions obtained by Huang-Wang-Wen (Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 204: 285-311, 2012) cannot occur if the initial total energy is sufficiently small.

Abstract:We consider a full Navier-Stokes and $Q$-tensor system for incompressible liquid crystal flows of nematic type. In the two dimensional periodic case, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global strong solutions that are uniformly bounded in time. This result is obtained without any smallness assumption on the physical parameter $\xi$ that measures the ratio between tumbling and aligning effects of a shear flow exerting over the liquid crystal directors. Moreover, we show the uniqueness of asymptotic limit for each global strong solution as time goes to infinity and provide an uniform estimate on the convergence rate.

Abstract:We study the long-time behavior of global strong solutions to a hydrodynamic system for nonhomogeneous incompressible nematic liquid crystal flows driven by two types of external forces in a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^2$. For arbitrary large regular initial data with the initial density being away from vacuum, we prove the decay of the velocity field for both cases. Furthermore, for the case with asymptotically autonomous external force, we can prove the convergence of the density function and the director vector as time goes to infinity. Estimates on convergence rate are also provided.

Abstract:The Cauchy problem for the three-dimensional compressible flow of nematic liquid crystals is considered. Existence and uniqueness of the global strong solution are established in critical Besov spaces provided that the initial datum is close to an equilibrium state $(1,{\bf 0}, \hat{{\bf d}})$ with a constant vector $\hat{{\bf d}}\in S^2$. The global existence result is proved via the local well-posedness and uniform estimates for proper linearized systems with convective terms.

Abstract:This paper considers the inhomogeneous biaxial nematic liquid crystal flow in a smooth bounded domain Ω⊂R2 , where the velocity u and the orthogonal unit vector fields (m,n) admit the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary condition, respectively. By applying piecewise estimate and continuity method, we get the global existence of strong solutions, provided that the basic energy is suitably small. Our result may be regarded as an extension and improvement of Gong-Lin (2022) and Li-Liu-Zhong (2017) to the Neumann boundary condition, where the initial vacuum is allowed. Some new techniques are developed in order to deal with integral estimates caused by the boundary condition, and more complicated model.

Under a geometric angle condition for the initial direction field, we show the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that . Abstract:We prove the global stability of small perturbation near the the constant equilibrium for the two dimensional simplified Ericksen-Leslie's hyperbolic system for incompressible liquid crystal model, where the direction function of liquid crystal molecules satisfies a wave map equation with an acoustical metric. This improves the almost global existence result by Huang-Jiang-Zhao. As byproducts, we obtain the sharp (same as the linear solution) decay estimates for the nonlinear velocity and the nonlinear wave part. Moreover the nonlinear wave part scatters to a linear solution as time goes to infinity.
