Abstract:C-F/SiC laminated ceramic composites were prepared through rolling, stacking alternately 2D-carbon fiber cloth and SiC green layer, burning out of organic components and hot pressing. Sintering process parameters for fabricating C-F/SiC laminated ceramic composites were investigated. The effects of sintering process parameters and sintering additives on the microstructure and fracture behavior of the laminated ceramics were analyzed. In addition, toughening mechanism for the laminated composites was discussed. The results indicate that, the laminated ceramics C-F/SiC could be densified and possesses optimal mechanical properties, when sintered at 1900 degrees C/1.5 h with Al2O3, Y2O3 and Si sintering additives. The primary toughening mechanism for C-F/SiC laminated ceramics could be mainly attributed to several crack deflection at the carbon fiber layer, fracture and pull out of carbon fiber bundles and carbon fiber within the carbon fiber layers.
