Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed dehydrogenative B-H/C-H cross coupling of monocarborane anions with alkenes is reported, allowing for the first time the isolation of selectively penta-alkenylated boron clusters. The reaction cascade is regioselective for the cage positions, leading directly to B2-6 functionalization. Under mild and convenient conditions, styrenes, benzylic alkenes and aliphatic alkenes are demonstrated to be viable coupling partners with exclusive vinyl-type B-C bond formation. Multiple subsequent transformations provide access to directing group-free products, chiral derivatives and penta-alkylated cages. The five-fold coupling, combined with the latter reactions, represents a powerful methodology for the straightforward synthesis of new classes of boron clusters.

Abstract:Abstract Alkylselenovinyldialkylborane derivatives, obtained by hydroboration of terminal alkylselenoacetylenes 1 with dialkylboranes 2, were treated at -15°C with sodium methoxide and cuprous bromide-methyl sulfide to generate alkylselenovinylcopper intermediates which underwent stereospecific cross-coupling with allyl bromide to yield (E)-1-alkylseleno-1, 4-pentadienes 3. The compounds 3 were formed with retention of configuration predetermined from the stereochemistry of the initial alkylselenovinylboranes.

Abstract:Recent years have witnessed the growing interest in the remote functionalization of alkenes for it offers a strategy to activate the challenging C-H bonds distant from the initiation point via alkene isomerization/functionalization. However, the catalytic enantioselective isomerization/functionalization with one single transition metal catalyst remains rare. Here we report a highly regio- and enantioselective cobalt-catalyzed remote C-H bond borylation of internal alkenes via sequential alkene isomerization/hydroboration. A chiral ligand featured twisted pincer, anionic, and non-rigid characters is designed and used for this transformation. This methodology, which is operationally simple using low catalyst loading without additional activator, shows excellent enantioselectivity and can be used to convert various internal alkenes with regio- and stereoisomers to valuable chiral secondary organoboronates with good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:The direct and chemoselective conversion of the carbon-metal bond of gem-dimetallic reagents enables rapid and sequential formation of multiple carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds, thus representing a powerful method for efficiently increasing structural complexity. Herein, we report a visible-light-induced, nickel-catalyzed, chemoselective cross-coupling reaction between gem-borazirconocene alkanes and diverse aryl halides, affording a wide range of alkyl Bpin derivatives in high yields with excellent regioselectivity. This practical method features attractively simple reaction conditions and a broad substrate scope. Additionally, we systematically investigated a Bpin-directed chain walking process underlying the regioselectivity of alkylzirconocenes, thus uncovering the mechanism of the remote functionalization of internal olefins achieved with our method. Finally, DFT calculations indicate that the high regioselectivity of this reaction originates from the directing effect of the Bpin group.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:An efficient aluminum-catalyzed selective hydroboration of alkenes and alkynylsilanes is reported. A wide variety of alkenes and alkynylsilanes bearing various functional groups and heterocyclic substituents were converted to boronic ester products in good yields with high selectivity. Mechanistically, density functional theory calculations favored a mechanism involving the insertion of the double bond into the Al–H species followed by C–Al/B–H metathesis.

Abstract:Compounds with carbon-boron bonds are versatile intermediates for building more complex molecules via the elaboration of the carbon-boron bonds into other carbon-element bonds. The synthesis of carbon-boron bonds by catalytic dehydrogenative borylation of carbon-hydrogen bonds with dialkoxyboranes (RO)2BH is particularly attractive. It has been demonstrated for a variety of carbon-hydrogen bond types but not for the C(sp)-H bonds of terminal alkynes, for which hydroboration of the triple bond is a competing process. We report a new iridium catalyst that is strictly chemoselective for C-H borylation of terminal alkynes. The key to the success of this catalyst appears to be the new ancillary SiNN pincer ligand that combines amido, quinoline, and silyl donors and gives rise to structurally unusual Ir complexes. A variety of terminal alkynes (RC≡C-H) can be converted to their alkynylboronates (RC≡C-Bpin, where pin = pinacolate) in high yield and purity within minutes at ambient temperature.

Abstract:A series of O, N-chelated diarylborinates have been prepared and tested as arylboron counterpart alternative to oxygen-labile diarylborinic acids in palladium catalyzed Suzuki coupling of aryl chlorides. 3-Dimethylaminopropyl diarylborinates (B-5a), featuring a six-membered O, N-chelated boron ring that was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction, displayed a delicately balanced stability and reactivity. Their cross-coupling with structurally various aryl chlorides could be effected as efficiently as that of the parent diarylborinic acids by using 0.1∼1mol% Pd(OAc)2/IPr/P(OPh)3 as catalyst system, to provide the corresponding biaryls in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:On the basis of the chiral ion pair between catalytic anionic stereogenic-at-cobalt(III) complexes and halonium ion intermediates, an asymmetric halogenation/semipinacol rearrangement reaction has been established using N-bromosuccinimide as the halogen source. This protocol provides an alternative approach for accessing a diverse set of chiral β-bromocycloketones in good yields with high enantioselectivities (≤96% yield, 95.5:4.5 er).

Abstract:In the presence of catalytic amount of cesium hydroxide, the hydroselenation of terminal alkynes occurred in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at room temperature under nitrogen atmosphere to afford (E)-1-organseleno-l-alkene in high yields. The reaction mechanism is that selenols reacted with cesium hydroxide to give cesium selenides, which underwent nucleophilic addition to the alkynes to form selenium vinylic anion, hydrolyzed to give product (E)-1-organoselenovinylene and catalyst cesium hydroxide. The method could provide a new and expedient way for the hydroselenation of unactivated alkynes.

Abstract:Abstract An efficient protocol for the synthesis of β‐hydroxy(alkoxy)selenides was developed through the electrochemical iodide‐catalyzed oxyselenation of styrene derivatives with dialkyl(aryl)diselenides under mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic studies showed that the cation I+ is involved during the whole process, and accelerates the formation of seleniranium ion via substitution and addition reaction with dialkyl(aryl)diselenides and styrene derivatives. The corresponding products are formed in good to excellent yields. This electrochemical oxyselenation provides an efficient strategy for difunctionalization of alkenes.

Abstract:Unprecedented palladium-catalysed regio- and stereo-selective coupling reactions of homoallenylboronates with (hetero)aryl iodides, allyl bromides and alkynyl bromides in aqueous solution were successfully developed. The corresponding 1,3-dienes, skipped dienes and conjugate enynes were obtained as products, respectively, in high yields and with specific stereoselectivity. Therefore, the homoallenylboronates were potentially powerful and flexible "platform" molecules to form the complex 1,3-dienyl compounds.
