Abstract:The well-ordered polyhydroxyacetato-Cr3+ species intercalated molybdenum trioxide by the reaction of an aqueous solution of Cr(OAc)3 with a dispersion of layered sodium molybdenum bronze ([Na(H2O)5]0.25MoO3) was prepared. X-ray fluoroscopy (XRF), TGA and near/UV–VIS spectra showed that the intercalates may mainly be trimers and tetramers. The first chromia-pillared molybdenum trioxide with an interlayer distance of 10.9Å was then obtained after calcined at 350°C in a flow of mixed nitrogen and oxygen (4% O2, v/v). The obtained porous material has a surface area of 82.4m2g−1, with ca. 60% of pores having rp<20Å. XPS result suggested that the chromia pillars existed as Cr2O3 in the interlayer of the material.

Abstract:The first chromia-pillared tetratitanate is prepared by the reaction of the layered tetramethylammonium-intercalated tetratitanate with an aqueous chromium(III) acetate followed by calcination at 400°C. The new porous material has a specific surface area as high as 94 m2g−1and an interlayer distance of 1.06 nm along with a moderately strong acidity. Abstract:Oligomeric chromium(III)-intercalated titanoniobate has been prepared by the intercalation of propylamine into KTiNbO5 followed by substitution of propylammonium for tetramethylammonium and finally refluxing with an aqueous solution of Cr(O(2)CMe)(3). The first chromia-pillared layered titanoniobate was then obtained by calcination of oligomeric chromium(III)-intercalated titanoniobate at 400 degrees C in a flow of N-2. Characterization of chromia-pillared titanoniobate revealed that the material has the porous layered structure with a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of 122.4 m(2) g(-1) and an interlayer distance of 13.4 Angstrom as well as a narrow pore-size distribution in the range 30-46 Angstrom. The layered structure can be retained up to 500 degrees C. However, calcination of the oligomeric chromium(III)-intercalated titanoniobate in air at the same temperature led to a product with a low Surface area and a small interlayer space. X-Ray photoelectron studies indicate the existence of different states of chromia in the products obtained in the different atmospheres. The IR spectra of the pyridine-adsorbed material and the ammonia temperature-programmed desorption profile demonstrate the presence of a large amount of acid sites with medium strength on the surface of the new chromia-pillared material. Isopropyl alcohol decomposition confirms the existence of only acid sites in the sample.

Abstract:Porous copper oxide has been synthesized via copper oxalate precursor, which was prepared in mild condition without any template or additive. Powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and nitrogen physisorption method are used to characterize various properties of the obtained samples. SEM analyses show that the precursor morphology was maintained after calcination, and the obtained hierarchically copper oxide was built up of nanocrystals. Nitrogen physisorption analyses show that copper oxide samples were very porous. The porous material could be found application in catalysis field.

Abstract:The major factors affecting the preparation of chromia-pillared α-zirconium phosphate, such as the type of organic amines, the preswelling status of the phosphate sheets, hydrolysis degree of HPO4 2- and Cr(OAc)3 concentration, were investigated in detail. A chromia-pillared material with surface area of 482 m2/g and narrow pore-size distribution of ca 2.6 nm has been prepared by one-step colloidization with ethylamine. A certain degree of hydrolysis of α-ZrP in amine solution helps to obtain pillared materials with high surface area and narrow pore distribution. The formation and stability of the chromia pillars in the material were studied by TG, IR, XRD and N2 adsorption-desorption methods. Isopropanol dehydration and cumene cracking reactions on the pillared materials show that they have medium or both medium and weak acid sites on the surface. The chromia-pillared catalyst is more active than ordinary Cr2O3/SiO2 supported catalyst for dehydrogenation of cyclohexane and ethylbenzene.

Abstract:The first chromia-pillared layered tetratitanate was prepared by the reaction of layered tetramethy-lammonium tetratitanate with chromium（Ⅲ） acetate [Cr（OAc）3] aqueous solution and subsequent calcination of the resultant solid product in air at 400℃. The obtained chromia-pillared layered tetratitanate has an interlayer distance of 1.06 nm and a high thermal stabih’ty up to 600℃. It was also found that calcination in N2 led to the chromia-pillared layered tetratitanate with relatively higher Brunauer-Emmett-Teller （BET） specific surface area （93.9 m2·g-1） and smaller average pore diameter （4.44 nm） than that in air （82.0 m2·g-1, 7.61 nm） . Both Bronsted and Lewis acid sites （mainly Lewis type） are present on the chromia-pillared layered tetratitanate （500℃, N2, 8 h） and strong enough to still remain a small proportion of pyridine upon outgassing at 250℃. Abstract:Chromia-pillared zirconium phenylphosphonate and phosphate were prepared via preswelling the layered phosphates by ethylamine prior to the intercalation of the pillaring species. The Cr contents of the pillared materials reach 22.5% ∼ 36.5%. They have surface areas in the range of 316 ∼ 462m2/g and narrow pore size distributions with > 70% mesoporosity. The diameters of the mesopores are centered around 2nm. The pillared zirconium phenylphosphonates are thermally more stable than the pillared zirconium phosphates. The chromia - pillared materials are efficient catalysts for selective oxidation of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, cyclohexane, cyclohexene, n-heptane and n-butanol using 30% H2O2 as oxidant. Their catalytic activities are much higher than those of CrAPO-11 and CrMCM-41.

Abstract:The first chromia-pillared layered lanthanum niobic acid was prepared by an ion-exchange route, in which n-hexylamine-pre-expanded lanthanum niobate reacted with chromium(Ill) acetate [Cr(OAC)3] aqueous solution under reflux condition, and the ion-exchanged product was calcined at 450 degrees C in air flow. The structure of the novel pillared material was examined by means of various analytical techniques, such as powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric and differential analysis (TG/DTA), nitrogen adsorption-desorption, and transmission electron micrographs (TEM). The chromia-pillared layered lanthanum niobic acid exhibited a porous layered structure with a BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) surface area of 89 m(2)center dot g(-1) and an interlayer distance of 1.31 nm. Abstract:his paper mainly reports that by first preswelling layered niobic acid (HNb\-3O\-8·H\-2O) with n propylamine and then ion exchanging with (CH\-3)\-4NCl, and finally reacting with an aqueous solution of Cr(OAc)\-3, a Cr\+\{3+\} polyhydroxyacetato intercalated niobate can be obtained. Further calcinating the obtained Cr\+\{3+\} polyhydroxyacetato intercalated niobate in N\-2 at 400℃ for 2h gives rise to the chromia pillared layered niobate. The resulting material has a relatively high thermal stability (700℃) and a BET specific surface area (66.7 m\+2/g), and can be considered as a new kind of porous solid acid with moderate acid strength(average pore diameter is 3.3 nm, total acid ammout is 188.3 \{μmol/g,\} mainly Lewis type). \;

Microporous and Mesoporous Materials

Abstract:A “direct mixing” synthesis strategy has been demonstrated for the first time that allows fast (e.g., 0.5 h) synthesis of bulk quantity of thermally stable and highly porous metal–organic coordination polymers (MOCP) nanocrystals (30–150 nm diameter) at room temperature with high yield (∼90%). The MOCP materials constructed from Zn(NO3)2·6H2O and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2BDC) were characterized with scanning electron microscope, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, FT-IR, and volumetric Ar adsorption/desorption. The direct mixing method also produced a highly porous nanometer-sized MOCP material, which is likely to be a new phase that has not been discovered by the more commonly used “diffusion” approach. “Soft” and “hard” template approaches were used to successfully manipulate the morphology of MOCP materials at nanometer scale. In addition, water molecules were shown to play an important role in the synthesis and eventual composition of MOCP materials. Exposure of MOCP materials to water resulted in dramatic drop in surface area and porosity because of possible hydrolysis of the framework. An acid hydrolysis process of MOCP materials was also revealed in which the crystals could be hydrolyzed back into metal salts and organic acid under acid treatment.

Abstract:A high surface area molybdenum phosphide (MoP) was successfully synthesized by combining citric acid (CA) and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) (CA-TPR) method. Reduction of the precursor which was modified by citric acid produced MoP with a high surface area of 122.0m2g−1 under optimum conditions. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) results showed that the chelating interaction between the moderate amount of citric acid and the molybdenum ion was effective in suppressing the aggregation of Mo during drying through the formation of a molybdenum citrate, which was decomposed in calcination. Reduction of the precursor from the CA-TPR method showed an obvious decrease in degree of the aggregation of the MoP particles when compared to that from the conventional TPR method. The MoP prepared by the CA-TPR method was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption–desorption, TPR, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and CO adsorption microcalorimetry. An increase in reduction temperature led to the formation of MoP crystalline and a change of morphology. The increase of surface area in the reduction process was a result of the formation of pores. The porous MoP from the CA-TPR method had a higher CO chemisorption uptake than from the conventional TPR method, indicating that the high surface area MoP possessed more active sites. The preliminary testing showed that the high surface area MoP exhibited a superior activity for hydrazine decomposition with a conversion of 85%, which was much higher than the conventional MoP of 55%.

Abstract:Molybdenum nitrides and oxynitrides have been increasingly realized as (electro)catalysts for a variety of reactions. In this context, the cubic "γ-Mo2N", also known to contain oxygen in the bulk, is of particular interest. The γ phase is typically derived from ammonolysis of MoO3, and a high temperature is needed to fully react the stable MoO2 intermediate that often forms along the reaction pathway. In this study, ammonolysis of atypical bronze (HxMoO3) and peroxo (H2MoO5) precursors was undertaken to avoid the formation of this undesired intermediate with the aim of synthesizing "γ-Mo2N" at reduced temperatures and thus with a high surface area. It was found, using in situ powder diffraction, that, when the phase I bronze (x ≈ 0.3) served as the precursor, MoO2 formed as an intermediate and was retained in the reaction product until 700 °C. In contrast, ammonolysis of the phase III bronze (x ≈ 1.7) and of H2MoO5 circumvented the MoO2 intermediate. From these latter two precursors, "γ-Mo2N" was formed at the lowest maximum reaction temperatures reported in the literature, namely, 480 °C in the case of HxMoO3-III and 380 °C for H2MoO5. The resulting products displayed extremely high surface areas of 206 and 152 m2/g, respectively, presumably as a consequence of the low synthesis temperatures. While the HxMoO3-III precursor showed evidence of a topotactic transformation pathway, with morphological similarity between precursor and product phases, H2MoO5 transformed via amorphization. Electrochemical characterization showed moderate activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), which increased after exposure to reducing potentials and loosely scaled with the catalyst-specific surface area. This work points toward new low-temperature synthesis pathways for accessing molybdenum (oxy)nitrides with high surface areas.

Abstract:PbMoO4 nanoparticles and pagodalike microcrystals have been controllably prepared by a simple sonochemical method without any surfactants. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the pH played a crucial role on the controllable synthesis of PbMoO4. Pagoda like microcrystals could be formed on acid condition, and nanocrystals were obtained in the case of pH 7 and pH 14. The synthesis mechanism was also discussed. Abstract:Abstract Based on the raw material of ammonium tetramolybdate in the experiment, molybdenum trioxide was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis, and the effects of different pH, hydrothermal reaction time, filling degree, and calcination temperature on molybdenum trioxide powder were studied. Meanwhile, the molybdenum trioxide powder was characterized through scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermal analysis differential scanning calorimetry analysis so as to study the morphology and phase changes during the experiment. As is evident from the research findings, MoO 3 powders with uniform and suitable size, smooth and clear surface, good dispersibility, and no adhesion can be obtained at the conditions of pH = 1, 16 h hydrothermal reaction, 90% of filling degree, and 550°C of calcination temperature. In the calcination process, MoO 3 crystal undergone crystal transformation and was completely transformed from h-MoO 3 to α-MoO 3 at the calcination temperature of 350°C.

Abstract:This paper reports a novel micro-porous fluorinated chromia with a sharp pore distribution from 0.5 nm to 1.5 nm. The mentioned fluorinated chromia has a 105.1 m(2) g(-1) surface area and an excellent chemical stability in the presence of strong corrosive media such as HF, HCl and thermo-stability under 300 degrees C. A facile process for preparing the target material is carried out by controlling the decomposition rate of urea in a solution of chromium chloride to obtain its precursor, chromia, which has a narrow pore distribution in the range from 0.5 nm to 1.5 nm. Then the chromia is treated with HF via vapor-phase fluorination to obtain porous fluorinated chromia. The prepared material has been used as a fluorination catalyst with a high catalytic activity, and could be a potential membrane material and sorption media.

Abstract:Abstract Cr-doped mesoporous silicas with a two-dimensional hexagonal mesopore structure as well as with a cubic mesoporous framework have been synthesized by using 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride as structure directing agent template and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and Cr (NO 3 ) 3 ·9H 2 O as precursors via hydrothermal synthesis method under alkaline conditions. The effects of the concentration of chromate on hexagonal mesophase and the reaction time on cubic mesophase were discussed in detail. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction andthermogravimetry (TG) techniques. The results show that the template has been completely removed when the sample is calcined at 550°C; the ordered long-range mesostructure with hexagonal and cubic phases can be obtained by adding appropriate amount of chromium salt.
