Abstract:In this paper, we prove propagation of $\frac{1}{s}$-Gevrey regularity $(s \in (0, 1))$ and analyticity $(s=1)$ for the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system on $\mathbb{T}^d \times \mathbb{R}^d$ (and $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$) using a Fourier space method in analogy to the results proved for the Euler system in [Kukavica and Vicol, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 2009] and [Levermore and Oliver, JDE, 1997] and for Vlasov-Poisson system in [Velozo Ruiz, Ann. Inst. H. Poincaré C Anal. Non Linéaire, 2021]. More precisely, we give quantitative estimates for the growth of the $\frac{1}{s}$-Gevrey norm and decay of the regularity radius for the solution of the system in terms of $\nabla_x u$, the spatial density $\rho_f$ and the diameter of the support in the velocity variable of the distribution of particles $f$. In particular, this implies existence of $\frac{1}{s}$-Gevrey $(s \in (0, 1))$ and analytic $(s = 1)$ solutions for the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system in $\mathbb{T}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$ (and $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$), and global Gevrey solutions in $\mathbb{T}^3\times\mathbb{R}^3$ for sufficiently small data, and an initial data for the Vlasov equation with compact support in velocity.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the partial regularity of the solutions for the three-dimensional Boussinesq equations. We first prove a criterion of local Hölder continuous of the suitable weak solutions of the Boussinesq equations, and show that one-dimensional Hausdorff measure of the singular point set is zero. Secondly, we present a local uniform gradient estimate on the suitable weak solutions and assert that the local behavior of the solution can be dominated by some scaled quantities, such as the scaled local L3-norm of the velocity. Besides, when the initial data v0 and θ0 decay sufficiently rapidly at ∞, the distribution of the regular point set of the suitable weak solutions is also considered. Based on it, one can find that MHD equations are more similar to Navier–Stokes equations than Boussinesq equations. Finally, we give a local regularity criterion of the suitable weak solutions near the boundary.

Abstract:We consider the n-dimensional ( $$n=2,3$$ ) Camassa–Holm equations with nonlocal diffusion of type $$(-\,\Delta )^{s}, \ \frac{n}{4}\le s<1$$ . In Gan et al. (Discrete Contin Dyn Syst 40(6):3427–3450, 2020), the global-in-time existence and uniqueness of finite energy weak solutions is established. In this paper, we show that with regular initial data, the finite energy weak solutions are indeed regular for all time. Moreover, the weak solutions are stable with respect to the initial data. The main difficulty lies in establishing higher order uniform estimates with the presence of the fractional Laplacian diffusion. To achieve this, we need to explore suitable fractional Sobolev type inequalities and bilinear estimates for fractional derivatives. The critical case $$s=\frac{n}{4}$$ contains extra difficulties and a smallness assumption on the initial data is imposed.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the inviscid limit for the periodic solutions to Navier–Stokes equation in the framework of Gevrey class. It is shown that the lifespan for the solutions to Navier–Stokes equation is independent of viscosity, and that the solutions of the Navier–Stokes equation converge to that of Euler equation in Gevrey class as the viscosity tends to zero. Moreover, the convergence rate in Gevrey class is presented. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Regularity for a class of degenerate fully nonlinear nonlocal elliptic equations

Abstract:We consider a wide class of fully nonlinear integro-differential equations that degenerate when the gradient of the solution vanishes. By using compactness and perturbation arguments, we give a complete characterization of the regularity of viscosity solutions according to different diffusion orders. More precisely, when the order of the fractional diffusion is sufficiently close to 2, we obtain Hölder continuity for the gradient of any viscosity solutions and further derive an improved gradient regularity estimate at the origin. For the order of the fractional diffusion in the interval $(1, 2)$, we prove that there is at least one solution of class $C^{1, \alpha}_{\rm loc}$. Additionally, if the order of the fractional diffusion is in the interval $(0,1]$, the local Hölder continuity of solutions is inferred.

Abstract:We study the zero viscosity-resistivity limit for the 3D incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations in a periodic domain in the framework of Gevrey class. We first prove that there exists an interval of time, independent of the viscosity coefficient and the resistivity coefficient, for the solutions to the viscous incompressible MHD equations. Then, based on these uniform estimates, we show that the solutions of the viscous incompressible MHD equations converge to that of the ideal incompressible MHD equations as the viscosity and resistivity coefficients go to zero. Moreover, the convergence rate is also given.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation in spatially inhomogeneous case. We prove the propagation of Gevrey regularity for the so-called smooth Maxwellian decay solutions to the Cauchy problem of spatially inhomogeneous Boltzmann equation, and obtain Gevrey regularity of order $1/(2s)$ in the velocity variable $v$ and order 1 in the space variable $x$. The strategy relies on our recent results for spatially homogeneous case (J. Diff. Equ. 253(4) (2012), 1172-1190. Abstract:We classify regularity for Lagrangian mean curvature type equations, which include the potential equation for prescribed Lagrangian mean curvature and those for Lagrangian mean curvature flow self-shrinkers and expanders, translating solitons, and rotating solitons. Convex solutions of the second boundary value problem for certain such equations were constructed by Brendle-Warren (J Differ Geom 84(2):267-287, 2010), Huang (J Funct Anal 269(4):1095-1114, 2015), and Wang-Huang-Bao (Calc Var Partial Differ Equ 62(3):74 2023). We first show that convex viscosity solutions are regular provided the Lagrangian angle or phase is and convex in the gradient variable. We next show that for merely Hölder continuous phases, convex solutions are regular if they are for sufficiently large . Singular solutions are given to show that each condition is optimal and that the Hölder exponent is sharp. Along the way, we generalize the constant rank theorem of Bian and Guan to include arbitrary dependence on the Legendre transform.

Abstract:In this article, we study the regularity theory for two linear equations that are important in fluid dynamics: the passive scalar equation for (time-varying) shear flows close to Couette in $\mathbb T \times [-1,1]$ with vanishing diffusivity $\nu \to 0$ and the Poisson equation with right-hand side behaving in similar function spaces to such a passive scalar. The primary motivation for this work is to develop some of the main technical tools required for our treatment of the (nonlinear) 2D Navier-Stokes equations, carried out in our companion work. Both equations are studied with homogeneous Dirichlet conditions (the analogue of a Navier slip-type boundary condition) and the initial condition is taken to be compactly supported away from the walls. We develop smoothing estimates with the following three features: [1] Uniform-in-$\nu$ regularity is with respect to $\partial_x$ and a time-dependent adapted vector-field $\Gamma$ which approximately commutes with the passive scalar equation (as opposed to `flat' derivatives), and a scaled gradient $\sqrt{\nu} \nabla$; [2] $(\partial_x, \Gamma)$-regularity estimates are performed in Gevrey spaces with regularity that depends on the spatial coordinate, $y$ (what we refer to as `pseudo-Gevrey'); [3] The regularity of these pseudo-Gevrey spaces degenerates to finite regularity near the center of the channel and hence standard Gevrey product rules and other amenable properties do not hold. Nonlinear analysis in such a delicate functional setting is one of the key ingredients to our companion paper, \cite{BHIW24a}, which proves the full nonlinear asymptotic stability of the Couette flow with slip boundary conditions. The present article introduces new estimates for the associated linear problems in these degenerate pseudo-Gevrey spaces, which is of independent interest.

Abstract:We present counter-intuitive examples of a viscous regularizations of a two-dimensional strictly hyperbolic system of conservation laws. The regularizations are obtained using two different viscosity matrices. While for both of the constructed ``viscous'' systems waves propagating in either $x$- or $y$-directions are stable, oblique waves may be linearly unstable. Numerical simulations fully corroborate these analytical results. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first nontrivial result related to the multidimensional Gelfand problem. Our conjectures provide direct answer to Gelfand's problem both in one- and multi-dimensional cases.

Abstract:This paper deals with: (1) the generalized additive eigenvalue problem \[ H(x,u(x),Du(x))=c, \quad x\in M, \] where the unknown is a pair $(c,u)$ of a constant $c \in \mathbb{R}$ and a function $u$ on $M$ for which $u$ is a backward weak KAM solution (or equivalently, viscosity solution) of the above equation; (2) the long-time behavior of viscosity solutions of the Cauchy problem for \[ w_{t}(x,t)+H(x, w(x,t), Dw(x,t))=c,\quad (x,t)\in M\times(0,+\infty). \] We assume $H=H(x,u,p)$ satisfies Tonelli conditions in the argument $p\in T^*_xM$ and the uniform Lipschitz condition in the argument $u\in\mathbb{R}$. First, we provide three necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of backward weak KAM solutions of the stationary equation for a given $c\in \mathbb{R}$. Second, we analyse the structure of the set $\mathfrak{C}$ of all real numbers $c$'s for which the stationary equation admits backward weak KAM solutions. Third, the long-time behavior of viscosity solutions of the Cauchy problem for the evolutionary equation is studied. Implicit Lax-Oleinik semigroups $\{T^\pm_t\}_{t\geqslant 0}$ play an essential role in this paper. The most important novelty in this work is to reveal several new aspects of existence and long-time behavior of viscosity solutions of the above equations without monotonicity assumptions $\frac{\partial H}{\partial u}\geqslant 0$ (or, $\frac{\partial H}{\partial u}\leqslant 0$): the propeties of the operator $T^+_t\circ T^-_t$ is used to provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of viscosity solutions of the stationary equation; three constants are introduced to analyse the structure of $\mathfrak{C}$; the information of $w$ in finite time partly determines the long-time behavior of $w$.
