Abstract:Reading comprehension is a very complicated mental process. During this process, readers understand the contents of reading materials following bottom-up and top-down process and the interactive information processing model between them. Therefore, schema theory regards reading process as an interactive process between the background information that readers have and the reading materials. The principal factors that influence reading comprehension are content schemata and formal schemata. The study of schema theory is of great help to disclose cognitive mental process in reading comprehension.

Abstract:The Schema Theory is in the main applied to reading comprehension. Actually it can be applied to the interpretation and translation of texts. The present paper employs the features of schema and the role in reading comprehension it plays to make a further study of the function of schematic knowledge in the interpretation and translation of texts. The practice has shown that a translator who possesses more related schemas or background knowledge will have a better understanding of texts concerned and his translated texts will be more acceptable.

Abstract:The sentence schema given in this paper provides an approach to analysis of language based on Frege. It shows that the language is different from what it expresses. A sentence is a basic unit of linguistic expressions and what it corresponds to is thought on the one hand and truthvalue on the other. A sentence is a whole with component parts, so that as the reference of a sentence the true value relies on the references of its components. A sentence has a sense, that is,what it usually expresses. This level, though different from that of reference, is also helpful for determine the truth-value of a sentence, especially when involved in intensional contexts. Taking the discussion of proper names among Frege, Kripke and others as an example, the author shows how the sentence schema help to understand their ideas, to analyse their differences, and to point out the reasons of their debates.

Abstract:English reading is a basic language skill, and the level of English reading comprehension is directly related to the level of learners’ language ability. In recent years, the new curriculum standards and the new college entrance examination reform have put forward higher requirements for high school students’ English reading comprehension ability. However, English teachers pay much more attention to vocabulary, sentence patterns and grammar knowledge, and to some extent neglect the cultivation of the cultural knowledge, genre structure and reading strategies at present. English reading teaching based on schema theory emphasizes linguistic knowledge as the basis, activating the existing schema, enriching the background knowledge and grasping the discourse structure, so as to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the text. Therefore, this paper combines schema theory with English reading teaching, and analyzes how to effectively use schema theory to help students effectively read and improve their reading ability from three stages: before reading, while reading and after reading.

Abstract:This paper reviews the research on diagrammatic Chinese syntactic analysis and its Treebank construction which use Sentence Component Analysis (SCA) as the main ideas, puts forward a new formal schema of diagrammatic Chinese syntactic analysis based on sentence pattern structure, including diagrammatic style and its XML structure. Syntactic schemes are drawn on the sentence pattern system according to the sequence of "basic sentence pattern, extend sentence pattern, complex sentence pattern and special sentence pattern", while lexical schemes are drawn on the Diagrammatic Unit which covers idioms/proper nouns, syntactic words and morphology.

Abstract:Vocabulary is one of the three basic elements of a language. However, in many senior high schools, in the actual practice of senior high school English teaching, vocabulary teaching is not fully valued as it should be. Not only are teachers’ teaching methods simple and single, but also students are still given priority to memorize vocabulary by rote. The schema theory combines the known knowledge structure in people's brain with the new knowledge system to complete knowledge input. Abstract:With the help of Schema Theory,the author summarizes and analyses the existing main problems in present college English writing teaching on the basis of questionnaires.To solve such obstacles as scattered writing skills in the textbook,students' passive writing attitude and exam-oriented learning purpose,the author introduces some measures adopted by his teaching group—transforming the classroom instruction methods of Reading-Writing course,to focus on passage analysis,stressing on comprehensive input of structural schemas and content schemas etc..The experimental teaching is divided into 3 different periods,marked by the applicable writing,co-operative group writing practice and intensively lecturing on writing skills,basic knowledge.The author analyses the 318 students' writing points in two term exams and College English Test Band 4 in December 2009,the data from experimental classes is more satisfactory than that from the controlled ones,which shows that the application of Schema Theory can improve the students' writing competence.

The author argues that the measurable distance between the core of the topic schema and an activated component within can well contribute to an assessment of discoursal continuity and inferential quantity, though the difference between the serial schema and the hierarchical schema should not be neglected.
