Abstract:Selenoalkenyldicyclohexylboranes, prepared conveniently via hydroboration of internal alkylselenoacetylenes with dicyclohexylborane followed by iodination under basic conditions, produce cis/trans 1,2-disubstituted alkenyl selenides (1 and 2), which provide a general method for synthesis of cis/trans disubstituted alkenyl selenides containing a cyclohexyl group.

Abstract:Abstract Alkylselenovinyldialkylborane derivatives, obtained by hydroboration of terminal alkylselenoacetylenes 1 with dialkylboranes 2, were treated at -15°C with sodium methoxide and cuprous bromide-methyl sulfide to generate alkylselenovinylcopper intermediates which underwent stereospecific cross-coupling with allyl bromide to yield (E)-1-alkylseleno-1, 4-pentadienes 3. The compounds 3 were formed with retention of configuration predetermined from the stereochemistry of the initial alkylselenovinylboranes.

Abstract:An efficient aluminum-catalyzed selective hydroboration of alkenes and alkynylsilanes is reported. A wide variety of alkenes and alkynylsilanes bearing various functional groups and heterocyclic substituents were converted to boronic ester products in good yields with high selectivity. Mechanistically, density functional theory calculations favored a mechanism involving the insertion of the double bond into the Al–H species followed by C–Al/B–H metathesis.

Abstract:Triethoxysilane was found an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of E-alkenyl- and alkyldi-boronate esters by the single and sequential hydroboration of terminal alkynes respectively with pinacolborane. Mechanistic studies support that the formation of diboronate esters proceeds by a double hydroboration pathway with the steric and electronic profile at Si being key to enable the second hydroboration step. Weak non-covalent interactions involving the Si and the C≡C or C=C bonds in the alkynes or alkenylboronate esters have been identified as responsible for substrate activation toward the addition of HBPin, and the reaction of HSi(OEt)3 with HBPin as a catalyst deactivation pathway.

Abstract:The commercial reagent, HSi(OEt)3, was an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of E-alkenylboronate esters and alkyl gem-diboronate esters by single or double hydroboration of terminal alkynes with HBPin (pinacolborane). The reaction time controlled whether a single or a double addition of HBPin to the alkynes occurred. Aromatic terminal alkynes containing strong electron-donating or -withdrawing substituents at different positions as well as aliphatic alkynes were efficiently mono- and dihydroborated. Mechanistic studies suggested that the formation of diboronate esters proceeds by a double hydroboration with the second hydroboration cycle being the rate determining. The reaction of HSi(OEt)3 with HBPin has been identified as a catalyst deactivation pathway operative in catalysis. Screening of other silicon compounds for this transformation supported that the steric and electronic profile of HSi(OEt)3 is key to promote the second hydroboration step.

Abstract:Phenylseleno- and p-tolylsulfonyl substituted 1,3-dienes were conveniently prepared with high stereoselectivity by the elimination reaction of phenylseleno- and p-tolylsulfonyl substituted allyl alcohols in the presence of BF3·Et2O in acetic anhydride. The products were characterized by 1H NMR, MS, IR and elemental analysis. The single crystal structure of 2a was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:We herein report the regio- and chemoselective hydroboration of terminal alkynes with pinacolborane by a series of Constrained-geometry Catalyst-type or CGC-type rare earth metal monoalkyl complexes. This protocol offers a 100% atom-efficient and straightforward route for the synthesis of a variety of (E)-1-alkenylborons with the advantages such as high yield, high E-selectivity up to >99.9%, multiple metal center, broad substrate scope, broad functional-group tolerance, and no need for a solvent. A gram-scale synthesis and subsequent transformations of (E)-1-alkenylboron to several functional compounds suggest the practical applications of this synthetic methodology. The reaction mechanism has been explored through ESI-MS, isotopic labeling experiments, and in-situ 1H NMR spectroscopy

Abstract:Abstract Chiral organoborons are of great value in asymmetric synthesis, functional materials, and medicinal chemistry. The development of chiral bis(boryl) alkanes, especially optically enriched 1,1-diboron compounds, has been greatly inhibited by the lack of direct synthetic protocols. Therefore, it is very challenging to develop a simple and effective strategy to obtain chiral 1,1-diborylalkanes. Herein, we develop an enantioselective copper-catalyzed cascade double hydroboration of terminal alkynes and highly enantioenriched gem -diborylalkanes were readily obtained. Our strategy uses simple terminal alkynes and two different boranes to construct valuable chiral gem -bis(boryl) alkanes with one catalytic and one ligand pattern, which represents the simplest and most straightforward strategy for constructing such chiral gem -diborons.

Abstract:A novel three-component stereoselective synthesis of (E)-4-alkene 1,3-diketones from lithium selenolates, 1-(1-alkynyl)cyclopropyl ketones, and aldehydes is reported.
