Abstract:A generalized Einstein-Hilbert functional in Finsler geometry is defined and its Euler-Lagrange equation is derived, which depends on not only the Ricci scalar but also the mean Landsberg curvature. Such critical metrics include usual Riemann-Einstein metrics. Some non-Riemannian examples of critical metrics are given. Moreover, some rigidity theorems for a Finsler metric to be Riemannian are obtained.

Abstract:International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we characterize a class of singular Douglas [math]-metrics [math] determined by [math] on a two-dimensional manifold [math], where [math], [math] is a Riemannian metric and [math] is a 1-form on [math]. When [math] and under certain conditions about [math], we show that any such a metric is a Douglas metric if and only if it is a Finsler metric derived from a [math]-transformation of an [math]-Kropina metric. For such a special class of singular [math]-metrics, we further completely determine their local structure when they are, respectively, Douglasian and locally projectively flat. In particular, we show that a Kropina metric is always Douglasian and a Douglas [math]-Kropina metric with [math] is locally Minkowskian on a two-dimensional manifold. The main results in this paper are quite different from the results in the higher dimension case.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Finsler metrics expressed in terms of a Riemannian metric, an 1-form, and its norm. We find equations which are sufficient conditions for such Finsler metrics to have constant Ricci curvature. Using certain transformations, we successfully solve these equations and hence construct a large class of Einstein metrics.

Abstract:Finsler manifolds are differentiable manifolds equipped with Riemannian metrics without the quadratic restriction. In this paper, some recent developments and new results on curvatures and fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds are summarized briefly. The contents contain the growth of fundamental groups, the entropy of manifolds and fundamental groups, the first Betti number and the finiteness of fundamental groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a Gauss–Bonnet–Chern formula for real Finsler vector bundles with respect to any metric-compatible connection. The key idea is to modify any given metric-compatible connection to be a new metric-compatible connection with some special properties. As a corollary, a Gauss–Bonnet–Chern formula for Finsler manifolds with respect to any metric-compatible connection is established.

Abstract:The conformai properties of complex Finsler metrics are studied. We first give a characterization of a compact complex Finsler manifold to be globally conformai Kahler. By considering the total holomorphic curvature and total Ricci curvature in the volume preserved conformal classes, we then study the variational properties of Kahler Finsler metrics. By studying the spectral properties of two average metrics, the stabilities of critical Kähler Finsler metrics are verified. Finally, a Yamabe type problem for mean holomorphic Ricci curvature is considered, and a partial existence result is obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, the Douglas curvature of (α,β)-metrics, a special class of Finsler metrics defined by a Riemannian metric αand a 1-form β, is studied. These metrics with vanishing Douglas curvature in dimension n≥3 are classified by using a new class of metrical deformations called β-deformations. The result shows that conformal 1-forms of Riemannian metrics play a key role, and an effective way to construct such 1-forms is provided also by β-deformations.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a class of Finsler metrics, called generalized Douglas–Weyl (GDW) metrics, which includes Douglas metrics and Weyl metrics. We find a sufficient and necessary condition for an orthogonally invariant Finsler metric to be a GDW-metric. As its application, we show that a certain class of Finsler metrics with orthogonal invariance are Douglas metrics if they are GDW-metrics, generalized a theorem previously only known in the case of Weyl metrics.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the representation theory of compact Lie groups to prove that the degree of symmetry of a closed manifold can be realized by a non-Riemannian Finsler metric unless the manifold is diffeomorphic to a rank-one Riemannian symmetric space. As a by product, we obtain a sufficient and necessary condition for a coset space of a Lie group to admit invariant non-Riemannian Finsler metrics.

Abstract:AbstractIn this paper, we study the warped structures of Finsler metrics. We obtain the differential equation that characterizes Finsler warped product metrics with vanishing Douglas curvature. By solving this equation, we obtain all Finsler warped product Douglas metrics. Some new Douglas Finsler metrics of this type are produced by using known spherically symmetric Douglas metrics.

Abstract:Square metrics F=(α +β )^2/α are a special class of Finsler metrics. It is the rate kind of metric category to be of excellent geometrical properties. In this paper, we discuss the so-called singular square metrics F=(bα +β )^2/α . A characterization for such metrics to be of vanishing Douglas curvature is provided. Abstract:Spherically symmetric metrics and Randers metrics form two rich classes of Finsler metrics. In this paper, we find an equation that characterizes pointwise projectively related spherically symmetric metrics. Some applications are given. In particular, by using known spherically symmetric metrics, we produce a lot of Randers metrics of quadratic Weyl curvature which are non-trivial in the sense that they are not of Weyl type.
