Abstract:The addition reaction of sulfonyl chlorides with acetylenes in the presence of a copper salt is described. The reaction proceeds in toluene in the presence of CuCl with Me2S as the additive to afford only (Z)-beta-chlorovinyl sulfones in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed highly stereoselective sulfonylation of vinylethylene carbonates for the precise synthesis of structurally diverse (Z)-allylic sulfones was achieved with excellent regioselectivity and stereoselectivity (Z/E ratio, up to 99 : 1). This protocol used inexpensive sodium sulfinates as sulfonyl sources to construct valuable (Z)-allylic sulfones in good to excellent yields. The controlling experiment suggested that the hydroxyl proton came from the alpha-hydrogen of sulfone group through 1, 5-H shift.

Abstract:A facile copper(II)-catalyzed regio- and stereocontrolled synthesis of vinyl sulfones from terminal alkynes and arylsulfonyl hydrazides is described. Depending on the source of copper(II), two different kinds of vinyl sulfones, (E)-vinyl sulfones and (Z)-beta-chlorovinyl sulfones were obtained and the addition of cyclohexanone played an important role in the reaction. These reactions display excellent chemoselectivity as well as stereoselectivity.

Abstract:A stereoselective synthesis of (E)-vinyl sulfones has been developed via electrochemical oxidative N-S bond cleavage of aromatic sulfonylhydrazides, followed by cross coupling reactions with cinnamic acids to form the C-S bond. The protocol proceeded smoothly to afford (E) -vinyl sulfones in good yields with wide substrate scope under metal-free and halogen-free conditions.

Abstract:Acetylenic stannanes (1) react with Cp2Zr(H)Cl (Cp=η5-C5H5) giving (Z)-α-stannylvinylzirconium complexes (2), which are trapped with sulfinyl chlorides (3) in THF at room temperature to afford (Z)-α-stannyl-1-alkenyl sulfoxides (4). The yields are 63–81%. The coupling of 4h with diphenyliodonium chloride in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4 and CuI afford (E)-α-phenyl unsaturated sulfoxide 5 in 75% yield.

Abstract:We describe a new method for the stereoselective synthesis of (Z)-1,2-dithio-1-alkenes via copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of (Z)-2-bromovinyl sulfides and thiols. The desired products are obtained in good to excellent yields. The double bond geometry of the starting (Z)-2-bromovinyl sulfides is retained under these reaction conditions.

Abstract:A practical and straightforward approach for the highly stereoselective synthesis of β-amino sulfones was developed. With lithium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide as the base, the corresponding sulfone-stabilized carbanion derived from alkylphenyl sulfone can be transferred to N-(tert-butylsulfinyl) aldimines in excellent yields and with high diastereoselectivity.

Abstract:Enantioselective sulfonylation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds from sulfur dioxide is achieved via the synergistic merger photoredox and hydrogen bonding catalysis. This approach provides a facile route to enantioenriched sulfones in the absence of transition metals by using DABCO·(SO2)2 as the sulfur dioxide surrogate. With this method, a variety of sulfones bearing a chiral centre in the α-position are prepared in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:The hydrochalcogenation of allenyl sulfones with sodium organyl chalcogenolates can proceed smoothly to give beta-phenylchalcogenyl allyl sulfones in high yields with exclusive regioselectivity. For the asymmetric allenyl sulfone, the reaction has both high regio- and stereoselectivity with the predominace of E-isomer. Some applications of beta-phenyltelluro and beta-phenylselanyl allyl sulfone in organic synthesis are also investigated.

Abstract:Sulfonyl hydrazones have been identified as an excellent sulfonyl anion surrogate in the base and Pd-0-catalyzed three-component tandem reaction with aryl iodides and allenes for the synthesis of functionalized allylic sulfones. By forming a stabilized six-membered palladacycle intermediate, the reaction led to the desired higher substituted allylic sulfones with excellent Z selectivities and high yields.
