He Zhizhang's Literary World

Abstract:He Zhizhang,who called Li Bai as "an immortal banished from Heaven",was one of the most influential writers during the Tang Dynasty.He was once promoted to the position of Mishujian.And at the age of about eighty,he became a Taoist.He was quite accomplished in calligraphy,especially his cursive writing.However,except for a few well-known poems,his whole literary attainments were hardly recognized by scholars.Through years of research work,the author of this paper,has compiled a book named A New Collection of He Zhizhang's Works and thereby accumulated more knowledge and new understandings about He Zhizhang's literary activities and achievements.In his poems,he mainly reflected his own straightforward and uninhibited nature.And his poems which express emotions of nostalgia and farewell,record travel experiences and describe Jiangnan customs are of high attainment.In addition,he also wrote a large number of epitaphs which have been discovered in many places.He was the author of the largest number of the epitaphs unearthed in the past hundred years.These epitaphs were mainly written for people with special character and of high attainment,which can be regarded as biographies.
