Abstract:Shimen was a made-made tunnel dug at the south end of the Baoxie Valley.As a gateway tunnel leading from the Guanzhong Plains to Sichuan in the Qinling Mountains in ancient times,Shimen carries large quantities of scenic spots and relics,the majority of which are graphic carvings.Many of these carved inscriptions were varieties of literary works written by famous men of letters.For literary styles,there were eulogies,inscriptions,epigraphs,accounts,poetic prose and poems.For documentary matters,what were recorded were many and various,including personalities,events,scenic spots,travel accounts.And for artistic taste,the works were narrative,lyrical and documentary.

Abstract:This article analyzes the relations between the Chinese writer Lu Xun and Soviet engravings. Lu Xun is attributed to one of the most prominent Chinese literary figures of the past century. His significant contribution to the development of culture also consists in the fact that in the 1930’s he collected, edited and published a substantial amount of Soviet engravings. This is why his is known in China as the “Founder of the collection of wood engravings”. The article represents an cross-disciplinary research in the field of art history, culturology and literature, particular in the area of history of Soviet art and Chinese literature. The research elucidates the key milestones of life path of Lu Xun, associated with the increase of cultural level of Chinese young students through familiarization of majority of the population with Soviet engraving. However, his relations with the Soviet art, and namely Soviet engraving, are insufficiently covered. The article talks about the forgotten achievements in the area of Soviet arts in China.

Abstract:In the last decade, research on Li Shangyin's poetry outside mainland China has notably shifted away from the traditional biographical interpretation method of "knowing the authors life and analyzing the work." A select few of these papers critically scrutinize the historical facts associated with Li Shangyin, unveiling fallacies in past biographical narratives and challenging the veracity of certain deeds. The majority of recent articles take a departure from the biographical approach, choosing instead to delve directly into the imagery, poetic artistic conception, and writing skills inherent in the text. These article provide in-depth analysis of the meaning and use of language, vocabulary and literary allusion. In some of them, emphasis is placed on the emotional and aesthetic value of Li Shangyin's poetry, with some scholars even regarding its "incomprehensibility" as an achievement rather than a shortcoming. In general, "what does the text of poetry express" has become an more and more important question.

Abstract:Culture is the cumulative deposit of knowledge, traditions, beliefs acquired by a human community in the course of generations: ethics is one of the most important of such beliefs. As for the intercultural communication, the discipline which studies a cultural dialogue about various issues across different communities, since the eighties of the last century it has been the object of various theories, based on experimental data collections: among them the ‘Values Orientation Theory’ by F.R. Kluckhohn and F. Strodtbeck, the ‘Cultural Dimensions Theory’ by G. Hofstede and the ‘Theory of Basic Values’ by S.H. Schwartz. One of the goals of this paper is to give a closer look at those theories. In the same period of time an ‘ethical turn’ manifested itself in western literary studies, after a long period of post-modernist disengagement, by initiative of J. Gardner, M. C. Nussbaum and J. Habermas, among others: the same happened in China in the eve of the new millennium, owing to the studies on comparative literature by Nie Zhenzhao. Literary works constitute an important vehicle of ethical intercultural communication. A second goal of the present paper is that of suggesting a ‘constructivist approach’ in the cultural dialogue between the western world and China, combining the results of those theoretical models with a comparative analysis of literary works chosen ad hoc, as recently done by Xu Zhilin in her comparative study of female images in ‘A leaf in the storm’, by Lin Yutang, and ‘Gone with the wind’, by Margareth Mitchell, from the perspective of Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension Theory.

Abstract:For the last thirty years, Chinese poetry mostly has been well-known for three schools, namely: “Misty Poetry”, “Intellectual Writing”, and “Folk Writing”. Russian poets of diff erent periods were among those who had a notable impact on the works of Chinese poets. Russian lyric poets praising freedom, love, and relationships with nature became the main source of inspiration for “misty” poets. “Intellectual” poets felt their being close to the Russian Silver Age poets: A. Akhmatova, A. Blok, B. Pasternak, M. Tsvetaeva. Their poems include examples of direct addressing to them. “Folk” poets created an enormous and diverse area of postmodernist poetic texts, which is in sync with Russian poets of postmodernism. In the fi rst part of the article, the authors review the contemporary Russian poetry, in particular the “second avant-garde” poetry, in relation with the contemporary Chinese poetry that was “moved in time” for some decades, but came across the same processes of rising and the dialogue with society (sometimes provocative), with the world poetry, processes of introspection and experimental search. The second part of the article deals with the aspects of infl uence, made by Russian poets of different periods upon Chinese poetry, and with the issues of further development of contemporary Chinese poetry.
Gloomy China: China'S Image in Han Song'S Science Fiction

Abstract:This paper focuses on the work of Han Song, an important contemporary Chinese sf writer. His dark and difficult stories brim with violence and bloodshed and frequently leave readers puzzled as to his intentions, yet many critics have defended the value of his work. My analysis focuses on the reasons for the persistence of such dark images of China in his writing. Han Song's work exceeds Lu Xun's critique of national character and makes him an inheritor of the enlightenment spirit of the May 4th Movement (1915-1921). At the same time, the impact of Buddhism imbues his work with a nihilism that inevitably dilutes the power of his critique. Paradoxical feelings of detachment from and attachment to reality find voice in his sf writing, which ought to be viewed as the practice of dharma as well as a critique of reality. In other words, his "Gloomy China" should be seen not only as a national allegory in Fredric Jameson's sense of the term, but also as a universal exploration of the meaning of existence.

Abstract:This paper performs a critical reading of the counter-intuitive inclusion of Zhang Zhaohe, a minor writer best known as the wife of the great novelist Shen Congwen, in Modern Chinese Stories, an English anthology compiled by Indian diplomat K.M. Panikkar. Proposing the concept of "subterranean translation, this paper shows how the explicit translation of Zhang's story functioned as an implicit inclusion of Shen, when he was denied legitimacy by the state's literary authorities due to his non-compliance. Shen was present in the anthology not through direct translation of his works, but through a strong intertextuality between his real-life predicament and the protagonist's dilemma in Zhang's story.

Abstract:Abstract Examining how contemporary poets raised in China are looking at classical Chinese poetry from the Tang—in particular, the poetry and the figure of Li Bai 李白 (701–762)—this article questions the epistemological divide, common to scholarship, between premodern and modern Chinese poetry. The texts come from Shenqing shi 深情史 (Histories of Affection) by Liu Liduo 劉麗朵 (1979–); The Banished Immortal, Chinese-American poet and novelist Ha Jin's 哈金 (1956–) biography of Li Bai; the book-length poem-sequence Tang 唐, by Yi Sha 伊沙 (1966–); and poet Xi Chuan's 西川 (1963–) scholarly book Tang shi de dufa 唐詩的讀法 (Reading Tang Poetry). The author contends not only that these writers' dealings with Tang poetry make it part of a still-living tradition but also that such engagement offers a way to understand the dynamic, rather than static, canonicity of Tang poetry.

Abstract:With the promotion of standard Chinese in China, dialects are becoming less and less important or even extinct. However, in Shanghai where the economy is developing very fast, the relationship between the dialect and standard Chinese in the field of literature seems returned to the original state at the beginning of modern Chinese literature. With the development of contemporary and modern Chinese literature as a context and Shanghai writers as an example, this paper will analyze the great influence of standard Chinese and dialects on contemporary and modern Chinese literature, the different manifestation between Northern and Southern areas, and the complicated reasons of this phenomenon.

Abstract:The works by Chinese Hong Kong writer Jin Yong (1924-2018) fare in the focus of Chinese readers’ attention as the exemplified wu-xia literature. His novels only recently became the object of literary studies within China, and are seen as an alternative to the literary discourse founded by the May Fourth Movement. The article is focused on the transcultural qualities of his prose. Though the imagery and background in his works are distinctly ancient Chinese, embodying the genre principle ancient clothing“’, a lot of techniques, including plot development, characters’ traits are highly reminiscent of Western literature, namely the works by A. Dumas and Shakespearean drama. The Chinese component in the work by Jin Yong is defined as threefold. The first and the most easily noticed is the language, drastically different from China mainland official Putonghua or Mandarin, seen as a complicated sometimes to eccentricity mixture of baihua and wenyan, the lively bright and colorful idiom literally breathing the Chinese tradition. The second component is defined by the titular wu-xia genre. The necessary core of Jin Yong’s novels imagery is the ethics and aesthetics of Chinese legendary “river and lake” chivalric society, with its strong and straightforward sense of justice, martial arts, romance, mysticism and complicated political intrigues. The third component is represented by the vast dialogue with the Chinese canon, from the ancient chronicles to the pre-modern novels such as “The Dream of the Red Chamber’’. It can take the form of creative rethinking and character modernization, almost always with distinct irony.

Abstract:The paper takes 1391 articles included in SSCI and A&HCI databases in the field of humanities and social science in Shaanxi province as research object, analyzes them from angles of annual article amount, high-yielding authors, regions and institu-tions, source journals. Abstract:Chi Zijian ' s literary narrative of northeast China over a century essentially embodies a serious and concrete historical record of the Chinese nation. It also makes efforts to explore the profoundness and vitality of history, the presence of northeast China, and the culture and spiritual philosophy of the region. Undoubtedly, such narrative is self-perpetuating, just as is the historical process of northeast China. Puppet Manchukuo (Wei Manzhouguo), The Last Quarter of the Moon (E ' erguna He You ' an), and White Snow and Crow (Baixue Wuya) written by Chi Zijian are all important contemporary literary works worth '' rereading '' time and again.

Abstract:The project’s goal was to cover as comprehensively as possible the reception of the Russian Soviet novelists in the countries, the national languages of which, being the means of international communication, helped spread the literary masterpieces created by Boris Pasternak and Mikhail Sholokhov worldwide. The translations of the novels And Quiet Flows the Don, Virgin Soil Upturned, Doctor Zhivago in the 1930s–1950s proved to be an important ideological and aesthetic factor influencing the global historical and ideological processes. For the first time, the authors studied journals and newspapers that published critical reviews of the works by the Nobel-winning authors. The introduction of Mikhail Sholokhov’s work to Western readers began as early as the 1930s, far ahead of the introduction of Boris Pasternak, whose name was practically unknown to foreign readers before the publication of his translated novel. The antagonism of Sholokhov to Pasternak, provoked by big politics, failed to muffle those voices, which emphasized the unity of the Russian novel tradition and the equality of Soviet nominees throughout its history.
