Abstract:In this paper, we construct and classify a new family of flips, called generalized Grassmannian flips, by generalizing the construction of standard flips for $\mathbb{P}^m\times \mathbb{P}^n$ to any generalized Grassmannian $G/P$, where $P$ is a maximal parabolic subgroup of a complex semi-simple algebraic group. In addition, we show that a 9-fold generalized Grassmannian flip for $Sp(6, \mathbb{C})$ satisfies the DK flip conjecture by Bondal-Orlov and Kawamata via mutation techniques by Kuznetsov and Thomas' chess game method.

Abstract:We prove that any sequence of 4-dimensional log flips that begins with a klt pair (X,D) such that -(K+D) is numerically equivalent to an effective divisor, terminates. This implies termination of flips that begin with a log Fano pair and termination of flips in a relative birational setting. We also prove termination of directed flips with big K+D. As a consequence, we prove existence of minimal models of 4-dimensional dlt pairs of general type, existence of 5-dimensional log flips, and rationality of Kodaira energy in dimension 4.

Abstract:Minimal log discrepancies (mld's) are related not only to termination of log flips, and thus to the existence of log flips but also to the ascending chain condition (acc) of some global invariants and invariants of singularities in the Log Minimal Model Program (LMMP). In this paper, we draw clear links between several central conjectures in the LMMP. More precisely, our main result states that the LMMP, the acc conjecture for mld's and the boundedness of canonical Mori-Fano varieties in dimension $\le d$ imply the following: the acc conjecture for $a$-lc thresholds, in particular, for canonical and log canonical (lc) thresholds in dimension $\le d$; the acc conjecture for lc thresholds in dimension $\le d+1$; termination of log flips in dimension $\le d+1$ for effective pairs; and existence of pl flips in dimension $\le d+2$. This also gives new proofs of some well-known and new results in the field in low dimensions: the acc conjecture holds for $a$-lc thresholds of surfaces; the acc conjecture holds for lc thresholds of 3-folds; termination of 3-fold log flips holds for effective pairs; and the existence of 4-fold pl flips holds.

Abstract:Let (X/Z,B+A) be a Q-factorial dlt pair where B,A≥0 are Q-divisors and K X +B+A∼ Q 0/Z. We prove that any LMMP/Z on K X +B with scaling of an ample/Z divisor terminates with a good log minimal model or a Mori fibre space. We show that a more general statement follows from the ACC for lc thresholds. An immediate corollary of these results is that log flips exist for log canonical pairs.

Abstract:For a log Calabi Yau pair (X,D) with X\D smooth affine, satisfying either assumption 1.1 of "The canonical wall structure and intrinsic mirror symmetry" or contains a Zariski dense torus, we prove under the condition that D is the support of a nef divisor, that the structure constants defining a trace form on the mirror algebra constructed by Gross-Siebert are given by the naive curve counts defined by Keel-Yu in definition 1.1 of "The Frobenius structure theorem for log Calabi-Yau varieties containing a torus". As a corollary, we deduce the equality of the mirror algebras constructed by Gross-Siebert and Keel-Yu in the case X\D contains a Zariski dense torus. In addition, we use this result to prove a mirror conjecture proposed by Mandel in "Fano mirror periods from the Frobenius structure conjecture" for Fano pairs satisfying assumption 1.1.

Abstract:Abstract Flip graphs are a ubiquitous class of graphs, which encode relations on a set of combinatorial objects by elementary, local changes. Skeletons of associahedra, for instance, are the graphs induced by quadrilateral flips in triangulations of a convex polygon. For some definition of a flip graph, a natural computational problem to consider is the flip distance: Given two objects, what is the minimum number of flips needed to transform one into the other? We consider flip graphs on orientations of simple graphs, where flips consist of reversing the direction of some edges. More precisely, we consider so-called $$\alpha$$ α -orientations of a graph G , in which every vertex v has a specified outdegree $$\alpha (v)$$ α ( v ) , and a flip consists of reversing all edges of a directed cycle. We prove that deciding whether the flip distance between two $$\alpha$$ α -orientations of a planar graph G is at most two is -complete. This also holds in the special case of perfect matchings, where flips involve alternating cycles. This problem amounts to finding geodesics on the common base polytope of two partition matroids, or, alternatively, on an alcoved polytope. It therefore provides an interesting example of a flip distance question that is computationally intractable despite having a natural interpretation as a geodesic on a nicely structured combinatorial polytope. We also consider the dual question of the flip distance between graph orientations in which every cycle has a specified number of forward edges, and a flip is the reversal of all edges in a minimal directed cut. In general, the problem remains hard. However, if we restrict to flips that only change sinks into sources, or vice-versa, then the problem can be solved in polynomial time. Here we exploit the fact that the flip graph is the cover graph of a distributive lattice. This generalizes a recent result from Zhang et al. (Acta Math Sin Engl Ser 35(4):569–576, 2019).

Abstract: We study how Gromov-Witten invariants of projective 3-folds transform under a standard flop and a small extremal transition in the algebro-geometric setting from the recent development of algebraic relative Gromov-Witten theory and its applications. This gives an algebro-geometric account of Witten's wall-crossing formula for correlation functions of the descendant nonlinear sigma model in adjacent geometric phases of a gauge linear sigma model and of the symplectic approach in an earlier work of An-Min Li and Yongbin Ruan on the same problem. A terse account from the stringy and the symplectic viewpoint is given in the appendix to complement and compare to the discussion in the main text.

Abstract:We shall investigate a flipping contraction g : X -> Y from a 4-fold X with at most isolated complete intersection singularities. If Y has an anti-bi-canonical divisor (=bi-elephant) with only rational singularities, then g carries an inductive structure chained up by blow-ups (La Torre Pendente), and in particular the flip exists. This naturally contains Miles Reid's `Pagoda' as an anti-canonical divisor (=elephant) and its proper transforms.

Abstract:We study various analogues of theorems from PL topology for cubical complexes. In particular, we characterize when two PL homeomorphic cubulations are equivalent by Pachner moves by showing the question to be equivalent to the existence of cobordisms between generic immersions of hypersurfaces. Abstract:Quantum graphs have become in this century a favorite playground for mathematicians, mathematical physicists, and chemists, due to their manifold applications as models of thin structures, as well as presenting sometimes simpler playground for hard higher dimensional problems. It was clear from some applications that thin surface structures (looking as stratified varieties) also arise, for instance in photonic crystals theory and dynamical systems. However, both justification and studying of these models is much harder and very little progress has been made by now. The goal of this note is to set down some basic notions and results for such structures. The name ``open book'' has been used for such geometric structures in topology and comes from an image of several smooth $n$-dimensional ``pages'' bound to an $(n-1)$- dimensional ``binding.''

Flops for Complete Intersection Calabi-Yau Threefolds

Abstract:We study flops of Calabi-Yau threefolds realised as Kaehler-favourable complete intersections in products of projective spaces (CICYs) and identify two different types. The existence and the type of the flops can be recognised from the configuration matrix of the CICY, which also allows for constructing such examples. The first type corresponds to rows containing only 1s and 0s, while the second type corresponds to rows containing a single entry of 2, followed by 1s and 0s. We give explicit descriptions for the manifolds obtained after the flop and show that the second type of flop always leads to isomorphic manifolds, while the first type in general leads to non-isomorphic flops. The singular manifolds involved in the flops are determinantal varieties in the first case and more complicated in the second case. We also discuss manifolds admitting an infinite chain of flops and show how to identify these from the configuration matrix. Finally, we point out how to construct the divisor images and Picard group isomorphisms under both types of flops.
