Abstract:For a commercial Si(3)N(4) powder, the effects of surface modification and amount of sintering additives on rheological property of aqueous slurry were studied in this paper. High concentrated (greater than or equal to50vol%) suspension can not be prepared directly due to large amount of soluble high-valence counter-ions in the as-received Si(3)N(4) sample. Through acid-leaching and heat treatment, which eliminate the soluble counter-ions and form a silica-like layer on the particle surface, the solid loading of treated Si(3)N(4) slurry (with 5wt%Al(2)O(3)+5wt%Y(2)O(3)) has reached 50vol% with TMAH or NH(4)PA as dispersant. From DRIFT spectra, isolated Si-OH group was not detected and the amount of amine structures (Si(2)NH and SiNH(2)) was small on the original particle surface. The DRIFT pattern of acid-cleaned powder was similar to the as-received sample. However, the spectra of heated sample was considerably different from that of the as-received and acid-cleaned ones, amine structures disappeared completely and isolated Si-OH group was not induced by heat treatment. The effect of amount of oxide additives on rheological property Of Si(3)N(4) suspension was also studied in this paper. For dispersant of NH(4)PA, viscosity of 45vol% slurry was various with amount of additives and reached the lowest point at 10wt% additives. It is the influence of increasing amount of RCOO(-) adsorbed on particle surface that was substituted gradually by that of increasing concentration of Y(3+).
