Abstract:Life is short; how to make our life rich and more meaningful？ Life is changeable; from cradle to grave, natural evolution alternate with uncertain personnel changes, so, how can we maintain a healthy and positive attitude towards the unpredictable life？ Su Shi taught us a lesson. He went through both the imperial ups-and- downs and the vicissitudes of life but still kept a positive attitude. This paper expounds Su Shi＇s life attitude from five aspects, namely, his moral values, which is based on temperament; his epistemology, which attach great importance to the practice; his happy life attitude; amiable personality and his spiritual home. It is in hope to point out that su shi provide people with enlightenment and help them appreciate the aesthetic feeling and poetic flavour in life.
On the Qu Yuan Complex of Those Poets in the Mid-Tang Dynasty Relegated to Southern China

Abstract:Those poets relegated to southern China in the Mid-Tang Dynasty all showed a Qu Yuan complex in their poems.For example,under the influence of Qu Yuan's poems,such as LI SAO and JIU GE,Liu Yuxi and Liu Zongyuan expressed primarily a spirit of complaint and fury while the more rational Yuan Zhen and Bai Juyi both accepted Qu Yuan's character of loyalty and uprightness but refused to follow his will of consistence.In contrast,Han Yu and Li Shen expressed their complaint about innocent mistreatment by comparing their experience to Qu Yuan's miserable treatment.The Qu Yuan complex of the poets relegated in the Early and Prosperous Tang Dynasty was the very source of that of the relegated poets in the Mid-Tang Dynasty.In general,the former was rational while the latter was sentimental but more tragic than the former.

Abstract:My recent reading of Su Shi reveals that Su is a master in creating and using magic and alienation stories. Magic and alienation constitute a significant element of Su Shi's literary works and methods of literary creation. Recognizing it will help understand the overall trend of literature of the Song Dynasty, such as popularization of literary themes and substitution of prose for poetry. Magic and alienation exist in Sus literary works of different stages and different genres, endowing the works with a unique sense of beauty and flavor.

Abstract:As a man of letters, Su Shi’s poetic art spirit energized the Song paintings. As for painting, Su Shi advocated the idea of “unconscious of the boundary between oneself and the external world”, “unity of poetry and painting”, and “perfection of form and spirit” in creation and aesthetics. That is to say, he pursued not only the Naturalness but also humanistic and poetic connotations. His art spirit contributed to the formation of the concept of “literati painting”. Through exchanges with other artists, Su Shi’s poetic spirit spread both inside and outside the imperial court, shaping the overall style of the Song paintings by osmosis.

Abstract:As a rare master in the literary history,Su Shi has always been studied by many scholars. However,their studies have often been focused on the aspects of poetry and prose,and his inscriptions have received little attention. This paper explores Su Shi’s inscriptions from three aspects, including complex relationship between his inscriptions and other styles like notes and postscripts;the literariness of Su Shi’s inscriptions on imagination,language and allusions;the thoughts of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism and the clear life realm in Su Shi’s inscriptions. There are bright features in those aspects of Su’s inscriptions, which finally make his inscriptions achieve high levels of literariness and ideology. And all of these have a lot to do with Su Shi’s unique creative ideas and life experiences.

Abstract:Life is often an occasion of human creative materials. Su Shi’s words (Ci) written byusing poetry have its process. This process has the close relationship with Su Shi’s lifeand environment. Since Su Shi enter the capital to take imperial examination and duringhe as a government official, his responsibility for supplying the military’s equipments andmaterials is very important, he don’t has the environment and time to practice his words.Until he becomes the local magistrate in Hangzhou, the situation has changed. DuringHangzhou period, he was influenced by Zhang Xian and others senior. He put personalexperience in daily life, emotions, ideals, and the history of ancient in his written of words;to express lonely and no sustenance; upgrade the level of philosophy and make the words(Ci) wisely and vigorous. This is reflected in the creation of Su Shi after he relegated toHuangzhou. Therefore, this paper argues that Su Shu’s written from words (Ci) to poetrybegan in his Hangzhou period; While he become governor of Mizhou and Xuzhou period,his written from words (Ci) to poetry is getting maturity and peak during his living inHuangzhou. Abstract:Abstract A complex triangular relationship of ideas, naturalness, and emotion is distinctly evident in the artistic practice and theory of Su Shi 蘇軾 (1037–1101), the leading figure exploring ways to expand the expressive capabilities of the graphic arts in the late Northern Song. This article traces the evolution of Su's practice, focusing first on the close relationship with a cousin, the bamboo painter Wen Tong 文同 (1018–79). Examination of communication between the two men sets a historical framework through the decade of the 1070s leading to Su's first exile at Huangzhou. This is followed by analyses of key works of calligraphy related to Su's efforts to give visual form to a discourse on emotions that ironically includes a vocal declaration of the absence of emotions as a philosophical ideal. A final section draws attention to Su's one known painting, Old Tree, Rock, and Bamboo, and ties it to what can be learned from Su's poetic and calligraphic practice.

Abstract:The first decade of 1900s was the decade when great changes had taken place in Chinese traditional education.The abolition of the imperial examination system,the issue and implementation of modern school system and the establishment of a large number of new-style schools had greatly shocked the souls of millions of scholars who studied earnestly day and night under the old educational system and had a lot to do with their future and destinies.As a traditional scholar benefiting from imperial examination system,facing great educational changes in the early 1900s,the cognition and activities of Yun Yuding,on the one hand,were greatly influenced by his growth and traditional culture.He felt distressful,grieved and enraged at the collapse of mainstream value system of the feudal society;on the other hand,the consideration of the interests of his family and himself impelled him to get involved into the changes consciously and unconsciously.All the conflicts and paradoxes shown in his lectures and activities were actually a miniature of the complexities of the Chinese intellectuals in the early 1900s and reflected a cultural predicament confronting the intellectuals in times of critical transformation.

Abstract:Su Zhe reposed in the prefecture Yingchang (颍昌府) for twelve years in his old age, and composed more than 370 poetry, which formed the most important part of poetic history in the late Northern Song dynasty dominated by Emperor Huizong (徽宗朝), and opened a subtle poetic world of “rationalism” for Song poetry.Their characteristics were popularization and familiarization with the description of daily life and the records of annals, dates, political affairs and even weather included in his poetical works. As to their artistic origin, apart from imitating the style of Bai Gong(白公), the influence of Tao Yuanming (陶渊明), Liu Yuxi (刘禹锡) and someone others could be seen in them, but their roots lay in Annals of Spring and Autumn and Grief in Leaving the Homeland.
