Abstract:We investigate two special classes of matrices over GF(2) with certain interesting properties. These properties can be applied to construct nonsingular matrix pairs efficiently and thus provide a solution to the long-key problems of McEIiece's public-key cryptosystem.

Abstract:In this paper, two kinds of generalizations of ideal matrices, generalized ideal matrices and double ideal matrices. are obtained and studied, The concepts of generalized ideal matrices and double ideal matrices are proposed, and their ranks and maxima.linearly independent groups are verified.The initial motivation to study double cyclic matrices is to study the quasi cyclic codes of the fractional index. In this paper, the generalized form of the quasi cyclic codes, i.e. the {\phi}-quasi cyclic codes. and the construction of the generated matrix are given by the double ideal matrix.

This is a well-known result in group theory. In this paper, we prove two analogous theorems on matrices, which have independence significance. Specifically, let [math] be a given positive integer and [math] a complex square matrix satisfying that (i) all eigenvalues of [math] are nonnegative, and (ii) [math]; then [math] has a unique [math]-th root [math] with [math], all eigenvalues of [math] are nonnegative, and moreover there is a polynomial [math] with [math]. Abstract:Let G be an additive abelian group. The zero-sum problem for G asks for the least positive integer k such that for any a1, · · · , ak ∈ G there is an I ⊆ {1, · · · , k} of required cardinality satisfying ∑ i∈I ai = 0. In this talk we will introduce the famous theorem of P. Erdős, A. Ginzburg and A. Ziv (for G = Zn), and recent results of L. Rónya on the Kemnitz conjecture concerning the group Zn ⊕Zn, where Zn = Z/nZ is the additive cyclic group of residue classes modulo n. 1. The Erdős-Ginzburg-Ziv Theorem In 1961 P. Erdős, A. Ginzburg and A. Ziv [Bull. Research Council Israel, 10(1961)] established the following celebrated theorem. EGZ Theorem. Let n be any positive integer, and S = {ai} i=1 be a sequence of integers. Abstract:The Frobenius-König Theorem has a central role in combinatorial matrix theory; it characterizes when a (0,1) -matrix X contains a permutation matrix P (meaning P≤X entrywise). Our goal is to investigate similar questions for (0,±1) -matrices, and a main result is a Frobenius-König Theorem for the class of (0,±1) -matrices with all row and column sums being 1. Moreover, some related results are shown for alternating sign matrices.

Abstract:Zero-sum problems for abelian groups and covers of the integers by residue classes, are two different active topics initiated by P. Erdős more than 40 years ago and investigated by many researchers separately since then. In an earlier announcement [S03b], the author claimed some surprising connections among these seemingly unrelated fascinating areas. In this paper we establish further connections between zero-sum problems for abelian p-groups and covers of the integers. For example, we extend the famous Erdős-Ginzburg-Ziv theorem in the following way: If { a s (mod ns)} s=1 k covers each integer either exactly 2q − 1 times or exactly 2q times where q is a prime power, then for any c 1,...,c k ∈ ℤ/qℤ there exists an I ⊆ {1,...,k} such that ∑ s∈I 1/n s = q and ∑ s∈I c s = 0. The main theorem of this paper unifies many results in the two realms and also implies an extension of the Alon-Friedland-Kalai result on regular subgraphs.
Towards a conjecture on a special class of matrices over commutative rings of characteristic 2

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the conjecture posed by Keller and Rosemarin at Eurocrypt 2021 on the nullity of a matrix polynomial of a block matrix with Hadamard type blocks over commutative rings of characteristic 2. Therefore, it confirms the conjectural optimal bound on the dimension of invariant subspace of the Starkad cipher using the HADES design strategy. Moreover, we reveal the algebraic structure formed by Hadamard matrices over commutative rings from the perspectives of group algebra and polynomial algebra. An interesting relation between block-Hadamard matrices and Hadamard-block matrices is obtained as well.

Abstract:In some matrix formations, factorizations and transformations, we need special matrices with some properties and we wish that such matrices should be easily and simply generated and of integers. In this paper, we propose a zero-sum rule for the recurrence relations to construct integer triangles as triangular matrices with involutory, idempotent, nilpotent and unipotent properties, especially nilpotent and unipotent matrices of index 2. With the zero-sum rule we also give the conditions for the special matrices and the generic methods for the generation of those special matrices. Some of the generated integer triangles have been found by other methods, but most of them are newly discovered, and many combinatorial identities can be found with them. The results may also interest the economists for trading analysis and simulation.

On the construction of ultra-light MDS matrices

Abstract:In recent years, the Substitution-Permutation Network has emerged as a crucial structure for constructing symmetric key ciphers. Composed primarily of linear matrices and nonlinear S-boxes, it offers a robust foundation for cryptographic security. Among the various metrics used to assess the cryptographic properties of linear matrices, the branch number stands out as a particularly important index. Matrices with an optimal branch number are referred to as MDS matrices and are highly prized in the field of cryptography. In this paper we delve into the construction of lightweight MDS matrices. We commence implementation trees of MDS matrices, which is a vital tool for understanding and manipulating their implementations, and then present an algorithm that efficiently enumerates all the lightest MDS matrices based on the word representation. As results, we obtain a series of ultra-lightweight $4\times 4$ MDS matrices, remarkably, 4-bit input MDS matrices with 35 XOR operations and 8-bit input ones with 67 XOR operations . These matrices represent the most comprehensive lightweight MDS matrices available to date. Furthermore, we craft some involution $4\times 4$ MDS matrices with a mere 68 XOR <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://gates.To" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> our best knowledge, they are the best up to date. In the realm of higher-order MDS matrices, we have successfully constructed $5\times 5$ and $6\times 6$ matrices with 114 and 148 XOR gates respectively. These findings outperform the current state-of-the-art.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe non invertible matrix in GF(2)which can be used as multiplication matrix in Hill Cipher technique for one way hash algorithm. The matrices proposed are permutation matrices with exactly one entry 1 in each row and each column and 0 elsewhere. Such matrices represent a permutation of m elements. Since the invention, Hill cipher algorithm was used for symmetric encryption, where the multiplication matrix is the key. The Hill cipher requires the inverse of the matrix to recover the plaintext from cipher text. We propose a class of matrices in GF(2) which are non invertible and easy to generate.

Abstract:In 1993, Fishburn and Graham established the following qualitative extension of the classical Erdős-Szekeres theorem. If $N$ is sufficiently large with respect to $n$, then any $N\times N$ real matrix contains an $n\times n$ submatrix in which every row and every column is monotone. We prove that the smallest such $N$ is at most $2^{n^{4+o(1)}}$, greatly improving the previously best known double-exponential upper bound, and getting close to the best known lower bound $n^{n/2}$. In particular, we prove the following surprising sharp transition in the asymmetric setting. On one hand, every $8n^2\times 2^{n^{4+o(1)}}$ matrix contains an $n\times n$ submatrix, in which every row is mononote. On the other hand, there exist $n^{2}/6\times 2^{2^{n^{1-o(1)}}}$ matrices containing no such submatrix .

Abstract:We study solutions of a quadratic matrix equation arising in Riemannian geometry. Let $S$ be a real symmetric $n\times n$-matrix with zeros on the diagonal and let $\theta$ be a real number. We construct nonzero solutions $(S,\theta)$ of the set of quadratic equations \[\sum_kS_{i,k}=0\quad\text{ and }\quad\sum_{k}S_{i,k}S_{k,j}+S_{i,j}^2=\theta S_{i,j}\text { for }i<j.\] Our solutions relate the equations to strongly regular graphs, to group rings, and to multiplicative characters of finite fields.

Tight general bounds for the extremal numbers of 0-1 matrices

Abstract:A zero-one matrix $M$ is said to contain another zero-one matrix $A$ if we can delete some rows and columns of $M$ and replace some $1$-entries with $0$-entries such that the resulting matrix is $A$. The extremal number of $A$, denoted $\operatorname{ex}(n,A)$, is the maximum number of $1$-entries that an $n\times n$ zero-one matrix can have without containing $A$. The systematic study of this function for various patterns $A$ goes back to the work of Füredi and Hajnal from 1992, and the field has many connections to other areas of mathematics and theoretical computer science. The problem has been particularly extensively studied for so-called acyclic matrices, but very little is known about the general case (that is, the case where $A$ is not necessarily acyclic). We prove the first asymptotically tight general result by showing that if $A$ has at most $t$ $1$-entries in every row, then $\operatorname{ex}(n,A)\leq n^{2-1/t+o(1)}$. This verifies a conjecture of Methuku and Tomon.

Abstract:We consider 9 Gaussian matrix ensembles characterized by single symmetry among the 38-fold symmetry classification classes of non-Hermitian random matrices, and establish exact duality formulae of certain observables between them. Particularly, averaged products of K characteristic polynomials in an N×N matrix ensemble can be expressed in terms of another K×K matrix ensemble. Our method is to combine matrix-valued heat equations and differential identities for determinants and Pfaffians and has more possible applications.

On the invertibility of matrices with a double saddle-point structure

Abstract:We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for invertibility of symmetric three-by-three block matrices having a double saddle-point structure \fb{that guarantee the unique solvability of double saddle-point systems}. We consider various scenarios, including the case where all diagonal blocks are allowed to be rank deficient. Under certain conditions related to the nullity of the blocks and intersections of their kernels, an explicit formula for the inverse is derived.
