Abstract:The nucleophilic addition reaction of diazo-compound derived anions or enolates with electrophilic C=O and C=N bonds have been summarized. The subsequent reactions of the addition products demonstrate diverse reactivities of the diazocarbonyl compounds bearing other functional groups and their potential in organic synthesis. Asymmetric catalysis is also possible with diazocarbonyl compounds as nucleophiles.

Abstract:Diazo compounds had been widely employed as a class of environment friendly and highly efficient coupling reagents in transition-metal-catalyzed C-H bonds insertion reactions.Recently, C-H alkylation of various arenes and heteroarenes has been achieved enormous successes using diazo compounds as the alkylation reagents under a new catalytic model.The recent progress in diazo compounds mediated transition-metal-catalyzed C-H alkylation and tandem C-H alkylation/cyclization is reviewed, including reaction mechanism and synthetic applications.Furthermore, the prospects of this reaction are also discussed.

Abstract:This review summarizes previous mechanistic studies on reactions of dihalocarbenes with carbonyl compounds where dihalocarbonyl Ylide was suggested to be the intermediate. The structural factors such as steric effects of substrates, electronic effects of substituents, Captodative effect of the carbonyl Ylide intermediate, and radius of the halogen atoms that influence the stabilities and conformations of the dihalocarbonyl Ylides and their following reaction pathways are also discussed.

Abstract:α-Diazo carbonyl compounds can be decomposed under various conditions and results in diverse types of chemical transformations. For this reason, their application in organic synthesis have attracted considerable attention. In order to gain deep insight into the mechanism of the synthetically well established Rh(II)-mediated intramolecular C-H insertion reaction, the classic physical organic chemistry method, the Hammett linear free energy correlation, has been applied. In the development of new synthetic methodologies of α-diazo carbonyl compounds, it was found that Cu(acac)2 can effectively promote the diazo decomposition and resulted in selective intramolecular N-H insertion. On the other hand, the Wolff rearrangement of the α-diazo carbonyl compounds catalyzed by Ag (I) has been applied to the efficient synthesis of optically pure γ-lactams.

Abstract:Copper-catalyzed reaction of diazo compounds generates copper carbene intermediates that undergo diverse transformations. In recent years, the selectivity and efficiency of these important conversions have been further improved. In particular, breakthroughs have been made in catalytic asymmetric polar X-H bond insertion reactions. Moreover, novel transformations based on copper carbene, namely copper-catalyzed cross-couplings of diazo compounds, have emerged as powerful methods for carbon-carbon bond formations. This feature article summarizes the most recent developments in this area.

Abstract:Aryl diazonium salts are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis. In light of the ever-increasing importance of aryl diazonium salts spanning most disciplines of the chemical sciences, we review the recent development of aryl diazonium chemistry over the past seven years (2013-2020). Special emphasis is put on various new transformations involving the generation of radical intermediates via thermal, photochemical, and electrochemical means. Recent advances in the development of transition metal-catalyzed reactions using aryl diazonium salts are also reviewed. Together, these newly developed transformations significantly expand the synthetic chemist's repertoire of aromatic carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond forming methods using aryl diazonium precursors, providing powerful tools for the synthesis and modification of complex molecular scaffolds.

Abstract:Carbonylation, the direct incorporation of carbonyl functionality into organic molecules, is one of the frontiers of green chemistry and one of the important transformation pathways of utilization of C-1 resources. The recent research progress of oxidation carbonylation of amines/beta-amino alcohols, alkoxycarbonylation of epoxides, carbonylative Suzuki coupling, carbonylative Sonogashira, and double carbonylation of aryl iodides has been presented, focusing on the carbonylation reactions studied by us in the past few years, with 81 references. The development and application prospects for carbonylation have been also discussed.

Abstract:Pd-catalyzed reactions of diazo compounds result in unique transformations that are distinct from those of traditional processes catalyzed by Rh-II or Cu-I catalysts. Pd carbene migratory insertion was deemed to be the key step in a series of Pd-catalyzed reactions of diazo compounds. The combination of this unique reaction and classic Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling provides new potential for the development of novel Pd-catalyzed transformations, in particular for C=C double bond formation.

Abstract:Fluorinated organic compounds represent an important and growing family of active ingredients in various fields, including material science, pharmaceutical chemistry and biological science. Developing efficient synthetic methods toward fluorinated organic compounds have attracted much attention. In recent years, transition‐metal catalyzed reaction of trifluoro diazo compounds involving trifluoro diazo compounds and their surrogates were a powerful and convenient approach to afford trifluoromethyl‐ and difluoromethyl‐substituted compounds of value. In this review, the recent progress in this area is described in the sequence of 2,2,2‐trifluorodiazoethane as carbene precursor, ethyl 3‐trifluoro‐2‐diazo‐propionate as carbene precursor, trifluoroethyl amines/amine hydrochloride as the CF3CHN2 surrogate as well as trifluoro aldehydes/ketones N‐sulfonylhydrazones as the trifluoro diazo compounds surrogate.
